Is there a way to do it so that when listnav initially appears on the page, no items are shown? In other words, is there a way to just have the alphabetized index show with no initial display of anything else?
View 10 RepliesI have succesfully applied the datepicker to a blank textbox. However, when I apply the datepicker to a textbox with the initial value dynamically set to display a value from a database, the date picker genertes an error when anything on it is selected. The datepicker will display when the trigger icon is selected but you cannot select anything from the date picker without generating the following errors: When selecting:
a day: 'undefined' is null or not an object (ui.datepicker.js line 767) a month or year: 'input' is null or not an object (ui.datepicker.js line 755) a back or forward arrow: 'settings' is null or not an object (u.i datepicker.js line 1137) I have looked at these lines in the file, but I have no idea where to begin.
I am looking for a push in the right direction for a few problems i am running into; my first problem is I have to create a script element that contains the function amountTotal which should return the sum of all the values in the amount array. There are no parameters for this function, and I have to add the following commands to it.
1. declare a variable named total with an initial value of 0
2. create a for loop thatloops through all of the values in the amount array, at each iteration of the loop, add the current value of the array item to the value of the total variable.
3. and after the for loop is completed, return the value of the total variable.
The amount array has already been created and populated in a list.js file, I had to first create a script element pointing to it.

I have my entire code written but i am trying to break it up and fix my problems 1 at a time: when i open the code, it does'nt display correctly ( which is another problem) but I ran the debugger and it says my total is undefined. ( this is in another section of my code), but I guess my function is wrong somewhere.
The listnav count is getting an inline style of position: absolute and top: 0, sending it to the top of the page. I can add 83 pxls to the top attribute to get it to drop down to where I need it but I cannot find where to edit the inline style attribute of <div class="In-letter-count" style="display:none;position:absolute;top:83;left:805px;wisth:21px;"
How can I edit this attribute or Is there a better way to position this?
Instead of having ListNav default to one of the letters or All, how do I make it not load anything initially?I saw one person had figured it out, but didn't post his solution.

Basically if you click on "Blog" in the main navigation column, a second column next to it will Ajax loads "blog.html" that contains a list of "posts." If you click on one of the posts in the second column, a third column will load in with the content of the post.
While that's working fine, if you click "Blog" again, this is where the script goes haywire. Firebug shows over 20 GET requests on the second column. And then when you click on a link in the second column after that, an equal amount of GET requests is sent. You can even see the animations going crazy. I have no idea why this is happening.
It started to occur when I added the following lines to mainnav.js:
The reason why I added this was because I wanted to show the full slide out animation before the script Ajax loads another blog.html when "Blog" is clicked for the second time. Before I implemented the code above and loadContent function, the problem was that the slide out animation was cut off by the loading of the page. To prevent this, I thought using a callback function would work since callbacks occur after the animation is completed.
The only issue with this is that if you first load the page #listnav has no child elements. Therefore if you try using the following code:
...the callback function is never executed since there are no nav li elements until you click "Blog." That's why I tried to implement an if statement which checks if there are elements within #listnav, and it works fine on the first click, but any clicks after the script just bugs out.

I have a string that contains n items. Each item start with a '@' and the
item itself does not contains the '@a'.
For example the string looks like: "@one@two@three@four"
I have to output this string as "one, two, three and four".
So in fact the first '@' can be removed, the next except the last replaces
by ", " and the last one by the word "and ".
Is there a simple way doing this?
I have a dynamically generated table, filled from a database by a perl
application.
Each row represents a database record and has a 'status' and a unique 'id'.
What I want to do is create buttons to hide all rows with a particular
status. The code to show/hide is relatively easy, but how do I turn them
all off at once?
Several ideas I had:
1. Set the tr's 'id' attribute to the status (eg 'open') and then set that
id to display: none. But that only turns off the first one.
2. Do the same but somehow loop over all elements looking for that id.
3. Set the tr's 'id' attribute to the status plus the data's id (eg
'open.24') then loop over all elements matching the status with a regexp.
4. Doing something else that I haven't thought of yet.
Anyone have any advice and example code?
Right now, the array items print out without spaces like "Jane,John,Mary,Sue". I need to be able to work with the items individually so I can format them so they read "Jane, John, Mary and Sue". I thought I'd be able to do something like v[i] + ", " but I get an "undefined" when I try to alert for v[i]. Can someone point me in the right direction? Code:

I'm using the same code to do this on two different pages with the actual content of the menu's loading from a MySQL database using PHP scripts. [URL] On the menu.php page I left the code below in the mix which drops down the first category listed on the left. On the seasonal.php page I took the code below out and it no longer drops down any menu by default when the page is loaded. What I'd like to do is drop down nothing initially when the page is loaded but if someone opens up the "Cupcakes" category and clicks on an item it would keep that category open when it loads the item details in the center column. Here is the thing, I need to have parts of my website display different items depending on the browser (Netscape or Explorer). I have been using PHP to do this on 90% of the site, and it works great. However due to limitations on some pages (the shopping cart software) I cannot use PHP. When the page loads I can use Javascript, and I need it to load a specific header & footer for each browser type. I know that javascript cannot use SSI, so I would basically add everything into the one page and just have the script decide which chunk to add (the if or else statements get to decide I assume). The thing is I rarely use Javascript and when I do it has been extremely simple. here is the basic format I assume it will be using... (not in actual code though as I dont know javascript)

i'm after some script to display some html depending on what is selected in a list box
the html i want to display are checkboxes so it's more stuff for a form i'm using lotus notes, so i have to use javascript.
i can get it to display a checkbox if a particular item is selected but it won't show up in place, it loads a new page with the check box the only thing on that new page.

I have a form that I'm setting an initial value for every field using jQuery and the value of "title" attribute. When you click in the field, the initial value clears out. I need to validate the form, and make the user enter something in each field is indeed valid data.

I loop through this array and create an AJAX request to Google Analytics who returns the data I requested (or an error).
When the data comes back, I want to re-associate it with the object used to make it (as you can see, there might need to be an action performed on it and it should be stored with its ID so I can use it later).
I feel like I've read about a built-in way to pass along arbitrary information (in this case just getting an AJAX request with my made up "id" would be enough), but I can't find it anywhere, and I'm not explaining myself well enough to the Google to get results back.
