Changing Value Of Multiple Elements With Same Name At Once?
Jul 20, 2005
I am doing a form for my site and would like to enable and disable a radio
button set depending on whether one of the choices on an outer radio button
set is checked. How can I refer to all the inputs of the inner radio button
set (they all share a common name) with javascript. I tried
document.getElementsByNames('thename') but it doesn't work. I know this is
because this method returns an array which you must then refer to by a
specific index number, unless there is another way. I would like to refer to
all of them at once and then set their disabled status to false.

I am using jquery with the cookie plugin and I have multiple image buttons that can hide/show multiple elements. My question is how can I add a cookie to this code to remember whether each separate element is opened or closed?
The code,
$(document).ready(function() {
// choose text for the show/hide link - can contain HTML (e.g. an image)
var showText='<div class="expanddown"></div>';
var hideText='<div class="expandup"></div>';
// initialise the visibility check
var is_visible = false;
// append show/hide links to the element directly preceding the element with a class of "toggle"
$('.toggle').prev().append('<a href="#" class="togglelink">'+hideText+'</a>');
// capture clicks on the toggle links
$('a.togglelink').click(function() {
// switch visibility
is_visible = !is_visible;
// change the link depending on whether the element is shown or hidden
$(this).html( (!is_visible) ? hideText : showText);
// toggle the display - uncomment the next line for a basic "accordion" style
//$('.toggle').hide();$('a.toggleLink').html(showText);
$(this).parent().next('.toggle').slideToggle('fast');
// return false so any link destination is not followed
return false;
});
});
HTML,
<a class="togglelink" href="#"></a>
<div class="toggle">

What website do any of you recommend for learning Javascript browser compatibility? I'd like to learn more about acceptable javascript programming.
I am using the script below for changing elements content without refreshing my page. Typically it works fine on recent Mozilla and IE releases if they haven't had too many hijacked settings. I know this isn't really much of an excuse for a script not to execute if it is done properly so I am hoping someone here can help me make what I have more compatible with more settings and browsers.

in a list, as seen below, i would like to first of all change the order only by clicking a button.e.g. li_elem2 and li_elem3 should change their order (positions), maybe even in a nice animated way later on...i tried to change it by editing the css properties, but didn't work out. so now i would be happy about any other approach i can take to swap items, or change positions of two list items....
<ul class="rounded">
<li class="li_elem1">Liste 1</li>
<li class="li_elem2">Liste 2</li>

Today my boss asked me to prepare him a function that would change table cell's background when a link inside this cell is clicked, and all others cells to default background.
To achieve this I used:
Code:
function zmieniamy(idkomorki)
{
/* change all td's background white */
TD = document.getElementsByTagName('td');
for(i=0;i<TD.length;i++)
if(TD[i].name=='zmieniaj')
TD[i].style.background='white'
/* change the color that we want */
document.getElementById(idkomorki).style.background="pink";
}
Now that works only in IE and in Mozilla once I click a link inside a cell, then some other link - the first cell keeps its pink background.

I'm putting together an events calendar athttp:[URL].. Each event is a li item, and I use jQuery to assign the class "no-left-m" (no left margin) to li:nth-child(3n+1) for CSS layout purposes. I've also added the ability to show only events in certain categories. Unfortunately, the initial jQuery assigns the classes to li items from the DOM, and doesn't take into account the show/hide. This means that when I show only a single category, the margins are off.
[Code]...
how I can assign my classes dynamically to nth-child(3n+1) of *visible* items only?

I have a dynamically generated table, filled from a database by a perl
application.
Each row represents a database record and has a 'status' and a unique 'id'.
What I want to do is create buttons to hide all rows with a particular
status. The code to show/hide is relatively easy, but how do I turn them
all off at once?
Several ideas I had:
1. Set the tr's 'id' attribute to the status (eg 'open') and then set that
id to display: none. But that only turns off the first one.
2. Do the same but somehow loop over all elements looking for that id.
3. Set the tr's 'id' attribute to the status plus the data's id (eg
'open.24') then loop over all elements matching the status with a regexp.
4. Doing something else that I haven't thought of yet.
Anyone have any advice and example code?

