JQuery :: Populate Select Form Field?
Jan 26, 2010
I have a form where a user may select a box from above which will query the database and autofill in the fields. This works properly for all of my input text fields but I have a select box where a user selects their state that I am unable to get to properly populate.
The select box is populated on page load in the following format....
<select id="state" name="state">
<option value="1">ALABAMA</option>
<option value="2">ALASKA</option>
</select>
[Code]....
Everything populates correctly except where I try to set the val on the state select field. It does not change at all. I need it to display the statename with the value of the state (number).

Is there some example js that shows how to populate a text field on a form, based upon what option is chosen in a select form field? The options can be hardcoded and it would be great to also have a default if js is off on the client side.code...

I want to make a popup helps the user select a value for an input field in a html form.
For example, if the field is for a customer code - the user can either type in the customer code directly, or use the popup to search on available customer codes using various criteria and finally select the customer code he or she wants to use, and have that customer code populate back into the original input field.
I have been looking around the various components in jquery but can't quite see how to do this.

I work for a very large company that has zero communications between IT and the employees...so there is very little possibility of having any code changed.I need to use a web based system that submits orders for my department. The problem is i must order by "task number". I could have 20-30 task numbers so to complete the order I need to go to my company's page and fill out 15 form fields and submit for each task code. It is a terrible pain. 14 of the 15 fields are the same for each order... only the task code changes.

I know not one word of Javascript and wondered if there was
an easy way to pre-populate a form field in a similar manner to
populating an eMail 'subject' field? -
The following populates the subject field in an eMail:
a href="mailto:me@anwhere.com?subject=USER ID 12345
How can I populate the first field of a form (or can I?) with the
same information - i.e. the USER ID located on the HTML page
calling the form?

Basically I need to:
1. Pull a value from inside a div
<div id="number">(invoice #1017)</span>
2. Populate a form input field with that value.

I have a page that runs a lot of calculations.The math is computed on the fly using java scriptwhen all the calcs are in, prior to form submission the user needs to evaluate which numbers they prefer, and from there, once they select them, the form, based on those choices, will perform one last calclets say we have 3 result fields
r1 = 2000
r2 = 3000
r3 = 4000
what i want to do is have a select field be able to display those values at the bottom of the page;for example
<select name="s1">
<option value=[field contents of r1 above]>[field contents of r1 above]</option>
<option value=[field contents of r2 above]>[field contents of r2 above]</option>

I'd like some direction on creating a small piece of Javascript that will populate my <select> boxes. Basically, I have a form for users to create events, with a start time and an end time. (These are the two select boxes). For example:
Code:
<select id="startTime">
<option value="12:00AM">12:00AM</option>
<option value="12:15AM">12:15AM</option>
etc.....
</select>
What I am trying to do is:
1) Have times populated in 15 minute incrementals from 12:00AM to 11:45PM
2) Have some type of "error checking" available to where the End Time must be after the start time. It would be nice for the script to automatically change the end time field to a time that is after the start time.

I'm using Google Maps to calculate distance between cities. I need to use that distance value for some basic calculations. Distance has to be in "Angloamerican" format (1,234.00) but in metric system. So, Google Maps answer for Madrid - Berlin query will be one of these two:
a) <span jscontent="distance['text']" jsdisplay="distance" jstcache="7">2.320,1 km</span>
b) <span jscontent="distance.text" jstcache="23">2.320,1 km</span>
notice the differences in span "classes" (jstcache is 7 or 23) and lack of any "id" or "name" attributes.
What I want to accomplish is:
1) Convert these Google Maps distance values to "Angloamerican" format (2,320 km) or (even better) format without thousands separator which would only use dots as decimal separator (2320.1 km)
2) Use that filtered value to populate a text field called distance
Populate hidden form element value with the value of a text field on form submit (jQuery)
It helped me a bit with the auto-populate part, but I can't make it work in combination with this Google Maps code. Here is my current code:
<head>
...
<script type="text/javascript">
function submitMyForm(){
[Code]....

As the user types the "start year", I want to fill the "end year" with the same value, keystroke by keystroke. But simply using a keypress eventhandler doesn't do quite what I want, as
$("#start_year").keypress(function(event) {
$("#end_year").val($("#start_year").val());
})
fills in "end_year" with the value before the keypress has been added to "start_year".Again, I just want "end_year" to be the same as "start_year" as it's being typed.

I'm having problems with a Javascript 'Lookup' function.
Basically, I have a select menu 'Customer' which triggers a 3 JS functions, to populate 2 extra select menus.
Using IE Developer Tools, during debugging, I get this error: Expected ';' Error
This relates to either: eval(ajax_CustContact[index].response); OR eval(ajax_CostCentreContact[index].response); (it's a bit random, as sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't)
I have tried changing the 'custid' to 'custname' to check whether it was an integer causing the problem, but had the same problem.

