Invoking Code Depending On Return From Function?

Jun 3, 2010

:)Per JMRKER's suggestion I researched Query Strings and partially solved my original request on how to pass a parameter. Now I need to learn how after passing that parameter, how to invoke some code.In an html file I call the program listed below entitled "ShirleyLee.html". The call is initiated by the following statement: onclick="window.open('ShirleyLee.html?Player=WindowsMediaPlayer'"In the body of ShirleyLee.html I call a function in the <head> entitled "DeterminePlayer". This function will parce the url used to open ShirleyLee.html.I tested this code and it works. In the Javascript code located in the <body>, the If clause: "if (SplitQueryStringStoreInArray[1] == "WindowsMediaPlayer")" will trigger the Alert box which will then display "WindowsMediaPlayer" which was parced from the url in the DeterminePlayer function located in the <head>If you look further down, just below the function call in the <body> you will see 11 lines of code which is a table that is comprised of the code neccessary to utilize the Windows Media Player plus parameters.

My question is, how do I invoke this code in the true area of the conditional clause located in the <body> that now temporarily contains: "alert("Player = " + SplitQueryStringStoreInArray[1]);"The following is the file: "ShirleyLee.html"

<html>
<head>
<script language="javascript1.2" type="text/javascript">

JQuery :: .html() Function Return Only "static" Code?

Jun 20, 2010

I have a question about the jquery .html() function.

Here is a sample code ...

So when I call something like $("#testHtmlFunction").html(), then it returns me the following

Which is correct and expected. So everything is fine and dandy till now.

Now, let's say the user has change the input field text from "Sunil" to "Changed". So I will expect the same html() function call to return me something like

But it does not and keeps returning the same old stuff.

So my question is whether there is any other method which can give me the "changed" html code. And this happens not only for text fields but also for select and other elements too. So in other words, I need to be able to read the html code including selected, checked attributes etc. once the user has input responses on the form. Is this possible?

Carriage Return FOR Javascript Code

Oct 13, 2005

I'm trying to load an ASP recordset into a javascript array via an ASP array. The way I've been attempting to do it is by having ASP "Response.Write()" the javascript code that builds the javascript array. It ALMOST works :rolleyes:

The problem I'm having is that the ASP writes the different javascript lines as one long line (ie. no carriage returns). Therefore, the javascript lines are not recognized. When I take the source code and manually separate the lines produced...then when I run the modified source, it works fine. Code:

Sending A Different Arguments To A Function Depending On The PHP Script?

Jul 23, 2009

Using a simple example lets say there is this function in an external script:

Code:

function showmessage(arg){
alert(arg);
}

If we have different scripts eg page1.php, page2.php, page3.php etc

If each one of those scripts calls the function showmessage using different arguments eg page1.php calls it like this :

Code:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
showmessage("page1");
</script>

The above code would have to be embedded into the PHP file.

how can we go about doing that unobtrusively? Ie by not putting the code into the PHP files how can a different argument be passed to that function depending on what page is loaded?

Call Function Only If Another Function Does Not Return Error?

Feb 14, 2011

I'm trying to "progressively enhance" one of my surveys using javascript. Basically, I have rating scales that make use of radio buttons as each point on the scale. Each radio button occupies its own cell in a table. I wrote some functions that will highlight cells on mouseover in a color corresponding to its position on the scale (e.g. the lowest point is red, the midpoint is yellow, the highest point is green). When a radio button is clicked, the background of the button's cell and preceding cells in the same row will be colored accordingly. The functions are working well in FireFox and Chrome (I just have to add a few lines using the addEvent function to make it compatible with IE).

The effect looks a lot nicer when I add a function that makes the visibility of the radio buttons hidden.

However, I want to make sure that there is a fallback option in case the functions that color the cells don't work for whatever reason. I would not want the radio buttons hidden in this case.

Is there a method whereby I can call the "hideRadiobuttons" function only if the other functions are successfully executed?

Function To Hide Table Cells Depending On Whether Checkbox Is Checked Or Not

Sep 30, 2010

I am trying to write a Javascript function that checks whether certain checkboxes are checked or not, and then hides cells in a table if the corresponding checkbox is not checked, and makes cells visible if the corresponding checkbox is checked.

This is what I have so far:

Code:
<html>
<head>
<script language="JavaScript">

[Code]....

The above html gives a (3 rows x 2 columns) table where the checkbox in cell 1x1 (row1,column1) starts checked and corresponding cell 1x2 is visible - as required. However when checking or unchecking any of the checkboxes (which should run the javascript) the cell visibility is not changed.

Function - Compares Two Strings And Then Shows Or Hides A Div Depending On Results Of Comparison

Oct 8, 2011

I have been on this for over an hours now, it is probably something simple and/or stupid, but why doesn't this script work? I have read forums til my eyes are crossed and can't see what I am doing wrong I am new to javascript, but not programming. The point here is to create a function that compares two strings and then shows or hides a div depending on the results of the comparison. I was trying to pass in the name of the two input text boxes containing the text and the name of the div to show or hide (so that it can be used in multiple scenariios.) Right now my error message is that document.getElementById(field1).value is not a function.

Here is the code below..

Function Will Not Return Value

Aug 21, 2007

I am populating a field on my page using a php include. I am asking javascript to update another element with that field's value. The value written to the select input box is &#391;:Any Provider'. The process works fine in Firefox. In IE6 it does not write. the value nor does it throw an error. What am I doing wrong?

input form:
[PHP]<form method="post" action="" name="inputForm">
<label for="provider">Name of Provider</label><select class="input" name="provider" size="1" style="width: 20em"><?php nameprov();?></select>
<input type="button" name="button" value="Upload" onclick="postthis()">
<div id="status"></div>

</form>

The script in the head element:

function postthis(){
var provider = document.inputForm['provider'].value;
var report = document.getElementById("status");
var message="The Value of Provider Block is: " + provider;
report.innerHTML = message;
}

In firefox, "The Value of Provider Block is: 1:Any Provider" is written in the report element. In IE6, "The Value of Provider Block is : " is written in the report element.