I am working on a customised scoresheet for a Bible Quiz group. Basically, I want to click on a box and have a box come up with options for correct and incorrect. I just want it to affect the score for that one box. However, if you click another box, it changes all of the boxes.[URL]..Click the 10, 20, or 30 in the top left corner. It should update the points under the 4. Click on any of the boxes assigned to a person on the grey line. A box should come up with a Cor (Correct) or Incor link. Click on either option. Then click on another grey box and do the same thing. I don't want all of the points to change when one person's score changes. Does that make sense?

Im trying to design a website at the moment...
and i dont know the first thing about javascript...
Basically what i want to do is have 6 images change randomly on load of the webpage...
Basically i have:
- 1 main image
- 1 logo
- 4 buttons
Now these buttons all have a certain colour in them...
Each one is different... (green, blue, orange, purple)
So when someone loads the webpage i need all the images to change randomly...
BUT, here comes the hard part for me...
I need the images to all change together...
So i dont have a green button, a red logo, a blue main image...
As they are randomly changing on load of the page, i need them to all change together... so there are 6 RED images...
Next time they load, there are 6 green images...
Its essential that colours are not mixed...

I have a nice little script that changes a company's logo (displayed in a side bar) when the user mouses over a part of an image map.
Here is the basic code:
My question is, how can I get three different images (company logo, weekly price chart and monthly price chart - all of which are in an image folder on my server) to change on this one mouseover event. I tried replicating the function three times and altering each function's name but that ended up screwing the whole thing up.

I have two multiple select inputs. Initially the first contains a bunch of
items and the second is empty. Using a common method, I move items back and
forth by double clicking on them.
This portion works perfectly, but I would also like to change the background
color of the select element with the current focus. I have defined the following classes:
..selected {
background: #C0FFFF
}
..deselected {
background: #FFFFFF
}
Using the following function below I am able to shift the background color
of rows containing content, but the color of the empty rows remain the
"selected" color. How can this effect be achieved for all rows, whether they
contain content or not?

I'm not entirely familiar with jQuery coding, but I've given it my best shot to get this script working properly, and I can't seem to manage it. Here is my scenario: I'm creating a website for a friend who sells custom jewelery cuts. There are 4 different parameters you have to choose about your cut, and we would like to change the image displayed to match the parameters you select so you have a picture of what your going to purchase. The idea is like this:
I have managed to get it to update the image for a single select box, but then If I select another one it completely overrides the first one, and displays the second box. Here is what I have so far (and no it doesn't work :P):

I have a page with 2 product forms to add to shopping cart each form has the same fields.
when someone changes one of the dropdown boxes depending on the size it is to change the price to a certain value. This works ok whan you only have one form but now that there is two forms. When you change the second form dropdown box it changes the price on the first product.
OnChange='if (this.value<=16)ChangeHiddenPrice(90);'
I suspect it has to do with how i reference the form field
function ChangeHiddenPrice(newprice) {
document.getElementById('PRICE').value=newprice;
}

The short of it is that I am trying to change the background color of all elements with a particular class name. I know there is no getElementsByClassName (wouldn't it be nice if there were?), but is there a simple way to do it? Alternatively, is there a way to apply changes to multiple id's?

function toggleLayer( layerID ) {
var style2 = document.getElementById( layerID );
if (style2.style.display == "block") {
style2.style.display = "none";

However, when there are multiple tables it looks at _all_ the tr elements for the first/last rows. See example code:

$('table.corner-me').addClass('ui-corner-all').each(function(){

I have this query that does what I want it to do, find the class and remove an extra element within its parent:
$(".emptyTopNavOption").parent().children().first().remove();
But when there are multiple classes, it only deletes the first element in its query. As a successful test, I appended some CSS to ensure the query selected all classes and added a border to each element. So why does remove() not work? Is it a bug or is my query missing something?