I have a form with a number of <select> fields, some of which require additional fields to be displayed/enabled depending on which <option> is chosen. For example, in the following code, I'd like a <textarea> field to be displayed if users choose the 'Other' option:
<label for="venue_type"><p>What type of venue do you require?</p></label>
<select name="venue_type" id="venue_type">
<option value="null">--Please choose--</option>
<option value="Meeting/Training/Seminar room">Meeting / training / seminar room</option>
<option value="Computer Suite">Computer Suite</option>
<option value="Examination room">Examination room</option>
<option value="Lecture theatre / auditorium">Lecture theatre / auditorium</option>
<option value="Other">Other type of venue</option>
</select>
I'm guessing that it's possible to do this using onchange, but am not too great with Javascript .

I have a form with two select fields (facility[] and lightbox[]), along with a few other text inputs. Both of the select fields allow the user to select multiple options. This is fine for our needs, as long as the user only selects fields from within one select box. As soon as the user decides to make a selection from the other select field, I'd like to permit that, but clear all other selections from the first field.

Have the following code which (resides in a dialog box) and serves as an event listener for check boxes. Am able to populate / de-populate text field with values from check boxby checking or unchecking the individual check boxes:
// Event listener which picks individual contacts// and populates input field.
$('#emailCheckListId_ul input:checkbox').change(function() {
// Declare array
var emails = [];
[Code].....
However, when I use try to use theJQuery Tagifyplug-in it only creates one "tagified dynamic label" inside the text field but doesn't create another label when I click on an additional check box. Also, when I uncheck the original checkbox, itdoesn't remove the original label.
Here's my code using the JQuery tagify plug-in (all I did was keep everything the same as above but called the tagify functionon the text field):
// Add / Remove array from text fieldtextField.value = emails;
// Decorate with dynamic label
$(textField).tagify(emails);
I get this JavaScript error in the browser:
jquery.tagify.js: 'options' is undefined, line 71
In the source code this line reads:
_setOption: function( key, value ) { options.key = value;
},
Its stating that options.key is undefined...
To view the jquery.tagify.js complete source, clickhere.
Is there a way I can create an "else" for example:
// Iterate through each array and put email addresses into array$('#emailCheckListId_ul input:checkbox:checked').each(function(){
// do something
});
[Code]....

I am populating a number of Select boxes on the server-side with a large number of options. I'd like to get the response size down without taxing the client browser too much. What do you think is the most efficient way to approach this problem?
Here are some considerations: The option text/values do not change very often, but could potentially change in the future. The page that holds the select boxes should never be cached, there are other aspects of the page that need to remain fresh. Firebug with YSlow is saying that the primed cache size of the page is 300Kb with all the select dropdowns and options, if I remove the options, the primed cache size of the page is 80Kb. I am considering breaking out the text/value pairs for the select boxes into a separate file that is cache-able calling it "valueTextPairs.js" and referencing it with a query string and some sort of server-generated MD5 hash of the data, so that if any of the values change, the client's cached version will be replaced by the latest version. Like so:[URL]...
Provided I do this, I anticipate that the primed cache size of the page will be reduced down to 80Kb (which I like) -- however, before I take the plunge, I am curious what you all think the performance effect will be?
I know the number of bytes on the wire will be reduced, but will this put a lot of additional pressure on the client's browser because I'd need to traverse the name/value pairs and add the options to the select boxes dynamically on the client end? If it seems reasonable to do this, what jQuery approach would be the most efficient? $('#selectId').html(options) with options = one big string? Adding each child option to the select in a loop? Something else?
Some client end folks are using IE6 so I am trying to tax the browser as little as possible, while also reducing the size of each request, trying to find a happy medium..

I have a select field. I must fill with options taken from a mysql table.Here is some little php code I have done using codeigniter framework
$idcateg = trim($this->input->post('idcategory'));
$array1 = array(
'result' => $idcateg
);
echo json_encode($array1);
Now, the jQuery call...
$.post("<?=base_url()?>index.php/rubro/list_ajax/", {
'idcategory' : idc },
function(data){
[code]....
The code works fine. When I call the post, I get the categoryid as a result.Now, I should modify the code above, so I can do:post the ajax call sending the category id. this is done get subcategories for this category, and build the array * json_encode the array and echo * get results back in jQuery ajax call, decode and build the < select > field *The array should be built with each element having a sub-array with id and name, right?

I am developing a small app in Joomla! where I need to sequentially number file folders. On the page where I add new folders I have a select menu to select the type of folder. In this case, either Action, Reference, or Archive. What I want to have happen is after I select the type of folder, I want to enter the next available number in the form field. I realize to do this without resubmitting the page I need to use javascript and onchange. The problem is I am almost clueless when it comes to javascript (I am working on it though) so I need some help. This is what I have.
Code:
<fieldset class="adminform">
<legend><?php echo JText::_( 'Folders' ); ?></legend>
<table class="admintable">
[code]...
I assume I have to pass my php array into a javascript array then call that based on my select menu. Only I have no clue how to go about doing that.
