Then I have a string of id's that I want to set to selected like so.
var selectedIds = '1,3,5';
Is it possible to use jquery (preferably in a one liner) to set first, third and fifth to selected.?

Nov 30, 2009I have 2 combo boxes where you can move the items in combo box 1 to combo box 2. I want to validate that combo box 2 actually has something moved to it. How can I count the items in combo box 2. Combo box 2 will initially have no items in the box on page load. It is up to the user to move the items to combo box 2 and I want to make sure at least 1 item was moved.

Jun 9, 2009I have a page that displays a list of people playing in a tournament. I need to be able to generate a Leaderboard based on which players are manually selected by the admin. Next to each person there is a drop-down list. An admin can go in and select a "slot" that a player should be in on the leader board from 1 to 8, or leave it blank if none. What I need to figure out how to do is the following, when a change event happens on a drop-down list, and say the value 5 is selected, I need to check to make sure that 5 is not already selected in one of the other players drop-down lists, in other words, that the 5th leaderboard slot is not already full. if it is, display an error message and make them change that one first. how to do that with jQuery? I'm thinking it will have something to do with the each() function, but not sure exactly how the logic should work.

May 23, 2005I have a form for taking customer details. Part of the form will allow the user to select some upgrades for their selected product. The upgrades will be displayed in a drop down list with their additional cost. The total cost of the product being ordered will be displayed on the page.
Could someone please advise me on the best way to automatically update the total cost displayed on the page each time an upgrade is selected? I am using PHP for the site but I'm assuming that javascript is the best choice for this.

I am building a website for my daughter. She wants to put up a list of items (groceries). The visitors would select the items they want to buy, and then print a shopping list. If there is an available online coupon, that may also be printed. There would be no need to remember the information after the visitor prints. I will be getting a JavaScript book(s) to teach myself something about the language, but for this project, I don't know where to start?
Do I need to have the items in a database, or just program a button in front of each item?
Do I need two different (or more) scripts? One to select items, one to display the items, and one to print (or use the browser print)?

the html i want to display are checkboxes so it's more stuff for a form i'm using lotus notes, so i have to use javascript.
i can get it to display a checkbox if a particular item is selected but it won't show up in place, it loads a new page with the check box the only thing on that new page.

Selecting Items In A List Box
Jul 23, 2005I have a javascript index that is similar to the one in the Windows
help. It has a text field that allows the you to type text and it
finds the closest item in the list below the text field. The list is
simply a select element with options that looks like this:

</SELECT>
My problem is when I have a large list, the closest entry selects the
item in the list at the bottom of the list box, not the top of the
list box.
So here's the question: Is there a way to get the list box to display
the selected item and move it to the top of the list and not just find
it at the bottom?
To get an idea of what I 'want' it to look like, in Windows, go to
Help & Support (in XP it's in your start menu) and pick Index. I
basically want it to mirror that functionality.

I have amanged to be able to move the items from one list box to another and get the values of the second list box. What I need now is the values of the items added to the second list box and the values of the items removed from the second list box. Jun 5, 2009Is there a way to make a form label change color when, eg: a checkbox is checked, a menu/list item selected, or a radio button clicked?
Let say the label was dark gray and then will change to green when it is selected.
The bad news is I do not have the slightest clue as to how this is going to happen or if it is possible with Javascript. I searched Google but nothing Is this possible?

Compare Items In A Drop Down List
Jul 29, 2010I want to compare items based on what the user picks there will be 3 drop down menus and the drop down menus should alter the HTML table each time it is changed, giving different option values and stuff. I am wondering how to go about this I have the basic stuff setup but I am not really sure how to add to a table that all 3 options use.Here is my current code for the drop downs.

I want the user to select one of the options from above and a table to show up showing the differences between the others for example; someone selects Value 1 for compare, and Value 2 for compare 2, and Value 3 for Compare 3, they should be shown a table which has the differences between Value 1, Value 2, Value 3. So lets say Value 1 and Value 3 offers you "Help" while value 2 doesn't. it should show a table that says
