Updating A Figure When Items Selected In A Ddl
May 23, 2005
I have a form for taking customer details. Part of the form will allow the user to select some upgrades for their selected product. The upgrades will be displayed in a drop down list with their additional cost. The total cost of the product being ordered will be displayed on the page.
Could someone please advise me on the best way to automatically update the total cost displayed on the page each time an upgrade is selected? I am using PHP for the site but I'm assuming that javascript is the best choice for this.

I'm attempting to physically change the index order of the elements returned by a selector.For example, I'm attempting to make it so when someone clicks on a button, it swaps the index position of the element above or below it (depending on which button they press).I tried to assign it using something like $('.draggable :eq(2)').attr('index', 3)But it didn't seem to work. Is there a way to do it using jQuery, or do I have to change it within DOM itself? Or is there another way to do it?

I'm not entirely familiar with the norms and standard libraries of
JavaScript so if the answer to this is yesterday's news, please ignore.
I'm trying to write a simple text formatting function to make headings
proper case -- i.e. first letter of words capitalized.
I first tried this...
function inProperCase(s)
{
var result, i, k;
i = 0; result = s.toLowerCase();
while ((k = result.indexOf(' ', i)) -1) {
if (k - i 0) {
result[i] = result[i].toUpperCase();
}
i = k + 1;
}
if (result.length - i 1) {
result[i] = result[i].toUpperCase();
}
return result;
}
...but it didn't work. To my amazement, you cannot set a character in a
string by accessing that character with an index, like so:
s[i] = ch;
Must be because JavaScript strings are "Immutable" or "EtchedInStone" or
something. (Just kidding, no flames, please. I'm sure it is more
efficient.)
The only thing I could come up with was this (with some details, like the
"compound" while predicate, modified into a more readable form after being
called a "C-bigot" by a friend :)) which seems pretty heavy-handed with all
the string slicing and concatting:
function inProperCase(s)
{
var result = s.toLowerCase(),
i = 0, k = result.indexOf(' ', i);
while (k -1) {
if (k - i 0) {
result = result.substring(0, i) +
result[i].toUpperCase() +
result.substring(i+1, result.length);
}
i = k + 1;
k = result.indexOf(' ', i);
}
if (result.length - i 1) {
result = result.substring(0, i) +
result[i].toUpperCase() +
result.substring(i+1, result.length);
}
return result;
}
You call this as...
inProperCase(" madam i'm adam ");
...and you get...
" Madam I'm Adam "
Any suggestions for making this a bit more elegant?
BTW You may point me to a "library" with a super-efficient implementation
of this function, but that is not the point. My issue is, how do we update
single characters in a string (or single items in an array) in JavaScript?
Is it something like...
s.wouldYouCareToUpdateThisChar(i, ch); // :D (just kidding, calm
down...)
-or-
s.setCharAt(i, ch); ...

<option id=4>fourth</option>
<option id=5>fifth</option>

Then I have a string of id's that I want to set to selected like so.

I am a beginner with JavaScript. I have modified a script or two, but have no real JavaScript knowledge. Others with more knowledge than I have suggested that I check here.
I am building a website for my daughter. She wants to put up a list of items (groceries). The visitors would select the items they want to buy, and then print a shopping list. If there is an available online coupon, that may also be printed. There would be no need to remember the information after the visitor prints. I will be getting a JavaScript book(s) to teach myself something about the language, but for this project, I don't know where to start?
Do I need to have the items in a database, or just program a button in front of each item?
Do I need two different (or more) scripts? One to select items, one to display the items, and one to print (or use the browser print)?

the html i want to display are checkboxes so it's more stuff for a form i'm using lotus notes, so i have to use javascript.
i can get it to display a checkbox if a particular item is selected but it won't show up in place, it loads a new page with the check box the only thing on that new page.
function updateChecks()
{
string = "";
if (document._WEBRequest.dataReq.value == "blah") {
string = "<input type="checkbox" name="check" />";
string += "Boundary";
}
return string;
}
function writeChecks()
{
document.write(updateChecks());
}
the writeChecks() function is called onChange for the listbox
also don't have much clue as to how to make it show more checkboxes if more than one item is selected in the listbox.

Is there a way to make a form label change color when, eg: a checkbox is checked, a menu/list item selected, or a radio button clicked?
Let say the label was dark gray and then will change to green when it is selected.
The bad news is I do not have the slightest clue as to how this is going to happen or if it is possible with Javascript. I searched Google but nothing Is this possible?

I need to create some code that is similar to photos.com, istock.com, etc., where when you mouse over and image, a new window opens showing an image larger, and closes when you mouse off the original. All of the code I try either keeps the window open when you mouse off, or is blocked by Firefox's pop-up blocker, which photos.com does not.

I found out that using toFixed(3) will get it to be 0.785, but the problem is that it add x.x00 for some numbers where there aren't much decimal numbers. Is there a way I can remove the 0's?

I have an ASP.net page where I load a record set server side and upload it into a listbox. I'm trying to do all the movement functionalities of the listbox items client side. Specifically, I'm trying to figure out how to copy selected listbox items from one listbox to another -- on button click. I've searched for a while, but every example that I found moves the actual item into another listbox, I just want to copy the selected item to another listbox.
