JQuery :: After Function To Add DIV Following Floated Elements
May 9, 2011
I am using after() to add a div after another floated div. However because the div is floated the added one is not being positioned at the bottom of it. How to get the added div to appear after the floated one.

I have a bunch of floated divs and I want to increment a variable every time they 'jump' to the next line. When I try using offset() for this I get the same top,left cords for every single element. Is there any way of getting the actual offset? (I get the same result in FF and Chrome)

I am trying to use JS to change the display.style property of a div from block to none in order to hide and show it. I find that my code works in Firefox but not in IE. Furthermore, I find that the code works fine in IE if the div Im trying to show/hide is not floated, but when it IS floated then Im able to hide the div but unable to re-show it once its been hidden. Finally, I find that when the div Im trying to show/hide is floated left and is the left-most element on the page, it works fine, but when I have another element floated left before it, then it fails to re-show once its hidden. Here is my code. In order to solve this problem I have removed all other code form my website, so this is the only code. The HTML:

I'm trying to create a scrolling menu. Example here [URL] I don't think there's an issue with the javascript necessarily. I've tried alternatively using jquery's animate function with scrollLeft and I still get the flickering. I'm thinking it's more to do with the HTML/CSS. For instance I'm wondering if using a table instead of a floated list for the menu might be a step in the right direction.
Code PHP:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<title>Gallery</title>
<style type="text/css">

Is it possible to hide more than one element using one .hide(); For example can something like this be done -
$('#one', '#two', '#three').hide();
as opposed to listing them individually like -
$('#one').hide();
$('#two').hide();
$('#three').hide();

I try to make something where you add elements, and can delete elements later by calling a simple function. I simplyfied it right here: It works only to add the paragraphs, but the delete function doesn't work. Tried already to debug with an alert message after each rule... but the problem is with this rule I guess:

I'm sure this is much simpler than I have been making it seem in my head so I'm giving up and asking Basically I have a html document being dynamically created by php. In the markup I create some divs (the number of which changes between pages) all of which belong to the same class (class="div") and have id's of the same format (id="div_90001" or "div_88926773"). What I want to do is perform a function on eachelementin the class and extract the number in the id and then perform a function with the number (AJAX) and then return the results to the div (probably some extra markup)
I can handle all the AJAX parts, the extracting of the id number etc... I just can't make a function that will work on all elements in a class. I fear I am not making much sense, I'll try again cos I don't think I'd understand what's above. I have some divs that belong to a class, I want to perform the same function on each of the elements in the class. How is this done?

I already make this line of code
$('#bank').click(function(event){
// request form
$('#middle').load('form/bank.html');
$('#butang').click(function(){
[Code].....
Which means, once after a link namely as "bank" is clicked,then it will extract the bank.html contentinto the middle div. And I already put a button ID named as "butang" over that bank.html. But why after the content is nicely rendered, I can't obtain the alert?
Hmmm... even when I clicking, clicking, and clicking many times at the button named as "butang", can not also give me an alert. How could I apply a jquery into a new html rendered as it firstly it's not there?

I have a scenario where the user can click a delete button to remove a dynamic element from the page. Whent he button is clicked I want the element to slide up and then be removed from the DOM. I can't make this work however. I can either slide it up or remove it. how to force the remove function to wait until the animation
is complete?

I want to change the elements class name dynamically when mouse is out with respect to that element.I want to change the class name after some delay (i.e, i am using settimeout function).
var ulNodes = getElementsByClass("nice-menu");
var liNodes = null;
for(var i = 0; i < ulNodes.length; i++) {
liNodes = ulNodes[i].getElementsByTagName("li");
for(j = 0; j < liNodes.length; j++) {
if(liNodes[j].className == "menuparent") {
liNodes[j].onmouseout=function(){
timer = window.setTimeout(function (){
this.className = "menuparent"; //My problem is with //this line
},4000);
} } } }
I need to set the elemets class name to "menuparent" after some delay after the pointer moves away form that element.
-> When ever i say alert(this.className); in the setTimeout function, the alert box says undefined.
-> I can succesfully alert any where else in the mouseout function except within the settimeout function in mouseover function of that element.

