Site Check Partners For Ajax Smoke Tests
Jan 3, 2007
I'd like to join or start a small group of Ajax web developers who are
willing to smoke test each others Ajax applications, quid pro quo.
I can smoke test on W2K SP4 with IE6, FF2, SM 1 and O9.
I need the following smoke tests:
IE7 on XP (are they SP1 or SP2 now?)
IE and FF on VISTA (any SPs yet?)
SAF, IE and FF on MAC (Panther, Tiger, ...?)
KON and FF on LINUX (Debian, Ubuntu, ...?)
other Ajax-friendly browsers...?
I'm talking about something a small group of mature developers can do
to help each other, without anyone being neglected or taken advantage
of.

Im creating a switch statement for this case, but dont know how to start - Create a Switch statement that tests the value of the partyType parameter. If partyType equals "D", store the following text string in a variable named barText: <td class='dem'> </td>
If partyType equals "R", barText should equal <td class='rep'> </td> etc.. So since its going to test the value of the partyType parameter, and store the text string in a variable named barText do i begin like:

Just a quick one here I want a regular expression that tests a string to find out if not empty. I am currently using /^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/ which allows all alphanumeric characters, however unfortunately does not allow white space. As I am trying to use the RE for a form name input and I don't wish to separate first and last name, I want to allow users to enter their full name including spaces. Can anyone tell me an RE that allows all alphanumeric characters and white space in a string but does not allow an empty string

I've got my accordion working.The html and jq are as follows
<div class="nav">
<h3><div></div>
<h3><div></div>
<h3><div></div>etc..
</div>
$(document).ready(function() {
This hides all divs except the first one (check the site) on load, then whenever I click a h3, it performs as an accordion, sliding the hidden div down and other visible divs back upI want to add another functionality. I want it to be like, if you click on a h3, and the next div is already open, it will hide that div. else, it performs this function. This would be a basic if/else then wouldn't it? I'm new to jq but I've done mIRC scripting in the past and I don't know how the selectors work yet

So, like the title says, is it possible with JS/AJAX to read an XML from another site? Or is this restricted with JS?
I'm wondering if I can real a RSS news feed from another web site so that I can display the contents on the site that I'm building.

Currently prototype does not support cross site ajax, such as dojo or jquery.
This is unfortunate, cause I am really used to prototype and would like to use this functionality.
What would be the best way for me to implement cross site ajax for prototype.
Note that I will still need the normal ajax functions as well, so a nice extend or something would be good.

I'm not sure why my ajax is throwing a cross site scripting error. I have a php page that request a page not in my domain. I have another page where my ajax requests the php page, which is in my domain. Then the error is thrown. Since the php page is in my domain, why would the error be thrown?

I've recently been working on a small AJAX/PHP plugin, its very easy to understand, you just call the page and it returns a quote from a database in html, something like
<strong>quote here.. <em>author name</em></strong>
And then you style it however you want, its good for semantics that way, you would typically wrap it in a div and update that div with the output each time from your ajax.
It all works fine, and you can see an example here @ www.theshadownest.com.au click on the clock, and you will see the quote come up. disregard the other stuff in the box.
The idea i had for this was set up a large database of quotes with simple semantic output and let Ajax queries call that page, but i want to be able to call that page output from other servers, urls etc... I thought that would be fine, you just request the page with ajax on your site and it could return the response from my site...
But this does not work, you get a permission denied error in the Javascript, it obviously can't do this.
How do you write a PHP/AJAX plugin that can work from multiple sites, because i want to be able to let anyone make a request, its basically a resource for people who want to add quotes to their site without setting up their own database or writing their own php.

I had posted this issue previously regarding my Ajax site navigation module not loading correctly. It would load on certain parts of the site and not others. After some research I have discovered that I need to redirect from "www.mydomain.com" and make a call to "mydomain.com" instead. I thought a 301 .htaccess redirect would work but according to the site that sold me the template the script in my configure.php file must be changed. This is what configure.php looks like now.
<?php
define('HTTP_SERVER', '[URL]');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', '[URL]');
define('ENABLE_SSL', 'TRUE');
define('HTTP_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'mydomain.com')
define('HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'mydomain.sslpowered.com/mydomain.com/');
define('HTTP_COOKIE_PATH', '/mydomain.com/mysite/catalog/'); .....
I am wondering what has to be changed in the script so it will make the call the the correct domain so the ajax script will load on all parts of the site.

I am trying to implement a new jquery scroller for some navigation in my site and am running into some problems. I had a different version of the scroller working as well as the ajax calls to the content. Now with the new scroller there are classes created by the javascript that seem to be interfering with the ajax. You can see in the example shown : webdesign The solo link works fine (without the extra classes) This is how it was set up before. I am having to use a new scroller because I need to make the navigation dynamic and have to be able to create a single list of links that can then be cut up into sections by the JS, rather than building the list out in sections to be scrolled. If you are familiar with these scrollers then you know how they work.
This is the one I am using now: [URL] Then one I was using before is this: [URL] How can I get this to work. I tried disabling the creation of these classes but then it didn't scroll at all. I don't know JS enough to dig into the file or to figure out a solution.

I ran in to a strange problem with a client who uses Yahoo hosting. The web site uses AJAX (jquery, php, javascript). There is no problem viewing the site using IE8, Firefox on a Windows 7 computer. On an XP computer the site worked fine in IE, but not in Firefox. The site never worked properly using Chrome or Safari.
I tried jquery 1.3.2 and 1.4.2 but got the same results.
I use this same combination (jquery, php, javascript) on other web hosts and don't have these problems.
I know that Yahoo hosting injects tracking code in the web pages it serves for the sites it hosts (at least for my client). I think this could be the source of the problem.
When I removed jquery (I was only using the load function anyway) and used my own code- the problem disappeared. The site now works in all browsers.

