JQuery :: Disable The Space Bar On A Particular Form Field?
Feb 14, 2011
I just wonder if this is even possible, I'm not a jquery programmer by any means, but I hope I can use it for the purpose of my project. I know wordpress includes jquery automatically, so I wanted to see if I can take advantage of it

jQuery.validator.setDefaults({

I have a web form with several fields. If I copy & paste from a RTF document into a field, the javascript validation and field length are bypassed and cause the form to fail.

With the code I had to acknowledge nothing had been inserted,(that is, still spaces, it was working. When I added the code to only accept alpha chars etc., I inserted numbers, nothing worked, with no error message. Would you, or can I send the whole code through for the form. I noticed that the form tags had been changed so I altered them as well according to your message.

I am trying to adapt the form validation script at [URL] to a site that already has tons of pages with forms. Unfortunately, the forms include selection lists that often have SELECT names with white spaces included, and these do not work when passed as a variable to the frmvalidator function
This works:
frmvalidator.addValidation("Country","dontselect=0");
This does not work:
frmvalidator.addValidation("My Country","dontselect=0");
The site I want to use the script on is being database generated and has something like 25,000 item pages, each with several SELECT list options. The Option variable uploaded to the database looks like:
Code:
"Optional Out Going Mail Slot" "Choose" "None, " "Add Mailslot in Top Left (Item # na) (+$15.00)" "Add Mailslot in Top Right (Item # na) (+$15.00)" "Add Mailslot in Bottom Left (Item # na) (+$15.00)" "Add Mailslot in Bottom Right (Item # na) (+$15.00)"so it would be a serious task to download the database, loop through and replace white-space characters with dashes or underscores on the first element in each option sequence. Is there some way to make names with white spaces work? I could switch to a script that simply checks all selection lists to make sure that option 0 is not selected. But I love all the other features of name, format and combined verification in the above script. Unfortunately, the script relies on the name and validation action of each form element being passed to its function onSubmit.

My form isn't returning any results when submitting the form if the user hits the <spacebar> or the <enter> key on the keyboard when tabbed over the image submit button.
<input name="Submit_notes" type="image" value="Submit_notes" src="images/pp_but_blu_addentry.gif" />
Should I make it so the user can't submit with the keyboard? (if so how) or is there another way?

I have a form with some text fields that are disabled UNLESS a checkbox is checked. Initially the text fields are disabled and the checkbox is unchecked.
The code is something like this:
Code:
function disableTextbox() {
if (chk.checked) {
txt.disabled = false;
} else {
txt.disabled = true;
}
}
<form action=something.cfm>
<input type=checkbox name=chk onclick=disableTextbox();>
<input type=text name=txt disabled>
<input type=submit>
</form>
When the form is submitted, some validation is performed. If anything fails, I display an error message and show a link to go back (history.back).
The problem that I am having is that when you click on the link to go back, the checkbox on the form is checked, but the text fields are disabled.
You have to re-click the checkbox to update the text field.

I'm looking for a way to disable an entire form until someone checks a check box. I would like it if the form is visible but has a "grayed out" look, and cannot be submitted.
So by default the form elements are all disabled. Once the checkbox is clicked the elements are enabled.

I have this working with the code below, but for some reason if I go back and select choice 1 after selecting choice 2 the text field remains disabled. I only want it to be disabled if choice 2 is selected.

I've have a function to take the value entered in a form text box, add 50 to it and put the result in another text box.
When I enter 650.5 I get 700.5 exactly how I'd expect. But when I enter -650.5 instead of getting -600.5 I get -650.050 as though it is failing to parse the float due to it being negative. My understanding of parseFloat was that it recognises negative numbers. Is there a nice simple way to get this to work?

The following form validation script works, currently if one of the five fields are completed, a message appears the remaining field(s) must be completed etc. Although the information the user has inputted in the first field is cleared. How can this information be available, if there is one problem in the form it doesn't make sense that the user must re-input all the information again. I look forward to hearing your response,
function validate_form ( )

Everywhere proposed solution
$('form').submit(function() {
$(":submit").attr("disabled", "disabled");
});
doesn't work for me, because in that case the button name and value won't be included in the request to the server (because the button is disabled), and I've got a situation where I need to know which button was clicked to submit the form.Is there any way to disable the submit button AFTER the form submission, so it would be included in the request?

my javascript code is only validating one field at a time (as in it validates on field then submits the form, instead of going through the entire thing and then returning it as true and submitting it...) I'm not sure what to do to be honest, I've looked up google to no real avail.. my variables are declared in a seperate file to the actual even handlers and I have heaps of comments through out it, so please don't judge lol i'm still learning Quote:
//Event Registrations (Variable Declarations) found in validation_chkr.js
//Validate Entire Form using validate_join()
function validate_join()
