JQuery :: Assigning Classes To Visible Li Elements Only, And Changing Dynamically?
Apr 17, 2011
I'm putting together an events calendar athttp:[URL].. Each event is a li item, and I use jQuery to assign the class "no-left-m" (no left margin) to li:nth-child(3n+1) for CSS layout purposes. I've also added the ability to show only events in certain categories. Unfortunately, the initial jQuery assigns the classes to li items from the DOM, and doesn't take into account the show/hide. This means that when I show only a single category, the margins are off.
[Code]...
how I can assign my classes dynamically to nth-child(3n+1) of *visible* items only?

I'm trying to use a javascript class to assign specific event handlers to different elements. I create an object and pass it a reference to the element, and some properties for the event handler to use. When the event fires, I want the handler to reference the properties of the object. But I'm clearly doing something wrong as multiple instances all refer to the most recent object only.

The code below works great in Mozilla.
In IE the selection box is created, and there is a drop-down box if I click
on the down arrow, but I can't see the OPTION text for each option. The
options are invisible, yet the box seems fully functional. I went into the
debugger and sure enough the selection box has "OPTION" child nodes with the
correct "value" and "text" attributes.
What could be wrong?:

I'm validating a form using jQuery validation. or that I only add an specific class to the fields ("required","email",etc..). Ex: <input id="form_linom" class="required" type="text" value="" name="form_linom" size="50"> Since is a big and dynamic form (selections in some fields hide or show other fields) I have problems when submitting the form since validator doesn't permit send the data to the server because is validating also the hidden fields. The way I add the class to each field is making an array in PHP of all the required fields and then if the field is in that array the class is added. The only other thing that I put was this in the header:
[Code]...
I posted code in [URL].. look that the email field is hidden but prevent the form to be sent. I need a general rule that collect all the required fields that are hidden, not only the e-mail field as in the example (In my real form I have 54 fields).

In my page I have pairs of divs like this:
Code HTML4Strict:
<div class="rounded red">
<p>Integer egestas neque vitae dui ultricies vel venenatis mi varius! </p>
</div>
[code]....
This works,in that it at least added the new class whereas the other solutions didn't. Unfortunately it counts EVERY div, not just the ones with the class .client, I can't set my array of desired classes, and I have no idea how to make it restart the count after it hits #4.

I'm trying to create a list that contains items which are filters for a search. The list shows 10 items (max) on the page load. if there are more than 10 it changes the class of the elements > 10 so they are hidden, and a 'show more' link is appended. Now if the user has 'unhidden' the previously hidden items and then chooses one, I want the class for all those previously hidden items to change until the user has deselected that item.
[Code]...
Is there a better, smaller way to write this? It works for what i need currently, but there are future features im planning that will not be practical checkingindividualindexes the way i've done it.

The default behaviour for a class selector is: "An element can have multiple classes; only one of them must match." Is there a class selector where you can use multiple classes and all of them have to match?

I've got a list of links and divs. When I click on a link I want to keep showing all the divs which have a class that matches the clicked link id and hide all the divs which don't. At the same time I want to add another class (.item) to the matching divs and remove it from any div which is hidden.
When I run the code below, clicking any of the links hides all the divs apart from the one which doesn't have a matching colour class.
$('a.filterclick').click(function(){
var id = $(this).attr('id');
if($('.filterclass').hasClass(id)) {$('.filterclass').removeClass('filteredout').addClass('item');
}else

I have a function whose parameter is a reference the element that called it:
function someFunction(el)
{
...
}
The function is assigned to the onclick event of some elements in the
HTML source:
<input ... onclick="someFunction(this);" ...>
and dynamically to others:
elRef.onclick = someFunction;
When someFunction() is called from the statically-assigned onclick, el
is a reference to the element. But when it has been added dynamically,
el will be either undefined (IE) or 'event' (Mozilla et al).
To assign the right value to el, I can test if el exists and if it does,
whether its constructor is some type of HTML element or 'Event'. But IE
doesn't support the constructor property for elements (or have I just
not found it yet?) nor does it understand 'Event' the way Mozilla does. Code:

Concider below table, here both 1 and 1_1 are visible but 2 is and 2_1 is not visible.
I need to filter out 1 and 1_1 as they are both visible and only keep 2 in my selection.

I am trying to assign values to a bunch of form fields. However, I don't want to loop through EVERY field in the form, just a specific subset of fields. The fields I am trying to change are all named similarly myField1, myField2, myField3.So, my thought is that I would like to use a for loop and loop through the appropriate fields by simply incrementing a variable and appending it to the end of the string "myField" in order to change the appropriate field.How can I evaluate "myField + iterator" into a useable reference to change the value of said field?

I have a jQuery script that changes the background color of odd rows in a table. If a row has class "new", though, it won't change it:
Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('tr[class!=new]:odd').css({'background-color':'#ddd'});
});
Is it possible to specify another class (together with "new") to which the script should not change the color? If yes, what's the syntax?

I have written a function to make visible elements with a certain id. however i intended it to be used to make visible multiple elements but it only appears to switch on the first element it comes to with that id. after that it appears to stop. i was wondering how i can adapt this function to make visible multiple elements, will i need a different way of referencing or can it be done through id?
function toggleLayer( layerID ) {
var style2 = document.getElementById( layerID );
if (style2.style.display == "block") {
style2.style.display = "none";
}
else {
style2.style.display = "block";
}
}

I have a javascript function that loops throught all text boxes inside
a form:
var elems = document.formName.elements;
for(i = 0; i < elems.length; i++) {
if(elems[i].type && elems[i].type.toLowerCase()=="text")
do something
}
This way it goes through every single text box in the form.
But in my form structure, some form elements (text boxes included)
are inside invisible divs.
And what I actually want to do, is to check only the text boxes
that are not inside invisible divs.
Is there a way to say in javascript something like:
choose only textbox that is not inside element (div) whose
className='invisible'?
Or maybe I should try a different approach, instead looping through
all form elements?

I can get it and everything like that but for some reason the jQuery doesn't pick up the divs that I appended to the container because when I alert the div.length like this: alert(divs.length); The result is always zero. The code works fine if I can populate that value but if I don't have it in the code before hand it doesn't work. However if I add a div to the container like this:
