This is my first message and I am extremely new to jQuery. I am using Ajax to call external html pages into a div in my site. I have three external html forms which uses JavaScript and one .file. When I call these pages, the html pages are being rendered correctly but the JavaScript and .pl file (form post) is not being executed. Any ideas on how to resolve?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling with a cross browser solution to loading
external javascript files on the fly.
I have been successful using the following code in IE6:
var newScr = document.createElement("SCRIPT");
newScr.src = "newScr.js";
newScr.type="text/javascript";
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(newScr);
I believe the reason is that IE is loading the external file
syncronously while Firefox is not. Is there an onload event for
creating an element (if so I do not see it in Venkman). I have seen the
solution of using XMLHTTP to load the script but I am trying to get
around any dependency (atleast at this stage of the library) on
activex.
I came up with some code to load javascript files dynamically. But I've got problems..
When the script element is dynamically added to the head section of html, i think that the document.ready event fires once again and therefore the code sort of runs twice.
In the html page I call this method:
In the script test.js I have the function SayHi():
The SayHi method never gets called and alert('begin') & alert('getScript') get called twice in this sequence:begin begin getScript getScript.
I have a c program and I need to call method in the program from a javascript file. is it possible.Another question which I have is whether it is possible to import other js files in a js file (in order to segment code into differnt files not all in one file)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've run into a roadblock I just can't seem to get past. I'm developing a website for work (internal) and I have a lot of javascript calculations going on when someone enters data. What I want to do is to have a div apear when it begins calculating and goes away when it ends. I'm using:
// CSS code
div.loading-invisible{ display: none; }
div.loading-visible { display: block; ... various formatting here ... }
// Javascript
function calculate(evalForm) {
document.getElementById("loading").className = "loading-visible";
[Code]...
It works great in firefox. The div display appropriately, calculates, then disappears when it's finished. However, in IE it seems to want to calculate everything before anything is displayed. I placed alerts in the code to be able to pause it mid way and it worked. But without alerts it just hangs while everything is being calculated and the code for the loading screen just seems to cancel itself out. I attempted to put some waits in the code such as:

I'm using mooflow code on my website, problem is that it shows images on top of one another, before script arranges them to row. This only happens with explorer.
You can see example of the images popping up (and scroll bar flashing on the side of the page), when this page is loading on explorer, [URL]
Could there be some solution for the explorer so it wouldn't load images before executing the script? Other browsers work better with the loading order.
I am trying to load image and display other stuff dynamically, but I am having a hard time with it.How can I find out "span class" on the code below?what exactly defines "this"? and how can I access its contents?
<span class="PY4AAA">
<a title="" target="_blank" class="callsign" href="/qrz/PY4AQ">
<img src="/img/f/br.gif"> PY4AAA</a>
[code]....
The problem is, I might want to change the html I include based upon variables passed between web pages.My problem is I don't know how to include html files in html files using javascript! How would you do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.
The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.
After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.
The current code is:
CSS for the loading DIV is:
A working link is [url]
is it possible to load .js files conditionally? suppose i have a.js b.js c.js
and then inside a table y have a drop down box that has A B C
I want to be able to load a.js if I select A, b.js if I select B and c.js if I select C.
I'm using the asynchronous example from [URL] to load a backup jQuery CDN if the main Google fails or goes undefined for some reason. The default script loads the backup (ASPNET CDN) but if I want to add a local copy backup to the ASPNET CDN, it will not load if the ASPNET CDN is down. I tried different variations with no success. Here is the code:
Code JavaScript:
// Setup backups
var jqbackup1 = '//ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-1.4.4.min.js';
var jqbackup2 = '/js/jquery-1.4.4.min.js';
// Setup getScript function
function getScript(url, success) {
[Code]...
now im loading css files in that way:
$('head').append('<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="' + file + '">');
after i need to work with values from this css file.
For example i need to get the width and height of one of element and to put it in another:
$('#myContainer').css({
width: $('#anotherContainer').width(),
height: $('#anotherContainer').height(),
});
so...the problem is that my javascript code is executed before the new css file are successfully loaded...and script goes to get wrong values
is it possible to fix?...or exists another ways to load css filessyncronously???
I'm actually doing a firefox extension in which i would like to implement the jWebsocket API in order to build a small chat. I got my main script file, named test.js, and the jWebsocket lib into a js folder. Just for you to know, this is my first firefox extension ever. So in my XUL file I got this :

I'm working at a college in Michigan and we have an issue with the files not loading correctly for our website. The issue appears to be a javascript problem. When I try to access a page, it will load, but the javascript functions for instance will show up on the page as if it is just html text. So I right-clicked the page, clicked "view source" and when the source code for the file opens up it shows the javascript portion in the head section as:
<disabled-script type="disabled-text/javascript">
function somefunction(){}
</disabled-script>
However, the code I have in the file of course is written as:
<script type="text/javascript">
function somefunction() {}
</script>
I do not have javascript disabled on my browser or anything, so that is not the issue. For some reason it appears it is getting disabled though on page load.
The application I'm debugging is throwing a very general jquery error (H is undefined) based on my obfuscated js file. There are jquery methods in this file. The file has been tested and is used successfully in other applications. I noticed the application that throws the error is loading two versions of jquery:
jquery-1.4.2.js and jquery-obf-1.4.2.cache.js
Typically our applications only load the obfuscated version of jquery. if loading 2 versions of JQuery into a page could cause the confliction I'm seeing?
