In one of my web page I want to show an image preloader. ie When I clicked on the small thumbnail in my web page then the main large image will load. My code looks something like this
$("#images li").click(function(){
var image=this.href;
$("#mainImage").attr('src',image);
});
I want to show the Loading sign until the main image loads completely.

I am basically just practicing with javascript (Just started a few days ago) and wanted to create an array that pretty much checked a form for errors, listed errors, then spewed them out in the end. I am sure there is source code for something like this, but I wanted to just do this out of practice, as I have done this before in PHP. I am basically making a function with a bunch of if statements and if any of them pop up I try to PUSH a string into the array. Now, it has worked, somewhat and sometimes. But then it just plain stopped working. I played with the code for a while, placing alerts in parts of the function and found that it WAS the push code that stopped it from running completely.

I'm using ajax to store values from a form into MySQL. The form contains a text field named "title" and the method I'm using to fetch and pass on the data to the backend is shown below:
_data = "title=" + $( '#title' ).val();
$.ajax({
async: true,
type: "POST",
url: "backend.php",
dataType: "json",
data: _data,
success: function( json ) { .... }
}});
The method works fine for normal text, say "This is a sample text". However, if an ampersand is used in the title text (example: "This & That"), the post value is being truncated at the ampersand. In effect, the & in it is causing the string to be split up into two segments and the
part after the & is being treated as a variable,
i.e. instead of passing
title = This & That
What is being passed is,
title = This
That =
* as shown by Firebug

I need to open a new window(child) once the user clicks on the KPI(parent window) field on a Web page. I pass some parameters in the string. Problem is the KPI field can have the "&" ampersand character in it and the string thinks it is another parameter being sent. how I can get around this?

Pretty simple, I am sure. I have a small JS script, which is
function OpenSomething(input)
{
win3=window.open("some_file.php?info=" +
input,"mywin","width=500,height=600,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes");
return false;
}
The problem is that "input" comes from a text box, and can contain
ampersand.
All I need is to replace ampersand with %26, and do the same in PHP
(which I know how to do). But how do I do that in JS?

I have a function that takes the input from a text area, searches through the text, and should replace &, ", <, or > with &, <, etc. As the code is now, it will replace other characters, but runs into an infinite loop when dealing with ampersands.I'm thinking it's finding the ampersands from other things it has already replaced and trying to replace them over and over.how to improve this and break out of the loop?
Code:
<script language="javascript">
function replace(){[code].....
Here's a link to try it out, but the loop is infinite if you search for an & and may crash your browser.

I am so close to finishing this project and I stumbled upon this block...
<div class="line first">
<input type="text" value="0,00" class="nbr first">
<input type="text" value="" class="date">
<input type="text" value="" class="date2">
[Code]...
I have here two inputs with class nbr. The initial values are set, and those values change programmatically over time. My list of inputs is a lot longer than this but I simplified. You can see the work in progress on [URL]. Just insert two random dates in page1 with the datepicker and the navigation will appear. At the end of a series of calculation I need to grab all inputs with positive numbers, and all inputs with negative numbers.I was thinking of selecting all fields with nbr class first, then use .filter() with a function
edit: nevermind, I found it.
$('input.nbr.first').filter( function(){
if($(this).val().indexOf( "-" ) !== -1) {return true} else {return false}
} )

Is it possible to have the # sign somehow next to "gameid" in the function? It's triggered through a "onclick" link. Right now Safari and Chrome don't need the # sign but Firefox does. (not sure about IE)
<script type="text/javascript">
function gamenow(gameid){
$(gameid).css("opacity","0");
$(".game").slideUp("slow");
$(gameid).slideDown("slow");
$(gameid).toggle();
$(gameid).fadeTo("slow",1);
}
</script>

i want to postload javscript from another javascript. This works fine in
firefox and IE6 for macIE i can use an Iframe to load the code and inject it with insertAdjacentHTML The problems arise with safari and opera. Both load the new code with XMLHttpRequest, but the code is no 'executable'
To make this possible on IE i had to use the magic 'DEFER' attribute.
(Sync or Async ist not the issue)
This is a extract of the working code:

As we all know, JavaScript is client side and php is server side, (the php
code is 'allowed' to do stuff on the server that JavaScript cannot).
The problem with php is that it timeout after a while, (and the user also
has no clue as to what is going on for a long time).
I need to run a script on the server that could take a very long time.
So what I was thinking is mixing both JavaScript and PHP
Something like,
<script>
var endvalue = 1000; /* some number that the server can calculate
quickly */
var i = 0
while (i<=endvalue)
{
/**
call a php file that will do some work
somefunction.php?someNumber=i
*/
}
</script>
That way the server does the work, while the client keeps it going.
Ideally I would also get a return value/string from the php script.

I've run into a roadblock I just can't seem to get past. I'm developing a website for work (internal) and I have a lot of javascript calculations going on when someone enters data. What I want to do is to have a div apear when it begins calculating and goes away when it ends. I'm using:
// CSS code
div.loading-invisible{ display: none; }
div.loading-visible { display: block; ... various formatting here ... }
// Javascript
function calculate(evalForm) {
document.getElementById("loading").className = "loading-visible";
[Code]...
It works great in firefox. The div display appropriately, calculates, then disappears when it's finished. However, in IE it seems to want to calculate everything before anything is displayed. I placed alerts in the code to be able to pause it mid way and it worked. But without alerts it just hangs while everything is being calculated and the code for the loading screen just seems to cancel itself out. I attempted to put some waits in the code such as:

I recently found a really nice code that centers a page vertically: [URL].. What I like about it, is that when you zoom in with Chrome, nothing gets cut off. Normally other codes for centering will zoom straight into the middle, and cut off content on the left. The only problem I'm having with it, is that when the page loads in Chrome and Safari, it starts to load at the top of the page, and then quickly jumps down to where it's centered. It looks a little choppy when you're navigating through many pages. I'm wondering if there's a way to get it to load in the correct position where it will stay?

I am using this fancy box code to smoothly pop up an image on click, I got it working on my main index page but that's not where I want to put it. My site has a menu where it loads external webpages inside the main index one, I would like to use the code on one of those pages but something is not working.
I have been told its a DOCTYPE issue but I am not able to use the specified DOCTYPE, however I find that it works all the same with my current DOCTYPE choice. If I use the given one in addition to the one I use now (and need) then my site does not work properly, further if I replace it I get the same results.
My existing doctype:
Code:
<DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
[Code]....
I even tried using the exact code from the example in that linked .htm page but it doesn't make a difference, it probably even hinders the code as it looks at the main html page. However loading the page on its own the code will work, so its related to the menu and the way that works.

I have a text box where a user can press enter, tab (keypress) or click out of it (focusout) and an action happens. The box then gets removed. The problem is, the user presses enter, but that event is fired and then as the text box is removed the focus out is firing again.
How do I prevent removing the text box from firing the focusout action? I can remove the action totally but the text box could be returned to the document later.
