Refresh A Webpage Using A Event From Another Page?
Oct 21, 2011
I thought this will be a simple question, but it seen like hard to find a fast and simple solution. I am working on an online sign in tool. Two browser windows are open at the same time. One is for people to sign in with password and submit their information; another one is for Administrator to see who sign in. I am trying to refresh the Administrator page whenever user finished sign in and submitted their information. These two pages cannot be parent and child page. What will be the easiest way to solve this in ColdFusion or JavaScript?
i am trying to have the content of a txt file loaded in a page (which works), but this file changes on a regular basis and I need just the text to refreash, not the whole page, this is what I have... As mentioned, it correctly displayes the content of the .txt file, but from the code I have, I need it to refresh
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head>
I'm embarking on a new project - although I've hit a wall.
I require a page to refresh at a scheduled date and time, several times a day.
For example, I would like the web page to reload the index at 3:15PM
So if anyone has the web page open during that time, it will automatically refresh for them.
Timing is quite important so I would need the script to use the server (hosts) time and not the end users time.
I am currently deciding on which server language to use, although Javascript is probably a suitable option? or would ajax be more the thing for this?
The webpage must execute the refresh at the time 3:15pm, so no matter when someone visits the page, even if its hours before, it must refresh at that time.
If anyone has any pointers on the best way to achieve this and what language to start with I am forever greatful
I do a lot of image design work and although I have worked with a few coders in the past but I haven't gone too much into coding myself, but its something I'm going to take time to learn and get involved in, so I'm not looking for script hand outs here, mainly just a nudge in the right direction.
this is the code snippet that i use in the buttons tag of jquery ui. reassign.php updates the records in my database as I want it and I can see the changes reflected in phpmyadmin. However, after the page refreshes (after location.reload()) , the changed values are not reflected in my webpage. even manually refreshing it doesnt work. when I manually changed the table values in PHPMyAdmin, the changes were reflected in the main page.
I got this problem with live() event.I have used it as follows.
$(".addressDiv span").live("mouseover", function(){ //clickable function here...... ------------------------ });
I have used the live() event to trigger the function on mouseover in the dynamically added elements. But the problem i got is that once the live event is called it takes the class of the element and stores. And when the class of that particular element is changed dynamically the live() event does not detect the new classed added dynamically, instead it takes the former class. Live() event does not update the class.

I am a visual designer that can usually install pre written code without to much difficulty. And, indeed I have installed FancyBox
I am working with a dynamically generated page written in ColdFusion. Three divs on the page contain FancyBox links that open editing screens. Once editing is complete and the user closes the FancyBox modal the changes need to be reflected on the parent page.
Right, so I was able to find a solution that refreshes the entire page
to refresh the entire parent page. But, that causes a browser prompt that is confusing to users and a bit of over kill as I really only need the information edited to refresh.
How, oh how can I get just a single div to refresh "onClosed" as apposed to the entire page?
I have some half-working script I'm playing with that I half-understand (this is the real problem) which I'm having troube debugging because it always does work when I refresh. So whenever I step through my functions with Firebug everything does what I expect it to do: but if then I re-invoke my onchange event, not every step is taken and it's hard to see why because I can't "see" what it's doing after the page has loaded and the script run at least once. This is for hide-and-show in a form and all the other versions I see online are even less understandable than what I've got so far. So I figure I'd better debug the one I have.Anyone know how to re-watch a script onevent?
Our company own a lot of domains and want to put a short page of copy on each address along with keywords before redirecting the user to our main site. I have been able to get the page to load the main site after the desired time using this code in the head...
That works perfectly, I am now trying to display a countdown timer from 40 seconds down to 0, and on 0 redirect the user. Saying something like "You will be redirected in XX seconds". Is there anyway of doing this? I've been searching google for the answers with no luck and can only seem to find timers that countdown to a set date.

is there a way to rid of the page header (usually it's the page title and url) and the page footer (usually it's the page number and date) without having user to change from the web browser's the page setup ?
Can this be done using javascript or just html meta tags?
Also we control the contents of what is printed from a web page without having to redirect the page? Example, I have three paragraphs on a web page and I don't want the middle paragraph to be printed.
It launches in IE and give the user instructions, then at the click of a button, launches my setup.exe. I want my webpage to launch setup.exe then go to another webpage on my CD, congratulations.html, which says "installation is complete etc". Here's what I am trying to do through JAvascript. It doesn't work. Should the first instruction be flushed in order for the 2nd one to work?
