JQuery :: Function To Run Depending On Variable Value
May 27, 2011
$("#ltr").live("mouseover", function() {
//swap class names
$("div#container").removeClass("rtl").addClass("ltr");
});
I run this function to swap class names when there is a mouseover event on an image with the ID "ltr". How would I run this same function but to occur when, for example, a variable "distance" was equal to 0? Basically, if distance = 0 then swap class names

I have a multipage form. I can put data entered in hidden form elements from previous pages. I want to show or hide table rows depending on this data value.
For example, I collect a list of names in first form, but if some names are blank I dont want to show the table row associated with that name to collect more data.
I have seen loads of code to toggle rows but cant find any which shows me how to toggle on a variable.

I want to get javascript to show or hide a row in a table depending on whether a value is held by a variable collected in a mulitple part formmail. If only 1 adult fills in their name on the earlier form there is no need to show the row which asks him to agree to membership on a later form page. This is what Ive got so far<form name="frm3" method="post" action="bookingscript.php">
<input type="hidden" name="adult2fn" value="$adult2name" />
<script Language="JavaScript">
var name1 = document.frm3.adult2fn.value;
if(name1 =="")

Using a simple example lets say there is this function in an external script:
Code:
function showmessage(arg){
alert(arg);
}
If we have different scripts eg page1.php, page2.php, page3.php etc
If each one of those scripts calls the function showmessage using different arguments eg page1.php calls it like this :
Code:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
showmessage("page1");
</script>
The above code would have to be embedded into the PHP file.
how can we go about doing that unobtrusively? Ie by not putting the code into the PHP files how can a different argument be passed to that function depending on what page is loaded?

:)Per JMRKER's suggestion I researched Query Strings and partially solved my original request on how to pass a parameter. Now I need to learn how after passing that parameter, how to invoke some code.In an html file I call the program listed below entitled "ShirleyLee.html". The call is initiated by the following statement: onclick="window.open('ShirleyLee.html?Player=WindowsMediaPlayer'"In the body of ShirleyLee.html I call a function in the <head> entitled "DeterminePlayer". This function will parce the url used to open ShirleyLee.html.I tested this code and it works. In the Javascript code located in the <body>, the If clause: "if (SplitQueryStringStoreInArray[1] == "WindowsMediaPlayer")" will trigger the Alert box which will then display "WindowsMediaPlayer" which was parced from the url in the DeterminePlayer function located in the <head>If you look further down, just below the function call in the <body> you will see 11 lines of code which is a table that is comprised of the code neccessary to utilize the Windows Media Player plus parameters.
My question is, how do I invoke this code in the true area of the conditional clause located in the <body> that now temporarily contains: "alert("Player = " + SplitQueryStringStoreInArray[1]);"The following is the file: "ShirleyLee.html"
<html>
<head>
<script language="javascript1.2" type="text/javascript">

I am trying to write a Javascript function that checks whether certain checkboxes are checked or not, and then hides cells in a table if the corresponding checkbox is not checked, and makes cells visible if the corresponding checkbox is checked.
This is what I have so far:
Code:
<html>
<head>
<script language="JavaScript">
[Code]....
The above html gives a (3 rows x 2 columns) table where the checkbox in cell 1x1 (row1,column1) starts checked and corresponding cell 1x2 is visible - as required. However when checking or unchecking any of the checkboxes (which should run the javascript) the cell visibility is not changed.

I have previously developed two scripts, both of which work really well, however I want to amalgimate them together if possible? My first script loads the content specified into a single div, replacing the content depending on which function is called, it also displays a loading gif during a timeout of 2 seconds. Here is the page:

I have been on this for over an hours now, it is probably something simple and/or stupid, but why doesn't this script work? I have read forums til my eyes are crossed and can't see what I am doing wrong I am new to javascript, but not programming. The point here is to create a function that compares two strings and then shows or hides a div depending on the results of the comparison. I was trying to pass in the name of the two input text boxes containing the text and the name of the div to show or hide (so that it can be used in multiple scenariios.) Right now my error message is that document.getElementById(field1).value is not a function.
Here is the code below..

I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function:
function show_video1(){
document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block";
var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)";
document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none";
[Code]...
and trying to call it later on with this: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name.

What I want out of this function is the variable newworkdays to use in another function.
How do I access the "newworkdays" outside the function? I've already try to declare the variable outside of the function, though that resulted in that I didn't get the value of the variable inside the function.

I'm working on a project in which I parse the XML and I get the element names.
So far everything is ok.
Also, I would get a variable increment that I create in the function and I want to find out of it.
Unfortunately, I can not recover.
Here is an example of my script:
// start
// "i" is my increment variable
var i = 0;
$(this).find('foo').each(function(i){ // run correctly x time
i = i++;
[Code]....
How do I find my variable "i" to the output of my loop?

Let's say I have this function: function add(x, y) { var add = x + y;
[Code]...
So let's say the value of select_first is "1", and value of select_second is also "1". But when they are passed to the add function, the returned value is 11 and not 2. So what I understood is that it took the values as strings instead of integers. What should I do so that select_first and select_second are integers instead of string?

As it is shown in line 2 does everything perfectly, but I must declare the variable outside the function, as it implies the following code (line 1).

url:"content/nextpage.php",
type:"POST",
timeout: 5000,

data: { rNeuRecht: wert },
success:function
(msg){
$("#leer").html(msg);
}});});

I have a bit of php that creates an entry on a page for each row in a table, some pages may have multiple entries, others just one.
eg.
<h2 class="title">{title}</h2>
{summary}
<p onclick="openBox({entry_id})">Click to read more ></p>
<div id="{entry_id}" style="display:hidden;">{body}</div>
I would like to have just one function to open and close all individually, eg.
$(document).ready(function(){
function openBox(id){
if ($("#id:first").is(":hidden")) {
[Code].....
Well I know I'm doing something wrong as this is not working, and I don't know how better to explain I hope this is sufficient, I'm not worrried about the php/html bit as that is working fine.
