Refresh Page After A Post Call?
Mar 15, 2011
I have the following code:
$(function() {
$("#check_login").click(function() {
event.preventDefault();
[code]....
I'm basically checking a user login. If the login is successful I'd like to close the Fancybox. This part works fine. I'm using an iFrame from Fancybox. If I don't have this part:
parent.$.fancybox.close();
It will reload the index page in my iFrame. How can I refresh my other page from the iFrame?

I have made a page thats makes an AJAX call to the server gets the time and displays it. In the OPEN method i have set
req.open("GET","/timerProg.cgi?param1="+new date(),false);
I have set the last parameter as false as i am expecting a synchronous request so that time displayed should be consistent.
I am using new date() since the browser is caching my request and displaying the same output everytime as i dont know any other alternative.
The alternative so that browser does not cache the results and gives proper output each time.

I have a website that uses a custom built webserver to serve the pages.
(Please don't ask me why my boss had his own web server written). I am
displaying a log of information that is an unknown number of rows. This is
currently displayed in a table.
The table is generated by some code that we had to write (thank you custom
webserver) so that the webserver will parse HTML files and fill in the tags
we created with some data before returning that to the browser, the HTML
looks a lot like ASP or JSP using the <% %> tags to denote something to be
filled in.
Now all that works fine and dandy, but in order for this log of information
to show the latest stuff, the page needs to refresh and tell the server to
go get the list of log info and fill in the HTML with the info then return
it to the browser. All this happens pretty quick, but like any site, the
page blinks while it refreshes.
Now my boss wants that page to update without refreshing (the blink annoys
him apparently). At first I said that it couldn't be done, but he said that
he didn't believe me. Thus I am forced to ask you guys.
I know you can update fields like that using JavaScript. (I made a font tag
with an id and a JavaScript function resets the nodeValue. This changes the
text without refreshing the screen). But my problem now is that I need to
POST to the server to get the information without the page refreshing
(through JavaScript?). Is this even possible? I planned on getting the
data back and document.write() it all to the page.
Any ideas?

I would like to delay my jquery .post() call for 5 seconds like: jQuery.delay(5000).post( ajaxurl, data, function(response){ alert(response); } ); but it is not working. the error msg tells that the object do not support that method jQuery().delay(5000) or jQuery('body').delay(5000) is too not working.

Is there a way to call a javascript function in a meta refresh statement? I'm refreshing my page but if I have data in my fields I don't want to loose them. If I can call using a JS function then in that function I can call the Submit function and save my data in the called script.
My syntax below doesn't fire the JS function:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="30;url=javascript:auto_refresh();">

The server i'm trying to post data to in an ajax call expects data in xml format, including a particular attribute value. I have to use Chrome browser which does not support the XML Class (e4x).
I tried to marshal my data as follows:
But the ajax call does not appear to transfer the xml data to the server even though the xmlhttprequest call appears ok in Chrome's developer tool console.
I'm wondering whether I'm forming the xml formatted data correctly.

I am trying to use a $.post call in jQuery to check a user's credentials before submitting a form (so I can show errors without reloading the page), but I've run into a problem. I know why it is, because AJAX is not synchronous, but I just can't figure out how to do it.
In my code the script I'm making the call to returns "valid" or "invalid". If the return is "valid", I want to submit the form, if not, show an error message. Here is a simplified version:
$("#my_form").submit( function () {
some_value = "username"
$.post(script_location, {data : some_value}, function (data) {
response = data
[Code]...
This obviously does not work because code is executed quickly one after another and the variable "response" is not yet set when the execution gets to the if statement, since it is set sometime later, asynchronously.
I looked into using functions, callbacks, but nothing seems to work properly, I always run into the same issue. This is probably really simple, i just a complete dunce, please do let me know what is the standard way of doing this properly.

I have the following bit of jQuery:
Code:
$("#save_photos_all_continue").click(function() {
event.preventDefault();
var $black_white_all = $("#black_white_all").is(':checked');
var $color_all = $("#color_all").is(':checked');
var $other_all = $("#other_all").is(':checked');
[Code]...
In Google Chrome it works fine but in Mozilla/5.0 it actually goes to the save_edits page instead of just using the post and staying on the original page.

Our company own a lot of domains and want to put a short page of copy on each address along with keywords before redirecting the user to our main site. I have been able to get the page to load the main site after the desired time using this code in the head...
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="40;URL=http://webaddress.com/">
That works perfectly, I am now trying to display a countdown timer from 40 seconds down to 0, and on 0 redirect the user. Saying something like "You will be redirected in XX seconds". Is there anyway of doing this? I've been searching google for the answers with no luck and can only seem to find timers that countdown to a set date.

My problem is when the file is changed and the display button is
pressed, the old file is still displaying. I have tried using
<META HTTP-EQUIV=expires CONTENT=0><META HTTP-EQUIV=PRAGMA CONTENT=NO-CACHE>, but doesn't work 100% of the time.

I'm building a suite of free php applications to create virtual worlds.
My problem is i can't get my file to refresh. Can this be done with
javascript? I would like to have the display and the form be on a single
page..unless this can be done with frames.
The sample application contains 2 files:
a)The php file (with input controls and the embedded world)
b)The embedded world (text file)
1. The php file accepts input from the user
2. The user hits Submit which creates the text file for the world
this works - the text file is created with changes. next the page
should refresh itself and show the world based on the user's input.
Right now steps 1 and 2 work perfectly in the sense that the text file
for the world does get created. however the page will still show the
older version of the text file.
To get the page to refresh properly, i have to hit the reload button on
the browser...this gives me the "this page can't be refreshed without
sending..." alert...but it then refreshes and shows the changes.
the code:
