JQuery :: Filter Elements By Their Index Similar To The Nth-of-type?
Nov 12, 2010
What's the best simple way to filter elements by their index similar to the nth-of-type equation an+b , regardless of parent and node type? Something like...
$("input").filter(":nth-of-set(3n+1)")
... to filter every third input element (3n) starting with the first one (+1).
Unfortunately that doesn't work. I understand that the index() isdocumentation (though confusing) correctly tells you that the above code doesn't work. Maybe I'm just weird, but I feel that the way .index() is implemented for string arguments is very counter intuitive. I have an expectation that .index() is similar to indexOf() in javascript.
I need to filter out elements without an adjacent visible element on ID. With $(" td:regex(id, ^\d):visible") I get all element visible in the table but not sure how I would go about and filter out the element with adjacent element and his self that is visble.
Concider below table, here both 1 and 1_1 are visible but 2 is and 2_1 is not visible.
I need to filter out 1 and 1_1 as they are both visible and only keep 2 in my selection.
I am running into an effect issue with IE only. I have a <UL> with about 4 <LI> and I apply the fadeIn() on individual <LI> based on user actions. Inside of each <LI> I have a div that is styled with: -moz-opacity:.8; opacity:0.80; filter:alpha(opacity=80); The problem is that when I fadeIn() the <LI> all of its children elements' opacity is taken from 0 to 100%, AND THEN the div that is styled with the opacity is taken back to 80%. This causes sort of a flicker because it goes from 0% to 100% and then quickly back to 80%. Is there a way to get around this? Is that a known bug? I saw some people that had posted similar questions but without answers: [URL] I am pressed for time to deliver a page and this is virtually the only issue holding me back! additional info: using: jquery-1.3.2.min.js
Currently I'm trying to create a menu with a mouseover effect on a link, which causes an image to display. All images are positioned on the same place, so the optical effect is that one image changes all the time. To achieve this I created an unordered list with the links / items in it, and I created a div with the (corresponding) images. On a mouseover event over a link, the index number of the current li element is stored in a variable, and I want to use that variable to select the corresponding image.
(So <li> index:2 corresponds to <img> index:2) So in 'human language': on mouseover of li { var indexNumber = li.indexnumber change class of img[indexNumber] }
But I can't get it to work. I managed to store the 'current' indexnumber successfully in a variable: var indexNumber = $("li").index(this);
But I can't use the variable to select the corresponding <img> I tried: $('.slidemenuImgbox img:eq(indexNumber)').addClass('slidemenu_show'); But nothing happens
However when I do: $('.slidemenuImgbox img:eq(1)').addClass('slidemenu_show'); The image with index:1 is changed. How to use a variable in :eq() To see a 'live' example (With no images changing): [URL]
I am trying to wrap <a> tags around text in <li> elements. How can I get the index of the <li> in the <ul>? I tried something like this: $('.tabbed-list li').wrapInner('<a></a>'); That works fine. However, I want to do something like this: $(this).wrapInner('<a href="#' + $(this).index() + '"></a>');
I am trying to find and get the current index in a group of elements like so: var index = $(attribute).index(this); However, this returns -1 for all selectors I pass to it in the variable. Why is this? Is there another way to find a div's position within its container easily?
How to loop alternate elements in JQuery ? I see it has each function which loops each elements . But I want every alternate elments to loop starting from an index.is it possible in JQuery ?
I'm attempting to physically change the index order of the elements returned by a selector.For example, I'm attempting to make it so when someone clicks on a button, it swaps the index position of the element above or below it (depending on which button they press).I tried to assign it using something like $('.draggable :eq(2)').attr('index', 3)But it didn't seem to work. Is there a way to do it using jQuery, or do I have to change it within DOM itself? Or is there another way to do it?
I know that within the function I can access properties of the field (e.g. theField.name and theField.value). But how do I access theField's index number in the form's elements[] array -- from the "this" reference that was passed to the function? I.E. if this field is elements[3], how can I get at that 3?
For example, set onmouseclick event function of all images on a page to do the same thing. I want it to be the "default" function, that it applies to all images I create later on with JS. Look at this code, it's just the concept:
Code: images.onmouseclick=function(){alert("an image was clicked")} //I know the "images" object doesn't exist a=document.createElement("img"); document.appendChild(a); // an alert box should open when this new image is clicked. // an alert box should open when any other image is clicked.
I am trying to get the index of a li with a specific class. I know I'm selecting the right object because I can apply a CSS class to it (eg change border colour) but when I try to get the index it returns -1. But I know the object exists as I can alter it. :-s
jQuery(document).ready(function() { var active = $("#tertiarynavigation .bordered").get(0); var num = $("#tertiarynavigation li").index(active); alert("Index: " + num);
I have the below array called "results". When I loop through all document elements I would like to check "field_name" against the "results" array and see if it exists and what index number it is at??
// Split the comma delimited response into an array results = result.split("~"); //Loop through array and populate fields[code].....
I have to change text input type to password input type and i am using jquery script. This script work for FF, Chrome and Safari browser but not worked on ie7, ie8.

How can i update my script, so that it works cross the browser.
Every 2 to 3 days I check the ticket system to see how the development of the latest JQueryUI 1.9 is doing and how the JQuery is doing. After several weeks of this I have found way too many tickets about IE6 issues and I started to ask myself why does JQuery and actually, many other projects still try to solve problems for somethings that is beyond repair. With this am talking to the fact that:
Does anyone know how to create a grid with grouping similar to itunes? I have searched the web and cannot find anything. I want to have a category and to the left and several topics to be grouped with that category. See image below.
I posted a while ago about the Truncate plugin not preserving html links in FF. I like the plugin, but it needs to present properly in FF. I couldn't figure it out and nobody responded. Is there any other plugins that provide similar funcationality?
