Set A Cookie When User Enters A Page?
May 22, 2010
I'm trying to set a cookie when a user enters a page. The cookie is for youtube to make videos default to widescreeen.
I know that the cookie name is wide, the value should be set to 1, the domain should be .youtube.com but I dont know how to do it properly. Ive been trying to set it from a link, so when a user clicks the link and it opens in a frame, the cookie is set so that the youtube video opens as widescreen in the frame.
however, whenever I look at my list of cookies, it isnt being created.
is this the best way to do this?
(I found how the cookie is created by checking the values of the cookies when I pressed the 'right turn' arrow on a youtube video)

User enters integer values into an editable gridview. JS is meant to keep a running total in the gridview footer template while user enters the values. User clicks 'Save' button. The values are saved to database table.
Problems:
1. JS does not keep a running total if there is already values saved in a database table. (Explaination: If user clicks 'select all', the previously added values are loaded. Can edit these and running total works. But, if user is entering numbers for the first time into a blank editable gridview, the js does not work).
2. Cannot access label in gridview footer template. 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'. If label is placed in normal gridview row, it is fine. However, it needs to be in the footer.
javascript function
Meant to be in footer template but placed in normal row for now:

I am working on a online video portal build on flash/actionScript.
If I enter a url of a video when another video is playing, it doesn't playing the new video but it keeps on playing the old video. The reason I think is as it is a RIA, it doesn't refreshes the page and looks for a flash object and its already cached so it doesn't makes any http request in order to play the new video.
So I am planning to claer the cache.
how to clear the cache when a user enters something in address bar and press enter key?

On one of my sites, I have a reather involved page (searchable map).
When the person leaves the page then all the AJAX generated
information is lost. Is there a way that I can retain all this data
in a cookie or so or how would you recommend I saved all the users
information (perhaps using a database on the serverside).

I have a HTML form containing two text box controls in it and a submit button. When a user enters information in those two textboxes and click on submit, the information is sent to a function in Javascript. In the javascript, the information from those textboxes is stored in a javascript variable. The problem is as follows:When I am inputting string text in the html text boxes and in the javascript when I am trying to print those values, it is giving me out an error saying NaN. However when i input integer values in the text boxes it is printing those numbers. Is there a conversion that I have to do for the string to be printed. I am new to Javascript and need your help. This is a basic code of Javascript. Below is the code that I have.

is there a "javascript" way to enable cookie memory to whatever a user does. for example, if the user wants to edit something and then save it and the cookie will memorize it even if they clear cookies??

I am currently building a site with a landing page. I would like to add a cookie or some kind of script that detects if the user is returning and skips the homepage to go straight into the site whenever they return.
It would be good if I could apply this script to multiple pages with different names.
Cookies are not my forte so I don't know where to start looking. Googling hasn't done much for me so far, can anyone point me in the direction of a page that explains how to do this?!

I'm having a few problems with this script:
- the third text input in the form is requesting for the user's favorite color. I need it to validate the data to either be a defined color or a hexadecimal value and then turn the background into that color upon submission. However, it's not validating correctly... When a correct value is entered it works fine, it's the error message for an invalid entry that's not appearing.
- I need to save all of the user's input into a cookie which will automatically load their preferences the next time they visit the site(time of day message, first & last name and bg color).
Here's what I have so far:
Code:
<html>
<head>
<script language="javascript">

I've got the following code snippet in a function to set a coockie based on whether or not the user selects a checkbox. Using an alert the cookie text looks fine but when I go to retrieve the values the only one it can find is the value for user. I've a few different things and none of them seem to work. I'm getting the same thing in both IE and Firefox. The only cookie listed is the 'user' with the proper expiration date. Code:

I have a website with five links, each with its own id. onClick I would like to create a cookie for the user that adds the link id that they have clicked.I am planning to do this using an array, however, I am a bit confused about the theroy behind a cookie.It is just a text file that can hold any data correct? So I could store an array with
array[0] = hi.html
array[1] = hello.html
and later on pull up what is in array[0] to diplay it on the page? Can I do this with one cookie or would I need a new cookie for each link?

I'm trying to set a cookie when a user clicks a hyper link.
Do you think I should prevent the default behavior of pressing a link first, and then set the cookie?
Or could I just set the cookie on a hyper link click event, and hope the client sets the cookie, before they are directed to another page.

I'm using a version of the tab system shown here: URL... and I was wondering how I would go about a couple of things...
1) When the tab loads, bring it to the foreground
2) If someone enters a tab title that already exists, then load that tab rather than creating a new one.

I'm not very good with Javascript so I need you help for page on my website. Basically what I need to do is to make a DIV shown only first time someone visits page, and then when he/she revisit it I want that same DIV hidden, and I want it hidden for next 24 hours... so in that way DIV would be shown only once a day, and only on first page load.
So to make that happen I need to do fallowing, and I would need your help for that: I need a script that on a page load checks if cookie (which is 24h cookie) is set, if it is then it should hide that DIV, if it is not set then it should set it, so that DIV would be hidden on next page load..

I am absolute javascipt newbie so please threat me like that I need the following functionality to my webpage: Let's say I have a div with some unique ID on my page. Now, what I need is to show this div on my page only the first time visitor opens a page, and then not show it every next time he/she opens it for next 24h.
So I need to set a cookie that hides div from page if it has already been shown to visitor, for next 24h,so that the content of this div will be shown to each unique visitor only once for a day.
