This has probably done a million times, and it's probably somewhere on this forum, but for the life of me, I can't find a thread on it. Maybe I'm using the wrong search words. The only one's I can find is a browser detect of explorer.This is what I am trying to get accomplished (maybe someone can point me at a good write-up):I'll write it in a sort of logic-statement language (I'd like to have this in a table cell so that it will only show one of two banners. Either a GIF/JPG or SWF depending on OS):[code]
I have a page that is displaying all the field values for an object. On that page, I want to display one image if the value of the field Reports_to is Jim, and another image if the value of the field Reports to is Bill. I've tried the following.
<script language = javascript> var reportsto = document.getField('field_reports_to').value; if (reportsto == Jim)
:)Per JMRKER's suggestion I researched Query Strings and partially solved my original request on how to pass a parameter. Now I need to learn how after passing that parameter, how to invoke some code.In an html file I call the program listed below entitled "ShirleyLee.html". The call is initiated by the following statement: onclick="window.open('ShirleyLee.html?Player=WindowsMediaPlayer'"In the body of ShirleyLee.html I call a function in the <head> entitled "DeterminePlayer". This function will parce the url used to open ShirleyLee.html.I tested this code and it works. In the Javascript code located in the <body>, the If clause: "if (SplitQueryStringStoreInArray[1] == "WindowsMediaPlayer")" will trigger the Alert box which will then display "WindowsMediaPlayer" which was parced from the url in the DeterminePlayer function located in the <head>If you look further down, just below the function call in the <body> you will see 11 lines of code which is a table that is comprised of the code neccessary to utilize the Windows Media Player plus parameters.
My question is, how do I invoke this code in the true area of the conditional clause located in the <body> that now temporarily contains: "alert("Player = " + SplitQueryStringStoreInArray[1]);"The following is the file: "ShirleyLee.html"
I have a multipage form. I can put data entered in hidden form elements from previous pages. I want to show or hide table rows depending on this data value. For example, I collect a list of names in first form, but if some names are blank I dont want to show the table row associated with that name to collect more data. I have seen loads of code to toggle rows but cant find any which shows me how to toggle on a variable.
how one can show and hide a div element using a pulldown menu. i need the different selections in the pulldown menu to show hidden DIV elements on the page. this will be used in a system where i only have access to the template, so the only approach i can use is jquery. how to change it for the specific selectors i need.

I want to get javascript to show or hide a row in a table depending on whether a value is held by a variable collected in a mulitple part formmail. If only 1 adult fills in their name on the earlier form there is no need to show the row which asks him to agree to membership on a later form page. This is what Ive got so far<form name="frm3" method="post" action="bookingscript.php">
I want to have several text links (not buttons) on a page and when someone clicks a link text appears explaining the link. If they click on a different link the text is replaced with the new text.
I am trying to make a form that after selecting a certain RadioButton i want the value of that radio button to be changed in to a JavaScript varible, iv tried document.myform.RType.value but wont seem to work.Currently in this code i am simply trying to disply the value of the RadioButton selected in the drop down box just so i know its working. I will then work on changing value of the drop down box depending on the RadioButton choice. So if anyone could help with the getting radio button value to a varible that would be great and advise of the changing value depending on radiobutton vlaue that would be amazing.
I have the following code that generates two dropdown boxes in a form, but I would like for the second to be hidden unless the first has 'Software problem' selected. Is it possible to do this?
What I would like to do, is to show one image ('1.jpg') if three textfields in my form are filled, but another image ('2.jpg'), if all or any of the fields are blank.
I have a big form which I'm tidying up by only showing elements when they become relevant, based on the currently selected input (eg to only show an option for 'waist size' when garment type 'jeans' has been selected). I've done this many times, and probably used a different approach each time, so I just wanted to see what other people do. It's currently along these lines: "If a particular option is selected, then show this element, otherwise hide it".
