Store Cookies Containing User Information?
Dec 6, 2010
I am having some trouble with creating cookies and getting them to work for an onclick event. What I am trying to do is create a button to store cookies containing all user information with an alert message and set the expiration date one day after the visit. (This is just a project I am working on to help me understand how to create cookies.)Below is the cookies code I came up with but it doesn't seem to be functioning at all.

I have a HTML form containing two text box controls in it and a submit button. When a user enters information in those two textboxes and click on submit, the information is sent to a function in Javascript. In the javascript, the information from those textboxes is stored in a javascript variable. The problem is as follows:When I am inputting string text in the html text boxes and in the javascript when I am trying to print those values, it is giving me out an error saying NaN. However when i input integer values in the text boxes it is printing those numbers. Is there a conversion that I have to do for the string to be printed. I am new to Javascript and need your help. This is a basic code of Javascript. Below is the code that I have.
<html>
<script type = "text/javascript">
function square(form)

I am currently in the process of writing an interactive calendar in jscript. It's my first major project so bear with me please, I'm quite new :P.
I was hoping to add a section of code to the calendar which would allow me to display events happening on a certain date and add new ones etc.
However I was not sure how best to store the information as I know javascript is not 'designed' to access files. I was wondering maybe a cookie or learning how to use SQL? Or is there something that I haven't come accross yet?

I wanted to define additional attribute to a tag to manage information. I realized that XHTML might not like it and discovered the data(name,value) function. I was wondering how I could retrieve all tags e.g. "div" that have that data variable set.

I'm looking for a simple way to store a cookie of all form data (form contains text, textbox, checkbox, radio button, and dropdown) on submit so that the form repopulates with the same data when the page is reloaded.I have found several solutions online that cover one aspect or another to varying degrees, but nothing that is easy for a beginner and covers all the bases.

Is it necessary to use cookies when you want to save information in a form textfield and be able to click back to that page and the information is still there before submitting it. Sometimes it seems to stay sometimes not?

I would like to put a welcome message on one of my sites... something like "welcome username!" with the username being the login name that that person used to login to their computers.
Is it possible to gather this information using client-side js? if not, how can i accomplish this without having each person enter their name upon entering the page?

We need to find a way to pull a user's NT ID (Windows log on), and store it in a variable for use later on, and also to watermark the screen on HTML pages in an eLearning course. I have no idea how to do this and I can't seem to find anyone who has encountered a need for this.

I'm trying to create a simple checkout system that utilizes cookies to pass information from page to page. Currently, my entire script works fine except for the read cookie portion. I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. It has been validated and the syntax is fine; it just doesn't work. I use the function with the onload call on my html file such as:

I would like to implement a cookie feature on my site that when a user logs in a cookie is stored for him and the next time he comes back, he doesn't have to sign in. I have researched hotscripts and javascripts but the ones I have found have to do with the "remember me" and thats not quite what I want. I tried to manipulate it but with no luck.

I'm setting up a fictitious shopping page which uses cookies to remember what a user has selected. The products are photographs that the user can select either framed or unframed versions and I'm trying to put a confirmation box if the user actually requests framed and unframed versions of the same photograph. The code I'm using actually worked before I tried to add this extra functionality but I can't work out how to test for this extra bit. Here's my code and it sets cookies with names as either lulworth01 for the unframed version or lulworth01f for the framed version. The bits that work are in black and my extra code for this test is in red.
function getCookie(name){
var index = cart.indexOf(name + "=");
if(index == -1)
return null;
index = cart.indexOf("=", index) +1;
var endstr = cart.indexOf(";",index);
if (endstr == -1) endstr = cart.length;
return unescape(cart.substring(index, endstr));
} function setCookie(name) {
if ((name.charAt(name.length-1)='f') && (getCookie(name.substring(0,10))!=null)) {
confirm("You seem to have placed orders for both a mounted and framed image of the same photograph.
Is that OK?");
} else {
alert("Thank you.
Your basket has been updated.");
x=parseInt(getCookie(name)) || 0;
y=x+1;
var today = new Date();
var expiry = new Date(today.getTime()+28*24*60*60*1000); // plus 28 days
document.cookie=name+"="+y+";expires="+expiry.toGMTString();
cart = document.cookie;
}}

Is there something that will update as soon as the user changes information in a textbox as appose to what onChange does, which is update once the focus has been taken off of the textbox? I am writing a custom cart and I am using AJAX to update the price according to how many they are ordering, I was hoping to have it update the price as soon as the user put in the volume, but it doesnt update until the user clicks somewhere else on the page.

I'm creating an AJAX user validation so that when a user types in a username, it checks it in the database to see if it exists. I want it to execute after the user finishes typing. I've tried using:
$("#username_field").keyup(function(){
which works, but I don't want a query executed every time the users presses a key. I was wondering if there was a better way to do it. Meaning I what the check to be preformed after the user finishes typing.

I have read all posts about how to detect that url have changed to new
page and trigger the event handler then eg.
function aidLogout(evt) {
if(evt) {
/* maybe via analyse of evt object i can detect the close of the
browser window */
}
if(window.event) {
/* maybe via analyse of window.event object i can detect the close of
the browser window */
}
var i = new Image();
i.src = "aidlogout.asp?uid=1562&SessionID=ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP"
} /* assuming that aidlogout.asp will return nothing or empty image */
window.unload = aidLogout;
/* or via
if(window.addEventListener) {
window.addEventListener("unload", aidLogout, false);
} else
if(window.attachEvent) {
window.attachEvent("unload", aidLogout);
}
PS i know about super Gecko onclose event which fires when browser
window is closed, but i could not find such method in IE.
