JQuery :: Loading Files - Script Element Is Dynamically Added To The Head Section Of Html

Feb 6, 2010

I came up with some code to load javascript files dynamically. But I've got problems..

When the script element is dynamically added to the head section of html, i think that the document.ready event fires once again and therefore the code sort of runs twice.

In the html page I call this method:

In the script test.js I have the function SayHi():

The SayHi method never gets called and alert('begin') & alert('getScript') get called twice in this sequence:begin begin getScript getScript.

JQuery :: Get Value Of A Dynamically Added Element?

May 11, 2010

I've found a few posts on adding an event to a dynamic element, but that doesn't really help me. What I'm doing is allowing the user to add a textbox, then when a button is clicked i need to find the value for that text box, but it doesn't seem to pick up that the textbox is there.

Oh and that textbox is part of an array of textboxes, all of whose values i need.

JQuery :: Retrieve Id Of Dynamically Added Element?

Jun 14, 2011

I have the following html:

<div id = "container"></div>
<div id = 'containerItemTmplt' class = "ui-widget-content">
<div class='contentHdr' onclick="test(this)" />
</div>

i then use jquery to clone 'containerItemTmplt' and add it to 'container':

var copiedElem = $('#containerItemTmplt').clone(true).
.attr('id', 'paneI1')
.appendTo('#container');

This works great and i confirm using I.E. 9's developer's tool utility that the element was indeed added with the correct id as a child of 'container'.

However in my test method, when i inspect the element that was copied, the id attribute is an empty string:

function test(elem)
{
var parentItem= $(elem).closest('div')[0];
alert(parentItem.id); //<--this displays an empty string despite
}

JQuery :: Get ID Of Dynamically Added HTML Elements?

Aug 16, 2010

I am generating HTML based on user actions (in this case, populating a table with the result from AJAX calls).

In my context, I have a link where there is a Quantity field, which I would like to be editable. When I create the html, I give a unique ID to each row, (to reference to a JSON object), however I am unable to get the ID for said row, seeing as the DOM tree is parsed on the pageload and doesn't seem to update when I add elements to the page.

This means that $(this).parent('tr').attr('id') is not returning anything at all.

How would I make it so I can retrieve the ID of my row (which was created/added to the page after it was parsed)?

JQuery :: Dynamically Added Element Cannot Be Removed / Solve This?

In my application I render a couple of elements dynamically after the user selects an option in a dropdown list. When the user selects another option in the dropdown, I want to remove all the previous elements that was added dynamically. I've tried with the .Remove() function, but it seems the elements cannot be found in the DOM. I've looked a lot at the .live() events. Does anyone now how I can solve this?

Dynamically Loading External Javascript Files.

Apr 14, 2006

I have been struggling with a cross browser solution to loading
external javascript files on the fly.

I have been successful using the following code in IE6:

var newScr = document.createElement("SCRIPT");
newScr.src = "newScr.js";
newScr.type="text/javascript";
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(newScr);

I believe the reason is that IE is loading the external file
syncronously while Firefox is not. Is there an onload event for
creating an element (if so I do not see it in Venkman). I have seen the
solution of using XMLHTTP to load the script but I am trying to get
around any dependency (atleast at this stage of the library) on
activex.

Dynamically Loading Files Containing Bunch Of Data

Apr 28, 2011

Here's what I'd like to do using pure JavaScript and HTML (no Ajax or PHP): My website loads different JavaScript files dynamically which contain a bunch of data, that I will display on the website. The dynamical loading function is placed in the <HEAD> and looks like that:

Code:
function loadJsFile(filename){
console.log("loading js file")
var fileref=document.createElement('script')
fileref.setAttribute("type","text/javascript")
fileref.setAttribute("src", filename)
fileref.onload = dataIsLoaded;
if (typeof fileref!="undefined"){
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(fileref)
}}

The dataIsLoaded method in there is a callback that is triggered when the JavaScript file has been loaded:
Code:
function dataIsLoaded(){
console.log("loading js file done")
dataLoaded = true;
data = new Data();
}

DataLoaded is simply a global boolean that is per default false and the 'data' variable contains all the data I want to display on my site. While the JavaScript file is being loaded, the browser continues building the site. When it gets to the <body> that wants to access some information from the data variable, I get the unsurprising error that 'data' is undefined. I looked for a way to wait until 'data' is defined and then continue with building the <body> but couldn't find a solution.

Alternatively I wanted to reload the divs in the <body> when the 'data' is available:
Code:
function reloadDivs(){
if(dataLoaded){
console.log("data available, reloading divs");
document.getElementById('someDiv').innerHTML = document.getElementById('someDiv').innerHTML
}else{
console.log("data is not yet available");
setTimeout('loadReportData();', 500);
}}
This does not work, I get a blank div when I do that.

JQuery :: Load Part Of PageB With Ajax Into PageA With Head Section

Sep 4, 2011

When you load part of pageB with ajax into pageA, what happen with the head section (title, meta, css link and script link...)

I mean, what is the best practice when you insert into the DOM a part of pageB with all the code (title, meta, etc...) that is associated with pageB. (initially i was inserting the whole pageB because of "gracefull degradation", but this inserts the whole pageB DOM into the pageA DOM).

Can't Grab Value From Dynamically Added Form Element?

May 1, 2011

I am selecting an image as part of a html form. Once selected, jQuery assigns a user-defined attribute of the image to a hidden form variable and passes it to form handler. Problem is when I dynamically add images that can be selected. I am using live function to ensure that the dynamically added image is highlighted when clicked - but the user-defined attribute is not being grabbed by jQuery.

I think that when the page is first loaded, all the existing image attributes are loaded into the DOM, but when extra images are added with ajax, the DOM doesn't have the new attribute values, despite them appearing in the html on the page. I don't think I can use the live function in this instance, because an attribute is not an event. Out of ideas now. HTML/PHP, with jQuery:

Do <script Tags Have To Appear In <head Section?

Oct 11, 2007

I have a website running in .net, that has a load of these in the <head section of the default.aspx page, which bumps the page size up to 371kb. However, many of these are only used

This is the sort of thing I am talking about:

Writing HTML In The <head></head> Of A Page With JS?

Dec 16, 2011

I know this can be done with media-queries in CSS3, After attaching the jQuery library, I used js to get the width of the window browser-viewport) and store that in a variable.

What I was aiming to do was write a <title></title> for the page and attach a stylesheet through <link /> using js only when the window's height was greater than 596px. So, I wrote the following:

Code HTML4Strict:
<!Doctype HTML>
<html lang="en">

<script type="text/javascript" src="../assets/js/jquery-1.5.1.min.js"></script>

JQuery :: Animation & Loading - Portfolio Section Doesn't Seem To Work?

Jul 1, 2009

My problem arises when I use this to access the portfolio section. The portfolio section doesn't seem to work. If you head over to http:[url]... , you can see how the section should render and how a person can use the scroll feature, however, when the content is loaded using jQuery, it doesn't function properly.Additionally another problem i'm realizing is the delay of the content. For example, if you are on the contact page and then click on downloads, the content will slide left and then slide back right when the content is loaded. However the problem i'm seeing is the delay in the content loading meaning that the animation will finish and the content will then load.A second or two delay. I've tested it in multiple browsers and seeing the same problem. Surprisingly the only browser i'm not seeing this in is IE6.