Code: //the onclick handler function checkViewType() { //go through radio inputs in the cell and check what's clicked document.getElementById('supplierOptions').style.display=radioCollection.supp.checked?"":"none"; document.getElementById('subCatOptions').style.display=radioCollection.subcat.checked?"":"none"; document.getElementById('subCatTimeOptions').style.display=radioCollection.subcat_sumtype_time.checked?"":"none"; document.getElementById('subCatSumOptions').style.display=radioCollection.subcat_sumtype_sum.checked?"":"none"; document.getElementById('subcat_weekmonth_span').innerHTML=radioCollection.subcat_time_week.checked?"week":"month"; }
But it's a big form, with lots of nested options, and some elements can be triggered visible by several different options. So I'm looking for an elegant way to handle this without a million if..elses. Perhaps an array of element ids and which elements are allowed visible when that's selected.
I am maintaining a site which is written in ASP. Now i have to create some new pages.
In one page we have a table with many rows. Now, I want to enable or disable(showing and hiding also) 2 rows of this table depending upon the value selected by the user from a drop down list.
I want <select #2> to show a list depening on what the user choose for <select #1>. The tricky part is, not allowing the user to see what <select #2> lists are. Maybe fade it out untill they pick something from <select #1>.
The following code toggles hide/show for divs, but I would also like to add the ability to also show one separate, specific div when this code is called. (Too new to js to correctly incorporate the proper code)!
I am creating a blog and I thought it would be cool to have the Konami code in it. Basically, I would like is to either show or hide a div when the code is entered. So lets say the Div is hidden, they would enter the code and it would then show. If it was entered while the div was shown, it would then hide. Is there any way to do this? I think there would be, but I don't know how to accomplish it.
I have this bit of code that shows and hides various spans and it works great in ie. It doesn't work in Newscape of Firefox - havn't tried it in Opera. How can I change this? Code:
Im developing a site for my company that will contain relevant information on sites we serve (such as login details, passwords, addresses etc). It is available locally on our intranet due to the fact we have login details and such.
Anyway on the sidebar of my site (which is run on Wordpress), I have all the sections for the sites.
When a user clicks item #1, it expands and shows all the sites in that area.
The one problem is that when the sections are clicked on, they just expand in a very plain boring way.
I need it so that there is some sort of smooth transition between opening and closing the <div> sections.
Here is the current code I have now (I tried to edit as much of the comments as possible so it will make sense):
<script>
I found it on google, and modified it without having to change anything on the sidebar itself, just a simple paste to the head section.
This code also hides other currently open sections, so that only one may stay open at a time.
I found an issue with using embed code and jquery's show()/hide () method. I am using embed code inside of a div. So it looks something like this: <div id="test"> <embed> whatever here </embed> </div>
Now on that I want a user to be able to click a button to show/hide the content. So I create a function like this: <script type="text/javascript"> function showEmbed(){ if($("#test").show()){ $("#test").hide(); } else { $("#test").show(); }} </script>
I then binded that to just a basic text link: <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="showEmbed();">show/hide</a> Now that works fine as far as showing/hiding the embed code. However, there is one issue with this. When I click the link it reloads the data. I do not want it to reload the data. Say for instance there is a video playing in there. If you click the link it will stop the video and when you click it again to show it will start again. How to get it not to reload the data.
I have to do in plain JavaScript something that I'm much more used to doing in jQuery.. this is for a standard tabbed-content show/hide div switcheroo.. here's the jQuery code:
'this' evidently does not refer to the element that was clicked on...also, can you refer to elements by their class name? also, is it possible to do event-binding in plain JavaScript w/o using individual id's for the clicked-on elements?
Can someone tell me the code to display dropdown box showing a default value as selected which can vary as per the users condition using script..i,e by enclosing in document.write.. Now i need to print a for loop counter variable's value as the default selected option if a condition satisfies as shown below..code...
I recently learned that the <option> tags can not use the onclick attribute inside of IE.This works great for firefox, but sadly not a single version of internet explorer supports it (from what I am told via countless Google searches).I have been modifying my attempit at a solution to use the <select> tag with the attribute onchange. Maybe I am casing this wrong, or not seeing a solution as the below code does not operate in any browser, and no errors are reported back through firebug or IE.Excuse my sloopy attempt at {smarty tags} this script is written in a bunch of PHP object->vales and to save space cored the issue down to it's basics.On change of the select box, the value="5-28" is sent to javascript showBox to split the number away from the id_trips and only focus on the locations (the number before the '-' . IF the location matches the switch value then the box should show / hide or value change. The IDs are all correct I just think that there is a ' or a " or something off as I am not a javascript expert.
