Hide Elements On Another HTML Page After Clicking Button
Aug 23, 2011
I was just wondering whether there is a way to hide an element on another page after clicking on a button?Basically, I have a login page, and for testing purposes, I want it so when you click a button, it runs some javascript in a file called ajax.util.js, and I have a jQuery file attached to the HTML file as well URL..., and I am using Google App Engine, which im not sure whether thats relevant. I tried using the show and hide functions provided by the jQuery file, but no luck, i want to hide an element which is a link with ID admintools. I have also tried getting the element by ID and changing the display style to none and hidden but still no luck. Im not sure whether its only possible to hide elements in the login.html page.
What I want it to do basically is click on the submit button in the login page, it will then run a javascript function which redirects you to index.html (which i am doing using window.location), and then hides an element in the index.html page (id=admintools).

I'm working on a simple website in which I'm required to use two types of forms input on a webpage. I have decided to make a simple quiz which will be designed.Is this possible in a simple way? Sounds quite straight-forward.Is it possible to design a radio button which, depending on the choice, the related-text will appear underneath on the same page? So if they select 'A' then paragraph 'A' will show, if they select 'C' then paragraph 'C' will appear (with the rest hiding)..

I have a HTML document with form. The form has several radio buttons. I want different elements of HTML (including <input> elements) to appear when each radio button is selected. Also, it is intended to show only those elements for a specific radio button. For example, if i select RB1, it shows me element div 1 and hides all others. If i select RB2, it hides element div 1 and shows element div 2, et cetera. So far it works fine with .style.visibility = 'hidden' and 'block'. Now, here comes the problem - each element appears below the previous element, they appear as they are in the HTML, no matter if i show the previous one. It looks pretty bad, because element positions are jumping as i select different radio buttons. How do i keep them in the same level, at the same position?

I have been staring at this problem for too long and most likely missing a simple solution so I hope somebody can take my blindfold off and show me the way The markup (which comes from a CMS and I cannot change it) I am working with is akin to:
<div id="faq">
<p><strong class="open">FAQ 1</strong></p>
<p>FAQ 1 content lorem ipsem lorem ipsem ad infinitum</p>
[code]....
Notice how the second fo 3 FAQ sections has 2 paragraphs under the 'trigger' rather than 1? Therein lies my problem, because what I am doing with prototype.js is:
1.) Loop through page and collect all <p>'s
2.) do a .each iteration and attach an onclick event on $$('p strong.open') - assume this node for each iteration is now var 'trigger'
3.) run Element.hide() on trigger.next()
4.) in the onclick event, run Element.show() for trigger.next()
- If you are still following so far - my problem is that next() only shows/hides one single element and that is the <p> holding the content - which is fine except when there are 2 or even more <p>'s with content I need to act on. I;ve experimented with nextSiblings and adjacent() and I end up with too many nodes - basically every <p> in the entire document. I just want 'hide all P's after the trigger P up until the next p > strong.open

I have a set of radio buttons on my pricing page:
And a corresponding text_field input element div I'd like to display based on which radio button the user selects:
When the page loads, I'd like to see:
When the user clicks on a (different) radio button, or clicks one for the first time, I'd like whichever div is currently showing to be hidden, and the newly selected one to be shown.
Right now I have jQuery code at the bottom of my page that looks like this:
For each of the four options.
When the page loads, the correct div is shown, and when I select a new button, the new div is shown, but the already showing one isn't hidden.
I've read some posts that suggest using change() instead of click(), but others indicate that's problematic in IE.

i assume this is fairly simple to do! however i cant seem to find a solution that works.
i have links which use shadowbox to load content as an iframe, but in ie if the page is not loaded it takes you direct to the html page instead.
i thought if i could hide the ul elements which contain the links until the page loads this would work.
does any body know how i can do this with unobtrusive javascript ideally?

I have a page that is generated using php. Below, the pdf newsletter for each month is embedded directly into the page. What I want to do is have some javascript that when the link for a month is clicked, the embedded pdf expands below and when the user clicks on another month, that newsletter is hidden then the one they clicked on gets displayed; so only one newsletter is displayed at a time.

