I've run into a roadblock I just can't seem to get past. I'm developing a website for work (internal) and I have a lot of javascript calculations going on when someone enters data. What I want to do is to have a div apear when it begins calculating and goes away when it ends. I'm using:

It works great in firefox. The div display appropriately, calculates, then disappears when it's finished. However, in IE it seems to want to calculate everything before anything is displayed. I placed alerts in the code to be able to pause it mid way and it worked. But without alerts it just hangs while everything is being calculated and the code for the loading screen just seems to cancel itself out. I attempted to put some waits in the code such as:
I'm using mooflow code on my website, problem is that it shows images on top of one another, before script arranges them to row. This only happens with explorer.
You can see example of the images popping up (and scroll bar flashing on the side of the page), when this page is loading on explorer, [URL]
Could there be some solution for the explorer so it wouldn't load images before executing the script? Other browsers work better with the loading order.

I want to execute server code invoked from inside Javascript code.
I will have my server code in a servlet, callable with a URL, but how do I invoke the servlet from Javascript without reloading the page and not opening any window? I mean, I don't want to display the HTML result of this request.
For 2 day ago, i have re-read and re-write my code in first i have very very broken code execution in web in second :, i re write the code and in previewer browser ( i use mozilla 3.6.8) its work off line, but when i have implanting in web page, its not work, in 3rd, with mr.airshow support i have rewrite and it work on web page (thanks mr. airshow) but still in my mind, again :
Question :
1. Why the 2nd code can not execution in web page ?
2. How the code must be to load in web page ? Any rules ?
I am having some difficulties getting some inline js code to run when retrieved via AJAX by XMLHTTPRequest.
Basically I am running a php script every 15 secs or so that does a query of a mysql database, checks to see if any new chat requests have been sent to the user, and if so, it is simply returning them via a "echo" statement, and the info is placed into a DIV in my sidebar.
Now when I add something in like: <script type="text/javascript"> alert('you have a chat request'); </script>
it runs if i go ahed and run the script by itself, i get the chat requests and the alert to popup. When the script is called via AJAX and loaded into the div, I get the message from the mysql query about chat info, but no javascript alert.
Am i just missing something stupid here? Like I said, it works when I run the script by itself, just not when called via XMLHTTPRequest.
I have an asp.net web application which includes jquery plugins and runs very well locally( ie using ASP.NET development server) but when deployed or published to IIS 5.0 the same is not working. Is there anything to do with jQuery not supporting IIS5.0 and ASP.NET 2.0.
I am doing a simple function to validate text fields(you can see the code below). Now, the alert box appears only once when I refresh the page, not when I click inside or outside the username box. #username is the id of a input text field. On a sidenote, how can I pass multiple parameters to the function(not a fixed number of params)? or should I just pass an array?
I'm working on a simple slideshow made with jQuery. What I'm trying to do now, is to make it change image every X second. I know how to change image, but i'm kind of stuck trying to find out how to make it "do something" every Xth second.
Here's an example: (obviously not working..) function slideSwitch() { //change image... } setInterval(slideSwitch, 5000); //make the function slideSwitch execute every 5th second.

I am an asp.net developer and I wanted to display user popup (kind of) which freezes the screen so that user won't click anything else on the screen. There are some predefined controls in asp.net, but I wanted do this using Javascript.
I have a basic page which has a PHP form. It creates a record and uploads a picture. When they user clicks submit, I need it to display a "loading" notice of some description. I was using this:

and then placed a div in the page but it shows the message right at the top of the screen. As the form is long, the user cannot see the message. I need to create some sort of notice so users know the form is being processed.
This might be a combo Javascript / CSS question I'm building a website, and I'm wanting to have small, approx 100px x 100px pop up display that has a "page loading" spinning gif. I also want the page to fade out while this image is displayed. For instance, someone submits a form that takes 3-4 seconds to load. Once they hit submit, the screen darkens, the new window comes into focus, center of screen, and it has some kind of rotating gif, basically a trigger 'on submit'..
I have the following code which screen scrapes a page (e.g. [url]) and inserts a new field if certain conditions are met (viz. the first ISSN line read meets the "peerreviewed = 'Y'" criteria). However, the code does 3 run-throughs each and every time and results in 2 new fields, not one, being inserted if the conditions are met.
I'm building some forms, and when they are submitted, I'd like to integrate a method that will fade out the screen a bit, and show an animated "processing" .gif. Basically when the "submit" button is pressed, the form is being submitted to it's destination. The page will hang on the form until the next page is ready to load. While it's hanging there after submitting, I'd like the screen to fade out, and display an image in the center of the screen. I'm hoping this can be achieved with CSS, as I try to use as little Javascript as possible.What's the best way to achieve this? I figure if anything a javascript "onsubmit" function will be a good start. Can the screen be faded with CSS?
want to learn javascript and i'm using ubuntu 9.04.i have google chrome and fire fox with enabled javascript. All things are good but when i write a js file and open it in browser but nothing happening html code loads but js not any hint why .
i want to postload javscript from another javascript. This works fine in firefox and IE6 for macIE i can use an Iframe to load the code and inject it with insertAdjacentHTML The problems arise with safari and opera. Both load the new code with XMLHttpRequest, but the code is no 'executable'
To make this possible on IE i had to use the magic 'DEFER' attribute. (Sync or Async ist not the issue)
As we all know, JavaScript is client side and php is server side, (the php code is 'allowed' to do stuff on the server that JavaScript cannot). The problem with php is that it timeout after a while, (and the user also has no clue as to what is going on for a long time).
I need to run a script on the server that could take a very long time.
So what I was thinking is mixing both JavaScript and PHP Something like,

That way the server does the work, while the client keeps it going. Ideally I would also get a return value/string from the php script.
The thing is that I would like to stop pop-over (optin form) from loading on some pages (squeeze page,review pages etc.) and can't find a way to do that. We are talking about wordpress blog here... Is there a some kind of script or code I can use? Should be, it's not a rocket science. Just want to kill the process on some pages...I'm using popup domination [URL].
I recently found a really nice code that centers a page vertically: [URL].. What I like about it, is that when you zoom in with Chrome, nothing gets cut off. Normally other codes for centering will zoom straight into the middle, and cut off content on the left. The only problem I'm having with it, is that when the page loads in Chrome and Safari, it starts to load at the top of the page, and then quickly jumps down to where it's centered. It looks a little choppy when you're navigating through many pages. I'm wondering if there's a way to get it to load in the correct position where it will stay?
