A webpage has a number of questions that a user must answer and each question can be answered using a list of checkboxes. Thus each set of checkboxes (each question) will have a seperate name. The webpage is dynamically generated and I dont know how many questions will be on there nor the amount of checkboxes each question will have.
I know how to obtain the checkbox values using a form and a conventional submit button however what I want to do is put a button below each question and use AJAX to submit the answers for each question therefore the whole page will not refresh once each question is submitted.
I assume I will have to create a string that contains the values of the checkboxes joined together with delimiters because it is not possible to POST and actual array? So how do I obtain the values of the checkboxes for each individual question using JavaScript?

The server i'm trying to post data to in an ajax call expects data in xml format, including a particular attribute value. I have to use Chrome browser which does not support the XML Class (e4x).
I tried to marshal my data as follows:
But the ajax call does not appear to transfer the xml data to the server even though the xmlhttprequest call appears ok in Chrome's developer tool console.
I'm wondering whether I'm forming the xml formatted data correctly.

I am trying to use a $.post call in jQuery to check a user's credentials before submitting a form (so I can show errors without reloading the page), but I've run into a problem. I know why it is, because AJAX is not synchronous, but I just can't figure out how to do it.
In my code the script I'm making the call to returns "valid" or "invalid". If the return is "valid", I want to submit the form, if not, show an error message. Here is a simplified version:
$("#my_form").submit( function () {
some_value = "username"
$.post(script_location, {data : some_value}, function (data) {
response = data
[Code]...
This obviously does not work because code is executed quickly one after another and the variable "response" is not yet set when the execution gets to the if statement, since it is set sometime later, asynchronously.
I looked into using functions, callbacks, but nothing seems to work properly, I always run into the same issue. This is probably really simple, i just a complete dunce, please do let me know what is the standard way of doing this properly.

I've created a registration form with sponsorship options hooked to checkboxes. My original form used ASP to keep values in hidden fields to use for totaling everything at checkout time.
Now I'd like to use PHP and Ajax to place the value into the text field related for each option checked.
I'm able to do that making an Ajax call. My problem that I need help with is this: If the visitor decides to uncheck a sponsorship option, the value placed in the associated field remains on the form. How do I replace that value with a null or empty string if they decide to uncheck their original choice?
I've tried JavaScript to no avail so far, both in the client side and server side code. I'm very new at this and I need help. Will jQuery work without having to change a bunch of code?

I have this code which allows a user to check multiple checkboxes by clicking just one check box. However, when I post the form, I only get the value of one check box. Suppose, I don't check the 'select all' check box and want to check only 1 and 3 checkbox, I still get the value for only one check box.

I have a php page (target_market.php), with a form that has 34 checkboxes. I would like the be able to click the boxes and have JS post the 'checked' value to a php session varibale when a button is clicked. If the user navigates away from the page and returns, the pages needs to reload the checkbox session variables.
How do I post the 'checked' value as either YES or NO using JS to another page (target_session.php), so that i can add them to database at a later stage?, but also retrieve the session variables and update the check boxes should the user come back to the target_market.php page?

The general framework is a simple user login function. The user name is selected and a password entered as usual. The function grabs the element values and passes them to a php page that queries the database. An AJAX call returns the password to the function and then I want the innerHTML to be a choice of two web pages, depending on success or failure of validation. There are existing AJAX functions available on the internet but they are overly complicated for what I think should be a simple, quick to load function.
Where I am stuck is that the standard procedure to make an AJAX call is the browser window event. How do you make the call from within the function? I have tried creating two new variables, "success" and "again" to replace xmlhttp, but still stumble on the event to assign a value. I left the blank password protection (if statement) with that variable to demonstrate what I mean.
I've put in my code below, which is in development and successfully alters the innerHTML text depending on user input but I can't figure out how to insert the relevant php page. I have '// out' the testing bits, but left them for info. (I have tried full 'scripting' as the innerHTML, but it's messy.)

I would like to delay my jquery .post() call for 5 seconds like: jQuery.delay(5000).post( ajaxurl, data, function(response){ alert(response); } ); but it is not working. the error msg tells that the object do not support that method jQuery().delay(5000) or jQuery('body').delay(5000) is too not working.

$("#check_login").click(function() {
event.preventDefault();

I'm basically checking a user login. If the login is successful I'd like to close the Fancybox. This part works fine. I'm using an iFrame from Fancybox. If I don't have this part:
parent.$.fancybox.close();
It will reload the index page in my iFrame. How can I refresh my other page from the iFrame?

I am building a web app that uses alot a jquery including a function that reaches out to a webservice using $.ajax to grab data and return to tdata to the web app. The function that makes the call is outside the ready block but is called in the ready block to make it run on the load. After the load I use a timer to keep calling the function to keep things up to date. But after the first run the function does not seam to work. This might sound wierd, but the ajax function appears to run after the initial go, but it always returns the original request, it does not make new request to the server. I use fiddler and watch what going on and after the initial run method it doesnt make any other calls even though I see the ajax method being stepped through using debugging software and see the AJAX call being attempted and returned successfully.
var REQUESTURL = '/citizenQuestionWCF.svc/';
var prOptions = '';
$(document).ready(function () {
getQuestions();

alert("data: " + data);

The first passes the variables with no problem, but I get an error with the ajax function, it is not passing the variables.

Note: answers along the lines of 'use jquery' or 'use (insert wellknown framework)' is not helpful.Frameworks such as jquery includes alot of extra code which is not nessary at all for what I am doing. 'But, you can include one from Google', yes that may be the case, but I prefer to keep to my own code. With that in mind, lets proceed to the problem.
I have an ajax call which doesn't pass POST vars through on IE7/IE8, but only on odd occasions. It appears to be extremely random and the majority of the time it does work. I am had a look at jquery and cannot see much difference in the way it works compared to this custom one.