I am fairly new with jQuery and am trying to figure something out. I am trying to update multiple SPAN elements on my page using the $.get function. So far this is the code I have...
I can loop through and verify it is catching all of them
This outputs the data I am expecting from the GET
How can I set the data returned to the innerHTML of the current span element in the loop?
I have tried $(this).innerHTML and this.innerHTML, but neither worked

I use the following code to add a "click" behaviour to an element:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#element_id").click (function(){
...... do something ....
[Code]....
Part of the node I clone is the element from the first piece of code I quoted. The addRowJob function also changed the ID of every element in the node I cloned. This way all IDs remain unique. Lets say the element in question has the ID "#element_id". Now I clone the node (which includes the element) and the cloned element gets its ID changed to "#element_id_new".
Of course I now want this newly append element ("#element_id_new") to have a click event attached to, but even if extend my $(document).ready(function() to:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#element_id").click (function(){
...... do something ....
});
[Code].....
I simply doesn't work for the appended element.
My guess is that the $(document).ready(function(){ only fires when the document is finished loading. At this stage there is no element with the ID "#element_id_new" and therefore the click event can't be attached to the element. Makes senses...
But how do I get this click event attached to the newly appended element with the ID "#element_id_new"?

I'm having a bit of an issue with IE. For some reason on this page: [URL]. When the right panel #content slides in, the background of the parent div #bgfield also slides in with it. I can't find anything linking the two. The line of code for the slide looks like this:
$("#content").css({'margin-right' : '-651px' }).animate( { marginRight: "0px" }, 1200 );
The associated CSS looks like
/* Styles for Div holding the bg image */
#bgfield {
position: relative;
width: 900px;
height: 448px;
border: solid 10px #FFFFFF;
/* background-image: url(images/transparent.gif); -- set this in each page */
background-position: center top;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
text-align: center;
padding-top: 112px;
overflow: hidden;
}
/* Styles for main Content */
#bgfield #content {
float: right;
position: relative;
background-attachment: scroll;
background-image: url(../images/rightbg87pc.png);
background-position: right top;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
overflow: hidden;
height: 275px;
width: 651px;
text-align: left;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
color: #000000;
margin-right: 0px;
}

I made this function to duplicate form elements with a little html-code surrounding the input fields. First i clone the html of the first child found (always gets rendered by php). Then, everytime the add-button is pushed, i append a cloned piece of that stored html. It's working fine except for the delete button.
It's seems that whenever a cloned html is removed, the other cloned elements aren't recognized anymore by the delete buttons (although the delete buttons are in them)

I have this function:
Code:
$(function () {
$('#Tags').tagSuggest({
separator: ", ",
[code]....
This references the #Tags element which is an input text box. I would like this function to run on another element also (#Tags2). So if either the #Tags or #Tags2 text boxes are used, the function runs.How can I extend this function rather than duplicating it?

For example, set onmouseclick event function of all images on a page to do the same thing. I want it to be the "default" function, that it applies to all images I create later on with JS. Look at this code, it's just the concept:
Code:
images.onmouseclick=function(){alert("an image was clicked")} //I know the "images" object doesn't exist
a=document.createElement("img");
document.appendChild(a); // an alert box should open when this new image is clicked.
// an alert box should open when any other image is clicked.

I'm trying to use unobtrusive javascript for a page I am building. I want to insert a "bookmark me" item into the page. This is the script I am using:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[URL]" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head><title>Page</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/css/base.css" />
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function add_favorite() {
document.getElementById('bookmark').innerHTML="<a href="#" rel="sidebar" onclick="if(navigator.appName=='Microsoft Internet Explorer'){ window.external.AddFavorite(location.href, document.title); return false; }else{ this.title = document.title; }" onMouseover="window.status='Bookmark Us';return true" onMouseout="window.status=";return true" title="Bookmark This Page"><img src="/images/bookmark65-3.png" alt="Bookmark This Page" /></a>";
} window.onload=add_favorite();
-->
</script></head><body>
<div id="wrapper">
<div id="header">
<h1>Heading goes here...</h1>
<div id="bookmark">
</div></div>
<div id="main">
<h2>Content goes here...</h2>
</div><div id="footer">
Footer goes here...
</div></div></body></html>
It's pretty simple stuff that just populates an empty div with an image link to bookmark the page when users have javascript enabled. Now when I call the function using <body onload="add_favorite();"> and cancel out the window.onload=add_favorite(); from the script it works just fine (it throws a line-1 syntax error up in IE that I can't figure out, but functionally everything still works in IE7 and FF2). When I try to do it the "unobtrusive" way I get nothing at all in either browser.
A little debugging revealed that the function is indeed being called and is running successfully, however the function is somehow unable to locate the element with ID of "bookmark" when it is fired with window.onload and as a result I get no bookmarking link. It's almost like window.onload is triggering itself too soon, before the div of "bookmark" is in the page, but how can that be?