I am using an ASP.NET AJAX control (ValidatorCallout) that requires
client-side validation to work with a custom validator I added. This
is an example of some code that works:
<asp:CustomValidator ID="CV_PartNumberExists" runat="server"
ClientValidationFunction="CheckPrime"
ControlToValidate="PartNumberText" ErrorMessage="b><br />A Part
Number is required."></asp:CustomValidator>
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
function CheckPrime(sender, args)
{
var iPrime = parseInt(args.Value);
var iSqrt = parseInt(Math.sqrt(iPrime));
for (var iLoop=2; iLoop<=iSqrt; iLoop++)
if (iPrime % iLoop == 0)
{
args.IsValid = false;
return;
}
args.IsValid = true;
}
This is code I borrowed from another site to test this method - and it
works. My problem is that I need the JS to execute a VB function in
my project and I don't know how to do that. I want to do something
like:
function CheckValue(sender, args)
{
var sPartnumber = String(args.Value);
if FindExistingPN(sPartNumber)
{
args.IsValid = false;
return;
}
args.IsValid = true;
}
....where FindExistingPN is a funciton in my VB class. I have seen
some other posts about this, but none of them really gave me any
sample code that I could run. As I mentioned earlier, my JS skills
are lacking, so I am unable to create this myself.
Here's what I'd like to do using pure JavaScript and HTML (no Ajax or PHP): My website loads different JavaScript files dynamically which contain a bunch of data, that I will display on the website. The dynamical loading function is placed in the <HEAD> and looks like that:
Code:
function loadJsFile(filename){
console.log("loading js file")
var fileref=document.createElement('script')
fileref.setAttribute("type","text/javascript")
fileref.setAttribute("src", filename)
fileref.onload = dataIsLoaded;
if (typeof fileref!="undefined"){
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(fileref)
}}
The dataIsLoaded method in there is a callback that is triggered when the JavaScript file has been loaded:
Code:
function dataIsLoaded(){
console.log("loading js file done")
dataLoaded = true;
data = new Data();
}
DataLoaded is simply a global boolean that is per default false and the 'data' variable contains all the data I want to display on my site. While the JavaScript file is being loaded, the browser continues building the site. When it gets to the <body> that wants to access some information from the data variable, I get the unsurprising error that 'data' is undefined. I looked for a way to wait until 'data' is defined and then continue with building the <body> but couldn't find a solution.
Alternatively I wanted to reload the divs in the <body> when the 'data' is available:
Code:
function reloadDivs(){
if(dataLoaded){
console.log("data available, reloading divs");
document.getElementById('someDiv').innerHTML = document.getElementById('someDiv').innerHTML
}else{
console.log("data is not yet available");
setTimeout('loadReportData();', 500);
}}
This does not work, I get a blank div when I do that.
I'm trying to execute a bat file on the server in javascript. The javascript sits on the server as well. I'm currently using:
document.location.href='testme.bat'
However the only thing it does is just opens up the bat file and shows my bat code in the browser. How can I execute the batch file instead of opening it and viewing it in the browser?
I'm starting to use JQuery ajax and am seeing a second-2 delay in the loading of a line of text when I click on the link.
Here is the JQuery code
Content should load when the slideUp is done but it normally doesn't change the content till halfway through the slide down because of the delay.
I've tried without the slideup/down but it still has this delay.
The content to load is at most 8 words.
For some god-forsaken reason (which I can't find out either) MSIE
stopped executing any JavaScripts. In any page which contains
JavaScript code, that code won't be executed. There are no error
messages, no warnings, nothing. It simply does'nt work. I'm pretty sure
this could be caused by some stupid installation of another program
that messed up some IE settings.
Security settings for IE are all lowered down. Everything is activated
(Scripts, ActiveX, automatic download of anything, anytime)... so we
ran out of ideas of what could be the problem. And yes, we have also
tried to reinstall IE.
The only clue we have is that a local Administrator user can change IT
security settings for himself and (go figure) things work fine! The
problem occurs with users that have limted access to the computer and I
am pretty sure this shouldn't happen. If you are wondering... yes...
the local administrator has already tried to change the settings for
limited user account..
I have a select dropdown and 5 text fields. based on the option
selected (which are the units - cm/mm/inches/ft/yard etc), i change
the values in the text fields using javascript to the corresponding
units.
my problem is that when the options are selected very quickly(for eg
using the keyboard's up/down keys) then quickly, the text field values
lose their connection with the select box and the values become
illegal.
I suspect that the javascript function is being called even before the
earlier execution has not terminated. I tried using a global variable and using it as a lock, but still no success.
Is there some way from preventing the JavaScript code in a document loaded into an iframe from executing? I don't have access to the pages being loaded into the i-frame so I can't modify then. They are being loaded from a server.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat I am trying to do is dynamically update an image and image map on
a page. I'd like the update to happen as quickly as possible and be
done without refreshing the page. The catch is that the image map uses
the wz_tooltip.js (http://www.walterzorn.com/tooltip/tooltip_e.htm)
library to display a JavaScript tooltip containing detailed information
about different areas of the image. So, when I pass the required
<script> tags via .innerHTML, the browser treats it as text and does
not interpret the JavaScript and execute the code.
My code looks something like this:
I have an application in the form of "*.exe" file and i need to
execute this and evaluate the returned values within Javascript.
Is this possible ?
Is it possible to execute a JS function in a website, by using the JS console? Facebook has a function Facebook.streamPublish() for instance, which displays a dialog box to send a story to your Wall.Is it possible to call this from the JS console manually?I'm developing a Facebook application. I tried to call the above function from the Firebug console to test but with no success.