I need to somehow hide this block of HTML code in my page. Now I have no control over the code as it comes from another site so there is no ID or anything. If the <a> or <td> tags had ID I could hide it with javascript.
Code:
<tr>
<td>
<center style="color: rgb(82, 87, 87); font-size: 10px;">Some Text <a target="_blank" style="color: rgb(82, 87, 87); font-size: 10px;" href="http://google.com/">google is good</a>
</center>
</td>
</tr>

I have a page that is dynamically build through DOM manipulation. So, when I browse outside the page, and then click back, those dynamically created DOM objects are gone. I can rebuild the page easily. So the point is that if the user leaves the dynamic page, then clicks back on their browser, I need the page they are going back to to refresh. I thought it might be something about caching, so I've tried to use all following 3 META tags but it doesn't work.
Code:
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">

I am trying to do is load new content into a form without resetting the form. I have about 10 checkboxes, once 4 are selected I would like to reload a div in the page to insert four corresponding textareas with the same id as the checkboxes. So for example the checkboxes:
Code:
<div id="page_select">
<input type="checkbox" name="option1" id="option1" value="Home" /> Home
<input type="checkbox" name="option2" id="option2" value="About" /> About</div>
There would be about 10 after 4 are selected than four divs with textareas are loaded onto the page - These textareas have the same id in order for the right ones to load. If your wondering why not just hide the textareas and show when then have been selected by the checkboxes, its because they have a wysiwyg editor attach so it would start to load slow after I add say 10-20 different textareas.
Would this work:
Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#reload_1').click(function() {
//var names = [];
var myScripts = new Array(4)
$('#page_select input:checked').each(function() {
names.push(this).attr("id");
});
$('#content_div').load('external_content.php.html # . + '. myScripts[0]);
$('#content_div').load('external_content.php.html # . + '. myScripts[1]);
$('#content_div').load('external_content.php.html # . + '. myScripts[2]);
$('#content_div').load('external_content.php.html # . + '. myScripts[3]);
If I had all the divs and textareas in external_page.php and load only the ones needed.

I have a page I am working and I am having some trouble with: I need to show and hide areas based on a radio selection. I initally started using the show / hide feature in Jquery but the problem is the elements need to be removed but then put back if the user selects the radio buttonagain as it has form elements that have validaion on them. The validation is still trying to validate the form elements becuase they are still on the page but just not showing. This is the radio group the user makes the selection from:
<input name="terms_usr" type="radio" id="terms_usr_1" value="1"/>
<label for="terms_usr_1">Credit Card</label>
<input type="radio" name="terms_usr" id="terms_usr_2" value="2"/>
<label for="terms_usr_2">C.O.D</label>
[Code]....

I have a page that inserts a div after another div on my page. Basically this div and its content are generated by the server and outputted via Ajax when the user clicks a button.I have something like:
//Listener function
$("div").click( function () {
alert("thing");
});
Clicking any of the divs that were loaded on the page will give this alert however, clicking on this div that was inserted after the user clicks a button does not respond to this listener. I put my rendered html into the w3c validator and my page has no errors (because I thought that maybe I had a missing end tag which would cause jquery to not work).

I have a page that submits to a db then re-loads its self with new information. Unfortunately it goes wrong when the user double clicks on a one of many text links that provides the info for the display on reload. How do I stop users from double clicking on the page? Ideally I think I would like to call some sort of js function from body onload as I presume this would then cover the whole of the page, but have no idea if this is possible or how to go about writing it.

code below:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".toggle_container").hide(); // Hides the container onLoad
$("h2.trigger").click(function(){
[code]....
now i have a rating plugin that sits in the h2 tag. when i click the rating star, it behaves as intended, but also then somehow calls the above code and expands the FAQ answer.

I am trying to make a gui for clients to edit a php page that displays html and javascript.
I want the user to be able to move html elements around and even edit it like add effects like fade in and out etc.
Then after all the changes I want to overwrite the existing php file that does this for that user. how can you make such changes and then save it to a file?
It's an html / javascript editor but using a gui instead of allowing them to directly touch the code. It would be a security risk if I allow such a thing. So I need to program a interface that would make such changes and save them to file.
Like how can you delete and add new javascript code to the file?

I have HTML tags stored in XML. I want to be able to use these HTML elements with Javascript, just as you can with elements in document.body. How can it be done? (And don't try and tell me I should use server-side because I have written it all for Javascript and the project is nearly complete minus this and there are practical reasons for not doing this server-side. After all, anything is possible with Javascript!)
Let me explain:
- I have HTML templates such as this [URL]
- I want javascript to populate these templates then add them to my page
- The only way I know javascript can get this kind of data is by parsing XML
- I want to parse the XML then be able to use the HTML elements just like those in document.body
- As far as I'm aware, XML is the only good way of storing data for javascript. I don't want to store it in javascript variables (too much multiline data with " and '). Nor do I want to build it using document.createElement("div")... etc
As someone not yet with any experience in computer science etc, please ignore my poor terminology! However, I'm not a beginner when it comes to javascript.
Here's the script concerned but I doubt it'll help you understand my problem: [URL]
