I have a form with two select fields (facility[] and lightbox[]), along with a few other text inputs. Both of the select fields allow the user to select multiple options. This is fine for our needs, as long as the user only selects fields from within one select box. As soon as the user decides to make a selection from the other select field, I'd like to permit that, but clear all other selections from the first field.

I have a form where a user may select a box from above which will query the database and autofill in the fields. This works properly for all of my input text fields but I have a select box where a user selects their state that I am unable to get to properly populate.
The select box is populated on page load in the following format....

Everything populates correctly except where I try to set the val on the state select field. It does not change at all. I need it to display the statename with the value of the state (number).
I'm not sure if my term usage is correct, but using a select form field with various options. I would like that when an option is selected, a php query is performed, and the rest of the form is updated according to the selection based query.

Currently I'm using :contains but this is unacceptable because it selects the last item that contains the cfparam.

On the page where I add new folders I have a select menu to select the type of folder. In this case, either Action, Reference, or Archive. What I want to have happen is after I select the type of folder, I want to enter the next available number in the form field. I realize to do this without resubmitting the page I need to use javascript and onchange. The problem is I am almost clueless when it comes to javascript (I am working on it though) so I need some help. This is what I have.

The thing is that the script basically works.. however when you've made a selection only the disabling works everytime but the divs are only updated once, so you need to refresh the page if you want to do it again..

It's fine if there are only 2 sets, but once you add a 3rd or 4th it breaks. making a choice of either regular non-member or student member & then changing to another choice fails to disable the last button and also fails to clear selections.note that it is not a requirement that i use radio buttons for the disabled/enabled choices; they could be checkboxes instead.

I am new to javascript stuff but am looking to develop a form which includes 2 drop down menus but I would like to grey out some options in the second one based on the selection in the first. Basically this is a simplification of what I have:
