Multiple Array And Display - Declare A Variable Named Total With An Initial Value Of 0
Sep 17, 2010
I am looking for a push in the right direction for a few problems i am running into; my first problem is I have to create a script element that contains the function amountTotal which should return the sum of all the values in the amount array. There are no parameters for this function, and I have to add the following commands to it.
1. declare a variable named total with an initial value of 0
2. create a for loop thatloops through all of the values in the amount array, at each iteration of the loop, add the current value of the array item to the value of the total variable.
3. and after the for loop is completed, return the value of the total variable.
The amount array has already been created and populated in a list.js file, I had to first create a script element pointing to it.
This is what i had for my link to the list.js file and funtion :
I have my entire code written but i am trying to break it up and fix my problems 1 at a time: when i open the code, it does'nt display correctly ( which is another problem) but I ran the debugger and it says my total is undefined. ( this is in another section of my code), but I guess my function is wrong somewhere.
I have 9 select menus that are populated by a php for loop. Each has a numeric value that is displayed base on the selection (which I have working).I can not figure out how to sum all of these values and display them in a <div> tag.what I have thus far:
// Part of a function that creates drop down boxes <select name="$name" onchange="document.getElementById('cost_$name').firstChild.nodeValue = this.options[this.selectedIndex].getAttribute('cost_$name')">
I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function:
function show_video1(){ document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block"; var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)"; document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none"; [Code]...
and trying to call it later on with this: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name.
a.) specify two parameters for the changeYear function: today and holiday.
function changeYear(today)(holiday){
b.) in the first line of the above function, use the getFullYear() date method to extract the 4-digit value from the today variable and store the value in a variable named year.
first line
c.) in the second line; use the setFullYear() date method to set the full year of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.
second line
d.) in the third line, use a conditional operator on the year variable. The test condition is whether the value of the holiday date object is less than the today date object. If it is, this means that the event has already passed in the current year and the value of the year variable should be increased by 1.
third line
e.) in the fourth line of the function, again set the full year value of the holiday date object to the value of the year variable.
I need to iterate through a group of arrays and search for a user-chosen word every time.
The problem is i can't declare how many array elements will be needed, such as: new array = (12), because some words inside my arrays, occur more than others.
So i need to decalare an empty array with x number of possible values.
How to declare and initialize an array with key/values using JavaScript and then dynamically creating select dropdown and assigning key/values to the options using JavaScript?
I have been working on a few budget scripts that I can access from the web in using HTML. My problem is that when variable values change I need to change these values in all of the HTML files on the server. I know that there is a way to declare global variables in a single file and use those values in another file but I have not been able to find any information that tells me exactly how to do this. I have tried to put it together on my own using what little informaiton I have been able to find but have not been able to get this to work. Is there a more detailed referance that I can find somewhere or does anyone know what steps I need to take to make this happen?
I have a function which has a nested function in it. I need some variables in the first function to be available in the nested function. How am I supposed to declare a global variable in jquery?
Is there a way to do it so that when listnav initially appears on the page, no items are shown? In other words, is there a way to just have the alphabetized index show with no initial display of anything else?
I need to keep the 'NAME' as an array as above because of the form processing that is used after submit.
I was really hoping to use Javascript to validate the form and make sure that each checkbox group has at least one option selected , but my javascript messes up because the 'NAME' is Q1[] as opposed to Q1. I had been using:
<script> function validate() { if (!(mainform.Q1[0].checked || mainform.Q1[1].checked|| mainform.Q1[2].checked)) { alert('Please answer question 1.'); event.returnValue=false; }} </script>
but this only works when I name the checkboxes NAME="Q1". Is anyone aware of how to get the validate function to work (or another way of validating the form) even when the checkboxes and radio buttons are named like NAME="Q1[]".
I've recently started developing javascript using jQuery and so far I'm really enjoying it.Being a professional programmer (mainly C, C++, java and python) there is one thing that's been puzzling me regarding variable scope and unnamed function declarations. Let me exemplify:
------------------------ var sum = 0; $(xmlobj).find("item").each(function(){
Code JavaScript: var cookies="cookies_and_cookies_cookies_cookies" var blah_blah_blah="whatever" function reallycool(cookies){ document.write("whatever you like to do" +cookies); }
what this won't print when I have named the function and have a variable in the parameter and I can't see any errors in the syntax ?
I have a working example of jQuery validate working in the link below. The newsletter checkbox is required and working. However, the "colors" checkboxes are all named as an array ( ex: name="color[]" ), and so the problem lies in the validation code, where it uses the name of the element to require elements ( ex: newsletter: "required" ).
I have succesfully applied the datepicker to a blank textbox. However, when I apply the datepicker to a textbox with the initial value dynamically set to display a value from a database, the date picker genertes an error when anything on it is selected. The datepicker will display when the trigger icon is selected but you cannot select anything from the date picker without generating the following errors: When selecting:
a day: 'undefined' is null or not an object (ui.datepicker.js line 767) a month or year: 'input' is null or not an object (ui.datepicker.js line 755) a back or forward arrow: 'settings' is null or not an object (u.i datepicker.js line 1137) I have looked at these lines in the file, but I have no idea where to begin.
my site sells tickets for train journeys in Ukraine. it collects all the user inputs and the final price variable is passed to the final payment screen.. these variavles are passed using PHP session variables.I have a script which collects a total price and then offers the user the option of a return ticket. the PHP session variables are converted to javascript and the final total is calculated, before the total is passed to paypal for payment. the script works fine, but i am lost as to what i need to put in the (value ="") form that is submitted to paypal.
I have a Javascript that calculates and displays how long, in minutes and seconds a user has been in online(Google Gears development) mode on a given web page. I need however, to modify the script so that it calculates and displays how long the user has been online on the web site. For e.g. on page 1 for 2 minutes 12 seconds. Moves to page 2 - total time on page 1 and 2= 4 minutes 13 seconds. My script (see below) starts a second counter then converts that to minutes and seconds. I have tried passing the secVar0 variable in the url but that comes back "undefined".