Not sure if I posted this in the right area since its a Javascript/PHP related problem.I have no clue how to check if a user didn't leave the site.Ofcourse you can use the Onunload() or Beforeunonload() function.But some browsers like Opera and Safari and who know what other browsers don't support it.Is there any other alternative?Like expecting server side each X seconds a AJAX request from the user?If the user doesn't send a request, the user has left.

Does anyone know is it possible to check if ajax call was redirect? i mean I connect by Ajax to one URL but I'm redirected to other url. Is there a way to check that my request was redirected? this situation happen when some urls are only accesible when you are logged (i mean you have session) and if you losed session you are usually redirect to other page. But I don't know is it possible to check that my call was redirect. For now wheatever my AJAX call was redirect or not i get status 200 (it's OK)...

I have two AJAX commands. One creates a list of items, the next highlights a specific item on that list. I don't want to combine these two commands because I often use them separately in different functions. However, the first command - the one that lists the items in an innerHTML - must complete before the second command is called. I used to just set a few seconds (as you'll see below) before the next command was called, but now the list is growing longer, and it no longer works. Is there some kind of command to only execute it when the previous command is ready, like "onReadyState"? Code:

This is my first adventure into PHP/Ajax/MySql/Javascript and is pretty much my first web project. I've been trying to tackle this problem for a little over a week now. My main objective is that I want to display php content pages inside a div on the index page without refreshing the page (iframe style). I don't want to stop search engines indexing the individual pages so I need a mechanism to redirect to the index page so that the page is displayed properly. I'm not bothered if it takes them to the exact page and I'm redirecting them to the section of the site where they the page is kept.
I also want a mechanism to redirect if a second search engine link is clicked that belongs to the individual page (ie image links that belong to the same page). This is only a problem because the php session has already been opened and a php variable has been set by the first redirect. All the redirections are taken care of by PHP and I got the redirection of multiple instances working ok by setting and unsetting session variables. This PHP code is included on every content page.
But, when I added links to the index page and try to navigate between pages, it all goes pear-shaped.When the links are clicked it calls up the Javascript code, inside which a PHP variable is set (I dunno if this is the "done" thing, but I came across the solution somewhere on the Interweb). This is the first thing checked when the content pages are called up. If the variable isn't set, then it runs through the redirect options.
The problem is that after clicking the link when the page displays it always refreshes the index page which I don't want it to do and which is why I'm thinking it's the setting of the PHP variable inside the Javascript that's going wrong. (Also why this question ended up in this section). Is there any way of getting this going without passing the variable into the url (not that I'm against this option)? Index page code, PHP Code (before HTML)...
Code:
<?php
if(!isset($_SESSION))
{
session_start();
}
// set the session var to the index page url which I think remains until browser close
$_SESSION['pagecheck'] = "http://".$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
// set the section var if it hasn't already been set by one of the content pages
if(isset($_SESSION['sectNum'])!= "undefined")
{
$_SESSION['sectNum'] = "0";
}
function getSection() .....
Additionally, are there any potential security threats that should be tackled (bearing in mind that I don't want to use cookies, I'm not against this either but decided if they are switched of it may become an issue, and I'm not going to be handling any sensitive information). I really don't want to use Iframes due to any javascript switching off related problems (yes there is a javascript testing function included in my full code!).

I have a shopping cart with a quantity field. I also have an update button that updates the totals. Myquestion is how can I use jQuery to check the quantity field when it loses focus, to check the value against the database and the Instock field. If gt then display a tooltip (or something) and not allow the form to be submitted. The problem is the field is called sel_qty for each product.

I have a simple AJAX chat room and it's taking too much local bandwidth when it downloads. What I want to do is call a page with AJAX that checks for new entries in the database and sends a response if there are new ones. But if there's nothing new it just doesn't respond. That way a user won't have to download a response with no new material. Is this okay to do? Am I correct in assuming this will have a positive affect on bandwidth?

I'm using the submit and ajax functions to check a form. When the form is submitted the submit event executes and within that event the data (a code the user has to fill in) is sent to the server to check if it's correct. If it is correct, the submit event supposes to return true (so the form submits), if it's incorrect the submit event supposes to return false (so submitting the form cancels).
Here's my code that should do this:
$(function(){
var submit = false;
$('#login').submit(function(){
$('span.error').fadeOut('slow');
$.ajax({
url: '/ajax/login',
type: 'POST',
data: 'code=' + $('#code').val(),
success: function(response){
if (response != ''){
$('span.error').fadeIn('slow').text(response);
submit = false;
}else{
submit = true;
}}})
return submit;
})});
But here's the problem: While jQuery does the ajax request, the script continues. So it will return false - even if the code is validated - because the var submit has been set to false at line 4. When I submit the form again, the form is validated because 'submit' is true (but that's set to true the first time). How can I ensure the submit function waits for the ajax request to finish?

I like the looks of the validation engine plugin, but I can't figure out one thing... For a particular form field, I need to use an Ajax service to validate the data. I have to pass the value of the text input, of course, but I also need to pass a couple of other key=value pairs along with it. In the file with the selectors there's the option to add extraData (like extraData="name=eric") but I need to set these parameters based on some dynamic info.Is there a way to pass extra information to the ajax service?
