JQuery :: Dynamically Add Divs To HTML Page And Get Its Contents?
May 12, 2010
There is a project called Seed which allows JavaScript programs to run on the Linux desktop. There is connected project called SeedKit which runs HTML files as a Graphical User Interface front end for JavaScript files run by Seed. It acts like a webpage which rather than linked to a web-server is linked to a JavaScript program with HTML events like buton clicks etc that drives JavaScript much in the same way as normal desktop Graphical toolkits do. I hope this page from my blog starts a bit.
http:[url]....
Both projects are quite new so is very experimental. I am not involved in the development of any of the projects but I am trying to create a few examples to show how it works. My first example is to take the contents of the log folder /var/log, display it in the SeedKit HTML file and when a user clicks on it, it displays the contents of the log file.The way I am going about this is firstly to create a two column table in the HTML thus:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>[code]....
The table on the HTML file is populated with the file names but I can't get the contents of the specific div I have clicked on. I tried $(this).text() but it displays all the text in the table.
I can't seem to extract XML from an somepage.xml document and display it on a regular webpage. I have no way of reading its contents.
I read up on some microsoft way of doing it, but not sure that is gonna fly (need it for most browsers), so can this be done easily with json/ajax?
I have an xml file in normal format:
www.somedomain.com/somepath/somexml.xml
<products> <items> <item>blah</item>
[Code]....
So, how do I get that data to manipulate and display in my html? I don't even know where to begin with json/ajx etc.. and how to call the xml file etc..
How do you update the contents of a form from a click of a button? I can poplate the contents of a table that is inside a form on the initial creation of the page
and this is the contents of the function populatePatientList(); for (var x=0;x<mainArr.length;x++) { document.write("<tr>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][0] + "</td>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][1] + "</td>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][2] + "</td>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][3] + "</td>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][4] + "</td>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][5] + "</td>" + "<td>" + mainArr[x][6] + "</td>" + "</tr>"); }
After this the table will have all the contents of the array. How do I reinvoke the form to have the updated version of the array shown on the table without refreshing the whole page? The page cannot be refreshed because the data is just in an array and when I do refresh the page the contents of the array gets back to its default. Is it even possible to refresh just a part of a page, in my case a table after a button click or are there other button events I can try to play with?
So here is my problem...I've been banging my head against the wall for days with this one.How do you send data through the URL to be handled by a script in page.html, where page.html processes the data and dynamically displays the data in a modal. I can get the script to execute without trying to display in a modal, but as soon as I attempt to display in a modal, all I get is the static HTML without the jquery dynamic html.I know some code should be given, but if anyone could just walk me through the logic of why static html might be shown but not the dynamic, I think i can figure it out.
On my webpage, I dynamically create an iFrame when a button is pressed, then load a html page from within my own domain into the iframe, based on what html page is loaded into a variable. My question is, can I dynamically change the font family of the loaded html page from the javascript of the main page? My code to create the iframe is:
function setSubTxt(){ var par = document.getElementById('parentDiv'); par.innerHTML = '<iframe src="'+subTxt+'" style="width: 375px; position: fixed; height: 365px; left: 400px; top: 145px; border=none;" name="subIframe" frameBorder=0></iframe>'; frames['subIframe'].window.location=subTxt; document.subIframe.document.body.style.fontFamily = "Arial"; [Code]....
the variable "subTxt" has the url of the html page to be loaded (always on the same domain). The code: document.subIframe.document.body.style.fontFamily = "Arial"; was my attempt to dynamically change the font, but it didn't work. Also, it should be noted that there is no font family set in the html pages which would override this.
Im currently working on a project with jquery... the thing is.. i need to change the contents of a div named "sub2" with the contents of "pets.html"... i've read some tutorials and i thought the best way to do this is through the use of jquery...
Here's my code:
My image which is supposed to be clicked contains this:
The code is working ., but when i transfer my codes to netbeans with Tomcat running the code didnt work ...
Is there anyone here who knows what's wrong or what should i do with my code?
I have two problems that I suspect will be bread-and-butter problems for the more experienced guys on here, but I'm not the greatest with js.
NB: Code snippets at the bottom
The first problem is that after a bit of fiddling I'm getting am 'Object Expected' error when I click on the Depot dropdown which I can't seem to get round. The code I had was working OK but then I cut it all out, tidied it all up, and put it back in and now it doesnt work.
The second problem is a 'How do I...'. I'm using an XML data island to retrieve some data without submitting the form. In the first example, when the user selects a Customer, the Depot list is updated with all the depots for that customer; This all works fine. What I want to do now is retrieve some more data when the Depot is selected.
I have the XML bits working; the js code snippet correctly output a series of msgboxes with the correct value in (or at least it did until I introduced the Object Expect error!).
