JQuery :: Count Select Elements, But Only Where The Options Value Is Not Blank?
May 28, 2010
I have a long form in a tabbed interface, where I want to count the non blank fields on each tab (the form fields are text and checkbox inputs and multi & single select fields). The counting function is as follows:
// Input argument is a tab object
function
countFieldsOnTab(obj){
var counttext = obj.find('input:text[value!=""]').length;
[Code].....
The counts of text, checkbox and multi-select fields works, but the single select count doesn't return what I want. The default option in single selects is a default where the value is blank "<option value="">-- make a selection -- </option>. These will be found as selected options.
How do I count only those options have have a non-blank selection?

I have 2 html-selects, one as source, the other as target. I want to copy the source-options to the target.
#sel_rel > source
#sel_new_after_rel > target
function openFormAddRel(){
generateFieldset("Release hinzufügen", "reg_edit", "form_add_rel");
[Code]....
While appending the option-elements to the targetselect the original option-elements disappear (exactly at step of line 13). This is unwanted behaviour.

I am designing a dynamic web form, and all works fine except that I can’ t eliminate the ‘blank’ spaces that appears between the form elements when these are displayed or hidden. I mean for example, the long blank space that appears between the form submit button and the table rows displayed, because the other tables and form elements are hidden.
I attached the complete sample page so that you can see the ‘blank’ spaces I want to eliminate. These are the 'blank' spaces I want to eliminate:
1. When the page loads, a long blank space appears between the submit button and the table rows displayed.
2. When you select only the ‘Quality B’ checkbox, a long blank space appears between the ‘Product details’ title and the table rows displayed.
3. When you select both ‘Quality A’ and ‘Quality B’ checkboxes, a blank space appears between the table rows displayed. I want a blank space there, but smaller.
In all the cases I want the submit button just below (with a little blank space) the table rows displayed.

Is it possible to reorder the options in a form select box with jQuery, either by drag and drop or by up and down arrows/controls?I have a form select field that users use to choose an item to edit. I'd like users to also be able to reorder items in the select box to change their display order.In the end, I'll likely send order changes to the server via AJAX.

I currently have a form that the checkboxes are automatically populated. There is over 1000 checkboxes in total, 48 of these checkboxes are designed as main topics, when the checkbox for one of these 48 are ticked, it checks all sub catergory checkboxes as well as populates a <select><option> multiple list with its value. When unchecking one of the 48, it unchecks all its sub categories and removes them from the <select><option> multiple list.
The problem I am having is, when i select one of the 48, which populates the multiple list option and checks all sub categories... i go to uncheck one in the sub categories, which successfully unchecks the main category (as it indicates they are not all selected). It also successfully removes the sub category from the multiple select option list and its main category (which became unchecked).
When I go back to check the main category which makes all the sub categories checked... it re-populates the <select><option> multiple list with the values creating duplicates. I need a proper way of when I check a box, it scans the multiple <select><option> list to see if it already exists, then adds it again if it is not there. I have tried the following jquery:
$('#elemSelect option[value = thisCheckbox.value]').length > 0)
but it seems the length always comes out 0 (zero). I need a fast and efficient way of doing this there is over a 1000 checkboxes that can be checked and need to populate this list.

I have two multiple selects on my page. One gets updated via ajax whenever the user filters data (we'll call that select "#select-1"), when they select options from that it then gets moved into the other select (we'll call that "#select-2"). That is all working fine but I'd like to refine it so that they can't select the same data twice.
So, basically, what I'd like to do is add logic within the ajax call to only update the select options in (#select-1) if it does NOT exist in the other select (#select-2).
I have no clue where to even begin with this....do I need to store the val's in an array and then search for each one in the other?

I am populating a number of Select boxes on the server-side with a large number of options. I'd like to get the response size down without taxing the client browser too much. What do you think is the most efficient way to approach this problem?
Here are some considerations: The option text/values do not change very often, but could potentially change in the future. The page that holds the select boxes should never be cached, there are other aspects of the page that need to remain fresh. Firebug with YSlow is saying that the primed cache size of the page is 300Kb with all the select dropdowns and options, if I remove the options, the primed cache size of the page is 80Kb. I am considering breaking out the text/value pairs for the select boxes into a separate file that is cache-able calling it "valueTextPairs.js" and referencing it with a query string and some sort of server-generated MD5 hash of the data, so that if any of the values change, the client's cached version will be replaced by the latest version. Like so:[URL]...
Provided I do this, I anticipate that the primed cache size of the page will be reduced down to 80Kb (which I like) -- however, before I take the plunge, I am curious what you all think the performance effect will be?
I know the number of bytes on the wire will be reduced, but will this put a lot of additional pressure on the client's browser because I'd need to traverse the name/value pairs and add the options to the select boxes dynamically on the client end? If it seems reasonable to do this, what jQuery approach would be the most efficient? $('#selectId').html(options) with options = one big string? Adding each child option to the select in a loop? Something else?
Some client end folks are using IE6 so I am trying to tax the browser as little as possible, while also reducing the size of each request, trying to find a happy medium..

Since its not multiple its not going to show all the 3 options selected, so I created a little button with the easy statement in JQuery it is working, it makes the Select Multiple, it expands the Select and make the items selectable, but on the other hand it does not show the already selected options.

So never done this one before so I am having a bit of a time trying to figure this one out.
Say I have a list of LI element and only a few of them have a inline style of display block, the rest have a display of none.
How would I go about looping through and dertmining the number of elements that have a display of block?
for(var m = 0; m < li.style.display.length; i++)
{
alert(m);
};
The above is just crazy but where my mind melts..
