Make Form Labels Change Color When Items Are Checked Or Selected?
Jun 5, 2009
Is there a way to make a form label change color when, eg: a checkbox is checked, a menu/list item selected, or a radio button clicked?
Let say the label was dark gray and then will change to green when it is selected.
The bad news is I do not have the slightest clue as to how this is going to happen or if it is possible with Javascript. I searched Google but nothing Is this possible?

I'm having trouble changing the font color of my labels ONLY when I stop the form from submitting due to blank fields. I'm not sure whether if just changing my CSS will achieve what I want, or am I going to have to add somethig to my if else statement, or both? I would think I would need to change CSS to :
label.onfocus {
color:red;
}
but a little confused on what else.

I am trying to implement a color picker in my application, so, as, whenever a user selects a certain text, he'll click on a link and a color picker pop will appear, i am able to get the selected text, able to pick the color, bt, not getting a way to apply this color to foreground or background.
e.g, suppose the color i get is: #cc000;
the selected text is:
var text=document.getElementById('text');
var seltext = text.document.getSelection()="My Name is Jon";
Now, i want to know a way to apply this color to "My Name is Jon".

I am using a checkbox to turn on and off some labels on a line on a google map, which is working fine if the line is already drawn, using this function:
function distboxclick(labelsbox) {
if (labelsbox.checked) {
for (var i=0; i<distmarkers.length; i++) {
if (distmarkers[i].mLabel != null) distmarkers[i].mLabel.show();
}
} else {
[Code]....
but the thing is that I want the labels to be turned off to begin with and switched on if the box is checked.

This is for an online quiz that collects selected answers through hidden checkboxes, and when a checkbox is selected the javascript changes the background of that selected item. However the problem is when javascript is disabled the whole thing won't work because the checkboxes have a class of .hide which, obviously, hides them and the user can't see that they've actually selected an item as the background color won't change. So I was thinking that instead the javascript could apply the class of hide to the input. That way if it's disabled the checkboxes will show.
<style type="text/css">
.hide { display:none;
*display:block;
*margin:0;
*padding:0;
*width:0px;
}
</style>

I am trying to develop an exam system.Find my code below.I request you to copy the code and save it as an html file .I have 2 problems:
1. Kindly notice that when the quiz is loaded,it shows both the questions by default.I want only question 1 to be visible when the quiz loads.What happens presently is that ,both questions are visible even after I click on the link
Q.1( referring to question 1).However,when I click on
Q. 2,then only question 2 can be seen and then(after clicking on Q.2) if I click on Q.1,then only question 1 can be seen
What I want is that when the page loads only question 1 is visible.Then when I click on Q.2,I can see only question 2 and when I click on Q.1, I can see only question 1.I later plan on adding many questions,so it should be a general solution rather than a solution good only for 2 questions.
2.Also,what I want is that,if someone selects any of the answers of a particular question,it's link color should turn green to indicate to the user that he answered that question.So for,instance,if I select an answer to the first question(select one of London,New York,Seattle,Washington,Chicago), the link Q.1 should turn green.

I am trying to create a place where if someone changes a color in a text field... (they can just enter 000000 or FFFFFF or anything like that) after they change it, (just off focus, or just click test button or whatever..) it changes a TD to match the color... so they know what the color looks like... its not neccessary to have it do this, but its a feature I think would be liked.

I'm trying to make watermark labels for both my username and password fields. Currently the password field displays the password watermark in asterisks. I only want asterisks to be displayed when a user types in values. Here is an example of what my login looks like with the word password in asterisks when someone loads the page.
<div id="username">
<input id="username-field" class="loginFields" type="text" name="username" title="Username" value="Username" />

I'm trying to make a form element only appear if a radio button has been selected.I have two buttons (yes and no).If Yes is selected I'd like a text input field to appear.I have the following:
Code JavaScript:
<script>
$('input:radio[name:scheme]').click(function() {[code]....
my group of radio buttons are named "scheme". I have tried this from a few angles but can't crack it. Ideally I'd like to use input:radio[value:yes]. It's already a required value due to the JQuery validation plugin, and I simply need it to make the other field visible when yes is clicked on.

I want to compare the total number of checkboxes with the number of checked checkboxes of a certain nameI use these 2 functions:
alert($('input[name=checkItem]').length); // To get the total count
alert($('input[name=checkItem]:selected').length); //To get the total selected count
The first one works, the second one doesn't.

Please look at the following comment form:
http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation
There's a similar one on this page:
http://jquery.bassistance.de/validate/demo/
I'd like to put the labels on the right of text input fields and display the error messages under input fields.
Tried almost anything, but to no avail.

I have this markup:
[Code]...
There are two radio buttons, sometimes one will be disabled, other times the other will be disabled. I would like to make a script that: First: Changes the color of surrounding text of the disabled radio button to the color grey. Second: Checks the other radio button.
This was my plan: I would make a script that: First: Removes all the current classes and add the class "greyed_out" (or better: change only the color of) the parent element, all siblings and children of siblings (if any) of the radio button that is disabled at that time.Second: Sets the attribute "checked to the other radio button". I made a script, but when I set the bottom radio button to disabled the script doesn't work:

have been trying to rework this to call additional, independent sets of colors to cycle through (so it would loop thru a set of grays, a set of primary colors, etc). I would use perhaps a different function name in the HTML to call different sets of colors. If this is more complex than I think it is, I think 3 sets would be plenty. demo link of script in current state at bottom)
<html><head><title></title>
<script language=javascript>
colors = ["#cacdca", "#b2b4b2", "#969896", "#7d7f7d", "#ffff00"];
cRGB = [];

My code changes the font color of a table row to red when a checkbox is checked, and reverts when unchecked. I need to apply this to the text in a specific DIV rather than the checkbox row. I also need the text to fade to red then revert each time a checkbox changes state, rather than stay red and revert when unchecked. I basically want to draw users attention to a totals panel whenever there is checkbox activity.
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">

I'm using a form in several places for this project. I don't want to duplicates of this form so I have it as an include file. Each page requires all the same fields, however, there is one page where I'd like to remove two fields.
<fieldset>
<label for="FirstName">First Name</label>
<input id="FirstName" />
</fieldset>
Is there a way to remove an input field and it's label by selecting the ID of the input field? I looked at the JQuery doc, and there's a prev + next selector which shows $('label + input').css ... this will set css properties for an input element that follows a label element. something like $('#FirstName > label + input').remove...

I have a form which contains FOUR text fields (e.g. TEXTFIELD1, TEXTFIELD2, TEXTFIELD3 & TEXTFIELD4). Each text field holds a HEX,DEC color value. ABOVE this form I have a table with TWO ROWS (ROW1 and ROW2). ROW1 should correspond with TEXTFIELD1, so that when the VALUE in TEXTFEILD1 is changed the background color of ROW1 will change to match the HEX,DEC VALUE entered in TEXTFIELD1. The same would happen with TEXTFIELD2 and ROW2. TEXTFIELD3 should be used to change the color of the TEXT inside ROW1 and TEXTFIELD4 should change the color of the TEXT in ROW2. I also wanted to know if it would be possible to achieve this without clicking any button.
------------------------------------------------------------------
| ROW1 | TEXT IN ROW 1
------------------------------------------------------------------
| ROW2 | TEXT IN ROW 2
------------------------------------------------------------------
TEXTFIELD1 <----HEXDEC VALUE GOES HERE to change color of ROW1---->[code]....
