I have an an element that can successfully be retrieved by document.getElementById('id'),but when I attempt to alert(document.getElementById('id').innerHTML), the string is empty. Then, if I try to change the innerHTML like this:
document.getElementById('id').innerHTML += "new string", I get "unknown runtime error".The thing that bothers me is that the element can be gotten with getElementById, but its property innerHTML seems to be either blank or null when in fact, it contains HTML. By the way, this is all in IE. I have tested in FIrefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and it works perfectly in those.
I want to carry out form validation for drop down lists. My website has 10 drop down lists. I want an alert message to be displayed whenever the user selects a blank field from a drop down list. One of the sample drop down list runs as follows:
[Code]...
How can I include a function that displays an alert message whenever a user selects a blank option from the drop down list?
iam trying to use 5 drop downs in my form for user to select languages and each select drop down should not allow the user to select the same language again and all my drop downs are populating individually from the DB on the page so if "English" is selected for "dropdown 1" then again "drop down 2" should not allow "English" to be selected.
I accidentally damaged my slide show today and cant work out how to fix it. If you go to [URL] its on the home page. I had only links showing so I added the <ul id="slideshow"> tag and now I have the box coming up but its just blank.
I have a long form in a tabbed interface, where I want to count the non blank fields on each tab (the form fields are text and checkbox inputs and multi & single select fields). The counting function is as follows:
// Input argument is a tab object function countFieldsOnTab(obj){ var counttext = obj.find('input:text[value!=""]').length;
[Code].....
The counts of text, checkbox and multi-select fields works, but the single select count doesn't return what I want. The default option in single selects is a default where the value is blank "<option value="">-- make a selection -- </option>. These will be found as selected options.
How do I count only those options have have a non-blank selection?
I have an ajax dependent drop down set up for location fields and am having trouble figuring out how to clear the dependent selects if the parent select is changed to blank.I set up a function to clearFields:
<script> function clearFields() { document.getElementById('cb_state').value = "";
What you can see is that I have a bunch of images which form a chart, each of the images has multiple classes.I want to write a function which when called fades in/out images dependant on whether all related checkboxes are checked or not.Checkboxes are related to the images by id on the checkbox and class on the image, as I'm sure you can see. I will be calling this method each time a checkbox is checked.
I'm trying to get the two followup questions underneath the checkbox to show up only if someone places a check there, but for some reason the way I've got it set up now it's simply hiding the area I want to show up altogether, and the checkbox has no effect on it.
Rather than waste tons of space pasting it here, here's the pastebin: [url]
Alternatively here is the live version:[url]
I'd prefer to have the form collapse when the additional questions are hidden, though if i can get this working at all.
I have a problem with a drop down menu showing behind image slider (not flash), as the menu shows up behind the large image slider [URL]It only happens in FireFox.....
I have a basic CSS menu, that has submenus. I am wanting to add a drop shadow to the drop down boxes, using jQuery. I have found a nifty jQuery plugin that does shadows: [URL] the drop down shadow displays whether or not the submenu is showing/visible. The menu structure is rather simple with UL and LI:
I am new to jquery and I need to make a form that allows a user to select a state and a city that they go to school in. I am using the cascade juqery plug-in [url].
Which I think is a great plugin) The problem is there is a lot of data and it takes a long time for it all to load (some 28,000 records).
What I want to do is split it up into different files and then load only the file that contains the data for that start/region.
Apologies if this question has been asked a million times. I am fairly new to this game, have got my head around html & css and now it's time to add a little interactivity... BUT i've hit my first brick wall. I am setting up a (big) panel of text which i wish to present in a more reasonable fashion by hiding the content and only showing the headers. Got the Hide:Show function working ok as shown below, but I am stuck on my next requirement...
Basically The hidden text will show and hide when told by clicking on the relevant header - but i wish to hide the text in a visible area when clicking on a new header.
I'm doing a page w/lots of divs that I set to visibile or hidden dynamically using getElementById.. the divs are all forms... sometimes elements in a hidden form show thru on a visible form.. how can I fix this..
I'm not allowed to post a link yet since I'm a newbie. But the page is here: tinyurl dot com /m8ajyp
This page (and others on the site) use javascript to show/hide some divs in order to have a tab-like interface.
Is there any way to link to this page with the "Past Events" div showing as the default? Right now you can see that "Coming Events" shows on page load. And that's the way we want it most of the time.
But there are places in the site where I'd like to link specifically to this page with the "Past Events" div showing on page load.code...
To say I'm new to JavaScript is a bit of an understatement so bear with me. I have a site set up with a variety of layers of toggles. When you enter the site all of the items are collapsed and you click the headings to expand. Each of the toggle-able items have ids. It works great for users who start at the homepage.
However, when I send people to any of the inner topics, all they see is the initial collapsed state of the site. I want to be able to provide a URL that will set the toggle to open, and show all of the content for that section on entry.
Here is my code and js, can anyone point me in the right direction?
This all works fine but on some products the html select id="productOptions9" isn't shown and when that happens the divarea DIV is visible and I want it hidden.
i have a mysql db which contains a table of car brand names and another table for car models (which is linked to the other).what i want is, to make a select box in HTML showing all the car brand names, when a brand name is highlighted it activates another select box that includes only the car models of the highlighted car brand...
I've built a tool where users can search for something & the results show up in a select list as selectable options..... sometimes the results can take a few seconds to load depending on how many results there are... so I was attempting to show some "Results are loading" text when they search, & then hide it when they are displayed.
However for some reason it's not working correctly.. both commands don't appear to work until the select list options have loaded & hence rendering them redundant.... I have tried putting them inside separate functions but no change in the behavior.
What basically happens is I press the button to search & it searches & once the results show up so does the loading text.... however if I include the hide text command then the text doesn't show at all as it's hidden as soon as it's shown.
Here is the code I am using..
function searchCats(text) { // Set URL for ajax request var url = 'search_cats.php?search_text='+text; // Set up element we're modifying
Basically, I need the script to hide two divs if one of the options in a <select> menu is selected.
Here's the code I've got for the Javascript: function typeoflisting() { var selectform = document.getElementById('propertytype'); if (selectform.options[selectedIndex].value == "sell") {
I've got some directory list boxes on the site I'm working on. I made them big and fixed rather than drop-down so they're easier to use in this context. But I had to enable the "multiple" attribute to make that work. The site has no provision for multiple selections so it's a tad annoying when the search function selects more than one name in the list.It doesn't really affect the site's operation but it could be confusing to some people. Is there a way to make the listbox show multiple selections without allowing multiple selections? Thanks for any help.
