JQuery :: Lots Of Unwanted GET Requests - Implement If Statement Which Checks - Elements Within #listnav

Sep 4, 2011

Here's a demo of the work I have at the moment: [url]

Basically if you click on "Blog" in the main navigation column, a second column next to it will Ajax loads "blog.html" that contains a list of "posts." If you click on one of the posts in the second column, a third column will load in with the content of the post.

While that's working fine, if you click "Blog" again, this is where the script goes haywire. Firebug shows over 20 GET requests on the second column. And then when you click on a link in the second column after that, an equal amount of GET requests is sent. You can even see the animations going crazy. I have no idea why this is happening.

It started to occur when I added the following lines to mainnav.js:

The reason why I added this was because I wanted to show the full slide out animation before the script Ajax loads another blog.html when "Blog" is clicked for the second time. Before I implemented the code above and loadContent function, the problem was that the slide out animation was cut off by the loading of the page. To prevent this, I thought using a callback function would work since callbacks occur after the animation is completed.

The only issue with this is that if you first load the page #listnav has no child elements. Therefore if you try using the following code:

...the callback function is never executed since there are no nav li elements until you click "Blog." That's why I tried to implement an if statement which checks if there are elements within #listnav, and it works fine on the first click, but any clicks after the script just bugs out.

JQuery :: Listnav Count Appears At Top?

Apr 28, 2010

The listnav count is getting an inline style of position: absolute and top: 0, sending it to the top of the page. I can add 83 pxls to the top attribute to get it to drop down to where I need it but I cannot find where to edit the inline style attribute of <div class="In-letter-count" style="display:none;position:absolute;top:83;left:805px;wisth:21px;"

How can I edit this attribute or Is there a better way to position this?

JQuery :: Pagination Using ColdFusion And SQL Server And Lots Of Records?

Jun 18, 2009

OK so I've been searching for a week now for an example of pagination of data using jquery, ColdFusion and SQL server. I'm finding tons of examples using PHP and MySQL. Have any of you successfully got pagination working with Fusion and SQL Server? I am trying to run a report that could end up having thousands of results that I would like to paginate using jquery. Most of the pagination plugins though rely on you returning ALL of the results to the client first whether in JSON, XML or just straight to the browser as a table and then it paginates them. So if there are thousands of results this is not optimal. I'd like to try and get something working where as it paginates it goes to the database using Fusion and just grabs the next X records to display.

Lots Of Booleans

Jul 23, 2005

I have a situation where I have many (more than 32) boolean flags:

var foo=true;
var bar=false;
var baz=false;
// etc.

At various points in the script, these flags may be set or unset.
There is a point where an action is to be taken only if all the flags
are false. I also need to debug this check of all flags - i.e., print
out the value of all 32+ of these flags. I'd like to find something
besides a monstrous conditional - for example, using an integer and
storing these flags as bits in it, except that since there are more
than 32 of these flags an integer will not contain all of them.

Add LOTS Of Tag Attributes?

Aug 12, 2011

I attempting to set attributes for all tags of a particular type....

I have a bunch of thumbnails <img> tags; when I wand over them I would like to show the corresponding large image with a script but the tags require onMouseOver events. I really don't feel like adding a bunch of onMouseOver="myShowScript" attributes to every img tag manually...

my scripts aren't working. I'm sure there is some fundamental concept about java and html I don't get...

here's ONE of the versions that doesn't work.. I've tried a few things but I'm open to scrapping everything for a better way...

function addAtts(){
var numberOf = document.getElementsByTagName("img");
for(i = 0; i < numberOf.length; i++){
numberOf[i].onMouseOver="myShowScript()";
}

JQuery :: Unwanted Selection Of Html Element

Feb 15, 2011

This is probably more of an HTML question than anything else, so my apologies if it's out of place.I'm using a series of spans within a div to act as filters (selectors) to hide/show various divs. When the user clicks on the text within the span, the span toggles a "selected" class, and also triggers a function to hide the associated divs. My problem is that occasionally the area around the text (the entire span, it would seem) gets "selected" when clicked on and turns blue, obscuring the text. Here are two screenshots, one showing the word "lambs" correctly, the other showing the same word with the unwanted blue background. Question: is there any way to make this not happen? Should I be using different elements as the selectors?

JQuery :: Table Row Click That Checks Checkbox In Same Row

Dec 21, 2010

I've got it working; Clicking on the row will check the box, however now clicking the checkbox itself doesn't work I'm guessing because. It's registering as two events for that one click: One for the row that checks the mark. Two for the checkbox (which is now checked) that unchecks it. The user can click on the row but not on the checkbox itself.

Ideally since the checkbox table cell as some padding (user can click outside the <input>), I'd rather not disable the row click on that cell specifically.
$('.rule_event_table tbody tr').click(function(){
$(this).find('input:checkbox').each(function() {
if(this.checked) this.checked = false; // toggle the checkbox
else this.checked = true;
})});

JQuery :: IE Caching AJAX Requests?

May 14, 2009

It looks like IE is caching the response for some AJAX requests here. The app I'm working on is a catalog of sorts. Clicking the link for a category loads a set of "items". Those, in turn, may be deleted from the admin view. The delete works fine (I checked the DB) but, when loading the same set of category items, I'm seeing the list unchanged. That is, the thing that was deleted is still there. Sorry for the crap explanation but I'm not really sure of a better way of putting it. Bottom line is, has anyone seen this sort of behavior with IE before? Can it cache the result of an AJAX request like that? And, if so, how can I guard against that? Can I set cache-control headers for an AJAX request?

JQuery :: Process Several Asynchronous Http Requests At Once?

Can I do the following without my program crashing? [code]...

I have created an application that does something similar to the code I just posted. However, my program crashes intermittently. Sometimes it will crash after calling jQuery.get() a few times (with several http requests still pending). Other times it will get through all of them just fine.

I want to know if Ajax can handle that many asynchronous requests without crashing? Can someone look at this to see if there is something I am missing?

I'm getting response from the $.getJSON function only when the $.post is over. Is this a bug or a mistake from me ? My aim is to launch a long request and fire multiple other requests to check how is doing the first one.

Removing Unwanted Characters

In a web based form I am able to make sure that there is text in an input field but I want to restrict the user from using such characters as ~ # & '

How can I modify this JavaScript below to enable this ?

if (document.form1.ProjectTitle.value == ""){
alert("Please complete the Project Title: field")
document.form1.ProjectTitle.focus()
validFlag = false
return validFlag
}

When entering the project title into another system it issues an error when those characters are input - hence the need to delete them from the request.

Preventing Unwanted Characters

May 7, 2006

Instead of searching and replacing unwanted character in strings using cgi/perl, I would like to prevent some characters from ever being typed in text boxes and textfields. Two characters I would like to stop are "|" (pipe symbol) and the "carriage return". I am not even sure how to search and/or replace a carriage return in a string anyway. This may be a JavaScript function, because what I would really like to do is send an alert to tell the user that it is not allowed.
