JQuery :: Why Parts Of Parent Elements Sliding With Animate Function
Jun 30, 2009
I'm having a bit of an issue with IE. For some reason on this page: [URL]. When the right panel #content slides in, the background of the parent div #bgfield also slides in with it. I can't find anything linking the two. The line of code for the slide looks like this:
$("#content").css({'margin-right' : '-651px' }).animate( { marginRight: "0px" }, 1200 );
The associated CSS looks like
/* Styles for Div holding the bg image */
#bgfield {
position: relative;
width: 900px;
height: 448px;
border: solid 10px #FFFFFF;
/* background-image: url(images/transparent.gif); -- set this in each page */
background-position: center top;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-attachment: scroll;
text-align: center;
padding-top: 112px;
overflow: hidden;
}
/* Styles for main Content */
#bgfield #content {
float: right;
position: relative;
background-attachment: scroll;
background-image: url(../images/rightbg87pc.png);
background-position: right top;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
overflow: hidden;
height: 275px;
width: 651px;
text-align: left;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
color: #000000;
margin-right: 0px;
}

I have 2 divs on a page, the outer div has an inner div nested within it, both have different background images set to them. I managed to program the following fine:
$(function(){
$("div.outer").hover(
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({"opacity": "0"}, "slow");
},
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({"opacity": "1"}, "slow");
});
});
So that when you hover over the div, the inner div with the background image fades in, and then out on rollout. Why will the following code not slide the inner div up and down:
$(function() {
$("div.outer").hover(
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({top:"-200px"},{queue:false,duration:200});
},
function() {
$("div.inner").stop().animate({top:"0px"},{queue:false,duration:200});
});
});
I am using jQuery 1.5 min.

I have a toggle animation which puts the area I want to show to the user in view, ones that animation has played I want to animate several other objects on the page. I have the code to animate one object by using the callback function in animate. But is it possible to animate several objects in the callback function?. this is the code I have so far
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".navigaat").toggle(function(){
$(".mover").animate({left: '0px' }, 'slow',"", function() { $(".blok").animate( { fontSize:"160px" } , 1000 )});

Hides the element by sliding it down.
$("div").click(function () { $(this).hide("slide", { direction: "down" }, 1000); });
I am new to Jquery. How do I reverse this code to slide element into viewport as opposed to slide out of view port. This is the link to the effect [URL]. What I want to do is the element will be hidden originally on loading the page and then slides into view with a click anywhere on the page, an anchor or after a few seconds.

i (more-or-less) understand how animation queuing works when animating a single element, but what's the best practice or most efficient approach for animating 2 different elements in a sequence? callbacks on complete?this example animates #black and #white simultaneously, when what i'd like to do is animate #black, then #white:[code]

Just wondering if it is possible to let a huge blue block be moved 200px to the right and everything that is right of the blue block will move with it? So the elements adjust to the blue block's position

I tried to enumerate through a index array to assign different ids to newly retrieved JSON data, the li element is initially set to be hidden and the hidden data can be seen from console. But the browser is failing to show the data when I tried to use ('li#a').animate({opacity: "show"}, "slow"); I also tried to use .animate right after each <li> appendTo the body and failed to show as well. I am wondering how to fix this? Is there any better way of handling this with out creating an enumerating array?

I have a list for example
<ul id="applications">
<li id="id-1" class="util"></li>
<li id="id-1" class="app"></li>
<li id="id-1" class="util"></li>
<li id="id-1" class="app"></li>
</ul>
Then I want a select some of the list with some animate effect, first the all of the elements would disappear, then the elements that I wanted would display one by one the code:
$('#applications li').each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.hide("slow");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});
$('#applications li[class="app"]').each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.fadeIn("fast");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});
The final effect is that all the elements would disappear first but the element I wanted would not display? Then I think about the queue,before I use it I change a little about the code:
$('#applications li').each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.hide("slow");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});
$('#applications li')
.each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.fadeIn("fast");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});
The yellow part is the different from the former one, the effect is that all the elements would disappear first, then all the would display again without any problem!

If slideToggle()'s parameters were expanded to include a separate callback for sliding up and sliding down. Or for backwards compatibility, perhaps include an optional boolean parameter in the callback to more easily discern between a slideUp and slideDown operation.

I'm using jQuery 1.4 to hide a div (#cartPop) when the "close" link inside of it (#cartPop a) is clicked. Since I'm using animate() to fade the div out (opacity), I also have to use hide() to get rid of the div once it has faded out (otherwise the invisible div, which is on a higher z-index, blocks the elements on a lower z-index).
Code:
The problem is that the hide() function calls immediately without waiting for the animate() function to run. Even if I append a delay() function before hide() like so:
Code:
...it still doesn't wait.

I used this tut to make a horizontal accordion.. but are trying to extend it to hide and show content like this example..(click the black "knowledge" box and the sample will slide up)but eventho the setup should be the same for expanding and opasity there is a opasity "blink" when hover over the expanded element but no collapsing. So the espanding/collapsing setup works, but not the Opasity part? [code]

Is there a way to use animate() with a map that has a function for the value, like you can with css()? I've tried {left: function(index) { return index * 50; }} and it doesn't do anything. I should note that I do get a "Warning: Error in parsing value for 'left'. Declaration dropped." message when it runs, so it's trying... just not creating an appropriate value.

I am doing this code that has multiple elements of the same type.... to select the parent DIV I had to use this code:
$(this).parent().parent().parent().parent().append($('#grid_show_columns'));
How can I do it without using that many parent() ?

I need to select the last children of parent elements
For example
<ul>
<li></li> <-This will have the background #1a
<li></li> <-This will have the background #1a
<li><ul>
[Code]....
So I would need the last children. If there is no nested element then that is considered the last child. I have to write a jquery script to apply a background to the last children. A nested element can have a nested element and then that element's children will be considered the last ones so they will get the background but not the parents of those children. If the item has no children then that item will have a background.
So there are 3 different backgrounds. Each letter a, b c will represent a lighter tone compared to the previous color. C is lighter than B, B is lighter than A etc. So this will have to be a "smart" system in which the ul li will be updated and depending if it is the last one inhierarchyit will not have the arrow.

I'm using the jQuery animate() function to expand a div to a certain size. first check this link to see the problem. [url]
You see 2 divs, the meaning of the divs, is when you click on them they will expand to another size.
The problem is, that the div on the right, expands to the right, and not to the left. The first div is correct.
I saw that you can use the CSS selectors (bottom, top, left, right) to set that direction, but when i use these, the div is placed on the right-edge of the screen, so i cant programm right, because there are different screen sizes, so the webpage isnt correct when another resolution comes in.

I was editing some javascript code yesterday that happened to use jquery. Part of the code selected two elements via jquery. Then the original author used nodeIndex to determine the position of each of these nodes in their parents. I could not find any documentation on nodeIndex on the jQuery site or anywhere else on the internet. It seemed to work in IE8, but I did not see the property from FireBug in FireFox 3.5. So I removed the call to nodeIndex and used a for loop to calculate my own equivalent of the nodeIndex. Is nodeIndex officially supported or meant for internal use? Is it documented anywhere? [URL]

But the callback function is not called.try it here:[URL]Now I want to always call the callback function.
