JQuery :: Form Xml Data To Post In Ajax Call ?
Apr 18, 2010The server i'm trying to post data to in an ajax call expects data in xml format, including a particular attribute value. I have to use Chrome browser which does not support the XML Class (e4x).
I tried to marshal my data as follows:
But the ajax call does not appear to transfer the xml data to the server even though the xmlhttprequest call appears ok in Chrome's developer tool console.
I'm wondering whether I'm forming the xml formatted data correctly.
JQuery :: Retrieve Results From A Ajax Call ($.post)
Mar 25, 2010I am trying to use a $.post call in jQuery to check a user's credentials before submitting a form (so I can show errors without reloading the page), but I've run into a problem. I know why it is, because AJAX is not synchronous, but I just can't figure out how to do it.
In my code the script I'm making the call to returns "valid" or "invalid". If the return is "valid", I want to submit the form, if not, show an error message. Here is a simplified version:

This obviously does not work because code is executed quickly one after another and the variable "response" is not yet set when the execution gets to the if statement, since it is set sometime later, asynchronously.
I looked into using functions, callbacks, but nothing seems to work properly, I always run into the same issue. This is probably really simple, i just a complete dunce, please do let me know what is the standard way of doing this properly.

This function in this case will ALWAYS return TRUE as a string. On Aspx page I have the following

I want this in a variable as a string so I can do a check on it before I do some other actions. The format is not a String so I cannot split on it to retrieve the "true" part.

As you can see in the comments the value I get back in the Callback method is in to me a weird format. The type is unknown and I need this value to be able to proceed with my entire method surrounding the small portion of the Javascript. Where to access the result variable / data as a var or anything else that will let me put it into a var (as a string).

But when i check the PHP script it only gets the $_POST['user'] the $_POST['message'] doesn't come through.

You start to type in an <input> field and a list of results show based on what you type, I have a list of Airports in MySQL that is check for LIKE of what is typed in and the matches show that can be selected. But you can only scroll with the mouse and not the arrow keys.
Does anyone know how I may allow arrow keys as well as the mouse to select their choice?

Nov 22, 2010I am trying to write code to allow a person select one photo to be their base image or Front cover image on a photo album. I am using jquery .post to get the form check box values which are the image file names and then use post to throw them to a php file and then update the database.
Now thats cool so far and that part works. Now the problem is that I need the main photo album picture to be replaced once the .post if completed or succeeded. I need to refresh the main image. Right now the only way to do it is to hit the refresh button on your web browser. Yet I want to do this without refreshing the page.
The Image displayed already is in a image html tag with a id named user_main I was thinking is it possible for .post to pass back to javascript a variable that has the image source and is there any way to update that image tag easily like where it says src="path to image" is located.
Would like to know the best way to refresh the image without having to refresh the page.

Feb 3, 2009I am using a jQuery AutoComplete plugin which fills in text as you type. I need to find a way when the page is submitted (submit.php) to determine if the user choose a company from the list, or if they typed in their own unique company.
If an option is selected, can i have jQuery post an extra $_POST variable like "new" or "existing" so I can pick it up on the submit.php page? Or when an option is selected, can I have .js write a hidden tag which contains the variable "existing"?

Dec 14, 2010The general framework is a simple user login function. The user name is selected and a password entered as usual. The function grabs the element values and passes them to a php page that queries the database. An AJAX call returns the password to the function and then I want the innerHTML to be a choice of two web pages, depending on success or failure of validation. There are existing AJAX functions available on the internet but they are overly complicated for what I think should be a simple, quick to load function.
Where I am stuck is that the standard procedure to make an AJAX call is the browser window event. How do you make the call from within the function? I have tried creating two new variables, "success" and "again" to replace xmlhttp, but still stumble on the event to assign a value. I left the blank password protection (if statement) with that variable to demonstrate what I mean.
I've put in my code below, which is in development and successfully alters the innerHTML text depending on user input but I can't figure out how to insert the relevant php page. I have '// out' the testing bits, but left them for info. (I have tried full 'scripting' as the innerHTML, but it's messy.)

I'm basically checking a user login. If the login is successful I'd like to close the Fancybox. This part works fine. I'm using an iFrame from Fancybox. If I don't have this part:
