want to learn javascript and i'm using ubuntu 9.04.i have google chrome and fire fox with enabled javascript. All things are good but when i write a js file and open it in browser but nothing happening html code loads but js not any hint why .
View 2 RepliesI have tested this on jQuery 1.2.6 and 1.3.2... After binding a form.submit event and returning false due to some logic, the second time the form is submitted, the event never executes and false is automatically used by the browser. Is this a browser bug vs a jQuery bug?

firefox and IE6 for macIE i can use an Iframe to load the code and inject it with insertAdjacentHTML The problems arise with safari and opera. Both load the new code with XMLHttpRequest, but the code is no 'executable'
To make this possible on IE i had to use the magic 'DEFER' attribute.

code is 'allowed' to do stuff on the server that JavaScript cannot).
The problem with php is that it timeout after a while, (and the user also
has no clue as to what is going on for a long time).
I need to run a script on the server that could take a very long time.
So what I was thinking is mixing both JavaScript and PHP
Something like,

I've run into a roadblock I just can't seem to get past. I'm developing a website for work (internal) and I have a lot of javascript calculations going on when someone enters data. What I want to do is to have a div apear when it begins calculating and goes away when it ends. I'm using:

It works great in firefox. The div display appropriately, calculates, then disappears when it's finished. However, in IE it seems to want to calculate everything before anything is displayed. I placed alerts in the code to be able to pause it mid way and it worked. But without alerts it just hangs while everything is being calculated and the code for the loading screen just seems to cancel itself out. I attempted to put some waits in the code such as:

The thing is that I would like to stop pop-over (optin form) from loading on some pages (squeeze page,review pages etc.) and can't find a way to do that. We are talking about wordpress blog here... Is there a some kind of script or code I can use? Should be, it's not a rocket science. Just want to kill the process on some pages...I'm using popup domination [URL].
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently found a really nice code that centers a page vertically: [URL].. What I like about it, is that when you zoom in with Chrome, nothing gets cut off. Normally other codes for centering will zoom straight into the middle, and cut off content on the left. The only problem I'm having with it, is that when the page loads in Chrome and Safari, it starts to load at the top of the page, and then quickly jumps down to where it's centered. It looks a little choppy when you're navigating through many pages. I'm wondering if there's a way to get it to load in the correct position where it will stay?

I am using this fancy box code to smoothly pop up an image on click, I got it working on my main index page but that's not where I want to put it. My site has a menu where it loads external webpages inside the main index one, I would like to use the code on one of those pages but something is not working.
I have been told its a DOCTYPE issue but I am not able to use the specified DOCTYPE, however I find that it works all the same with my current DOCTYPE choice. If I use the given one in addition to the one I use now (and need) then my site does not work properly, further if I replace it I get the same results.

I even tried using the exact code from the example in that linked .htm page but it doesn't make a difference, it probably even hinders the code as it looks at the main html page. However loading the page on its own the code will work, so its related to the menu and the way that works.

I have only started to learn HTML, CSS, and Javascript (roughly 2 weeks now). I am having a issues regarding when I submit form data to the server. I want to temporarily disable the 'submit' button while the browser is loading and then reactivate it once everything has finished loading. This was my attempt at doing this.

Im trying to add some simple display features to a web application and am running into some unexpected IE8 behavior. Basically, the app runs some database retrieval from the server using Ajax techniques, and during that time (say, 30 seconds), I want to just give the user a clue as to whats going on. It could be as simple as a wait cursor. More interesting, I prefer to unhide a div with an animated loading icon, then hide it again when loading is complete.

I have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.
The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.
After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.

I have a lot of javascript functions that request information from an iframe hidden on the page. I see other sites do this, but their browser does not do the loading action (like the processing circle in Firefox). When I do it on my site, each browser shows the loading icon, as if a page was loading. Is it possible to not have this?

It's working in all browsers but Safari, the script just doesn't seem to be loading, I get the loading scroller bars but they don't fully load. What is the best way to debug JS - is that the right term?
I have this loading.gif image that is 750px, when it should be 32px. The reason it's huge now is because my original solution was displaying two images: one 750px version of the loading.gif image and one 32px version (in the center of the 750px) of the same image. Now I'm at least down to one image, even if it's the wrong version.Click any of the thumbnail images here, and then again on the thumbnail at the top of that popup product gallery to see what I mean: need that huge loading.gif to be 32px like it should be, and then expand to 750px once the image is loaded. It's for a photo gallery like this http:[url].....php but the one I need it for has 100 images so the page loads much slower. I can't just put the loading gif behind the images (as you would normaly) because you can see it with each image fade in and out. how I can have a loading gif show "only" while the images are initially loading, and then it goes away?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a jQuery script that loads and displays a small window on a mouse hover. I use jQuery AJAX to load the content on that window. Having that, I noticed that loading the response from php file (which does not have a php code, only the file has .php on its name) is slower than the same file content with .html name. I wonder if this is a common problem or there is some issue with my codes. I will post my code if needed (if that seems to be the problem).Note: I mentioned that there is no php code in the php file because I am only testing the performance currently. After it is developed, there will be (obviously) php code in it.

Therefor I want some of loading image to be displayed while the page is loading. Anybody has an idea how to pull this of? I don't know how.
In detail: People come to my website. They click on "events" and a loading.gif pops up and and makes the background darker. After the page has completely loaded the loading image disappears and the website shows.

and in this code, it works, the call is made and text is added. in the other code I don't get a change at all. Not even in the database that add.php manipulates.
I am trying to make a gui for clients to edit a php page that displays html and javascript.
I want the user to be able to move html elements around and even edit it like add effects like fade in and out etc.
Then after all the changes I want to overwrite the existing php file that does this for that user. how can you make such changes and then save it to a file?
It's an html / javascript editor but using a gui instead of allowing them to directly touch the code. It would be a security risk if I allow such a thing. So I need to program a interface that would make such changes and save them to file.
Like how can you delete and add new javascript code to the file?

I have a routine that creates some HTML on the fly (updateFilters() function) and after the HTML is created, I attempt to access some fields (elements) on the form itself.
I works fine if I place an alert() statement after the HTML is created, but when I remove, the code errors out.
I have tried the setTimeout() statement, but I cannot grab the element --- undefined or null is returned. It seems that the form is the only element I can get a handle on --- everything else is undefined or null...

This works fine when I place this code under the html in the main source, but if I try to add this Jquery code to an external js sheet it doesnt seem to work?
Currently my js sheet is called in the header, when I move this link to the footer of my page the code works again, so Im guessing this has something to do with where the jquery code is placed in relation to the code Im trying to hide?
How I can keep my js in the header but still make the content disappear on click?