However, I'm unsure as to how to display this information on the page. The XML contains a series of Part No's and Quantities, which I'd like to display in a table towards the bottom of the screen. The problem is that I don't know how to dynamically create and populate this table.
The only caveat is that I dont want to show the table if no values are returned from the query....
i need to add n number of text box in a html page, the main idea is when the user press a button apear 2 text box and if he do it again apear 2 text box more and so on, also need that all the text boxes has a unique id, in order to make some thing whit the values. but i dont know how to do it.
I'm trying to add html controls dynamically. and I successful in that using clone method. But I lost my way I confused how to retrieve the values from the controls which I had cloned. Below is the simplified code i had done.
I'm trying to add dynamically generated HTML after the page has loaded. I've tried two versions.The latest versions is this, using insertBefore (as appendChild is buggy in a few browsers according to the SitePoint reference) ...
Code:
addImageField: function(x) { var newNode = createImageField(x); var src = document.getElementById("imageUploads");
[code]...
The first alert returns: object HTMLFieldsetElement .The second alert returns: object HTMLDivElement....and the third alert fails to fire, indicating a problem with the code above.Note that if I change the problem line to remove the null reference it still doesn't work (again the third alert won't fire):
Basically I have this grab from a myspace profile to import a band's upcoming show listings on another website. The problem is that myspace puts all this information into a table, and in order to style the elements individually, I need a way to grab all the text from each cell and put them into their own divs. I don't want any table or tbody or tr or td references or anything, just the content from the cells placed in their own divs so I that I can style this individually.
If you could come up with a way to move all information from inside a cell into an array, that would also work. code...
Many ajax and javascript functions change the innerHTML of elements in the source, writing and rewriting things in the source
You can run any javascript function or action you want that would change the source, but when you view it, it will always show the original source before a JS function changed it
Is there a way to view the changed source after each time a JS functoin changes it??
for example: <span id="whatever">This is the original source code</span>
then you may run this piece of JS: whatever.innerHTML= 'Changed source code!'
but when you right click and press 'view source" you will always get this: <span id="whatever">This is the original source code</span>
I want to get the changed source code, maybe its possible to write the changed source code to another file, or use some kind of HTTP prog to read the changes on an html page?
I'm trying to dynamically insert the Tweetmeme button using Javascript. I'm currently using jQuery throughout the site. Here's the script that I'm using. I basically want to cycle through all the blog entries with a class of journal-entry and append the following JavaScript to the end. This Javascript comes straight from[URL].. This doesn't work for me though and it has something to do with the code between append(). It doesn't like the second set of script tags.
I am trying to figure out how I can dynamically wrap divs around inputs. I need to set the divs to the input's width and height and the same positions except top should be a little less compared to the inputs. I need to create more then one div for each input.
When I test alert() the .html() contents it appears like this. It seems to screw up the quote escape and changes " to " ;="" after the recordchecks().[code]...
So even though the source code looks perfect, if I alert() the div contents with html() it seems to get a bit garbled in the process.
I have a page with a div that contains other divs. In the outer div, I have links that add new divs inside. I also have a link outside the outer div that adds more of those outer divs to the page (with an inner div, and the same links to add more). This works on the div that is hard coded on the page, but when I use the link to add additional container divs the links inside there to add more inner divs does not function.
I'm trying to create a little game (If you can call it that) where every time the user hovers over a <div> which contains a button, said <div> moves to a random point on the page.I've tried a way of moving the item and Googled extensively but have not yet come up with a way of doing it.This is my current code:
Which does not work. I hover over the <div> and the button, yet nothing happens. I can click the button, which seems to be the only thing working right now.
I use .prepend to add html contents in an existing html tag. When i view the source in IE i can't see the added content. I tried it with Chrome and it's working and see the contents immediately.
Does anyone know how to Dynamically add new rows to a table through plain javascript. I tried changing the InnerHTML with getelementbyid() already and that doesn't work.
and i'd like a javascript function to which i could pass a line number, a destination number, and it would then reorganize the table accordingly. example: rebuildtable(4,2) would result in:
I have tried a method using innerHTML, I seem to be able to access <tr>s' innerhtml (if i do an alert on them i can see their current status), however when i want to replace one tr with some other html it fails for some reason.
Currently, I have a php form with various inputs, and a div where I am embedding an (initially) empty open flash chart object.Right now, I am calling a php file on the submit of the form, which takes the form data, calls a python script to process the form data, and then creates an open flash chart object using the data the python script returns.There are a few problems with this:
1. When the submit on the form is called, it goes to a different page where the chart is displayed, when I would really just like to update the contents of the chart div where I initially embedded the empty chart.
2. The processing of the form in the python code can take some time, so what I would really like is to have the chart "check" the output of the python script periodically and update the chart each time, adding the new data points to the old ones.
I know I can do all of these things with javascript and Ajax, I just can't seem to find any tutorials or examples that are exactly what I am looking for.
