I've got an IFRAME it loads a page with variable contents. I need to know the WIDTH of the body of that page. I'm using offsetWidth and offsetHeight

I'm trying to get the height of a <div> tag so I can use it as a reference in a function to change image height, but I can't seem to get it.

But doesn't work on firefox or chrome, only work fine on IE (WTF!) I'd tried $('body').resize... but happen the same. $(window).resize work fine but I need to detect when the body's height has been changed by ajax.
I wanted to resize the modal dialog based on the content of the modal dialog for that i used the following lines of code:
The 'document.body.scrollHeight' is not giving the exact height of the modal dialog bcos the button on the modal dialog are not completely visible to click for the user.
How to get the exact height of the modal dialog to resize it?
There must be a standard way of getting the body of an iframe, and adding content to it, using jQuery. what the "best practice" way is? That works in all browsers?

Example: As the page gets longer due to contents, the DIV will also extend to the bottom of the page.
I have been experimenting all evening with different methods, some don't even work.
I want to load an html div in a variable, modify it in another variable; and then change the document injecting the contents.
1. I load the html to be changed in a variable (code)
2. I modify an attribute of <param> using attr() and I put the result in a var (newcode)
3. I change the html in the doc
I've used the debugger, and all steps give the expected results, except of newcode.html(), which is a null string. Why?

I'd like to resize an iframe into which different (same domain) pages of differing heights are loaded. I can do a first-time resize no problem. It's the subsequent reloads that need to pass back their height to the parent page There seem to be lots of solutions for that around, but few I can see for resizing each time the iframe reloads. One is described here on another board [URL] but unfortunately the test page is no longer around (or indeed the site), so the full code is no longer available there. I don't want scrollbar's inside the IFrame but rather for the whole page. To accomplish this I must resize the height of the IFrame (width = fixed). But I can't seem to accomplish this. The links within the Iframe load the new content but I have to access the parent document to be able to resize the IFrame height. How I can resize the iframe from within javascript in the IFrame.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've got a page [URL]... where I have to use a jquery function to stretch the body to the user's window height if it isn't already.
In the same code I also use a condition that if the body is bigger than the user's window, the content has a padding to stop it going over the grass.
The reason I need to do the resize is because I have a background image that needs to sit at the very bottom of the page (with no bar or gap below it). The reason the padding can only exist when the body is bigger than the window is because it will put a scrollbar on pages that shouldn't have them.
It works great, but the only trouble is that if somebody decides to resize their window on a page that fits in it - it breaks.

It's possible to style document.body not to start at 0,0 for example: body {width: 1000px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;} This means that X/Y of the body is not 0,0 but how can I find out what the position is using javascript? document.body.offsetLeft; is 0 and offsetParent is null yet if I position something absolutely at 0,0 it goes to 0,0 of the window, not the body!

Then I decided to add a jQuery function, but the document ready is not executing when the page loads. As you can see below I've added the document.ready function at the top of the page, below the links. And below that are the JavaScript functions that were there all along. Why the document ready function doesn't execute? (I don't see the "ready" alert, and the jQuery isn't working.)

So basically, the flow is like this..
page loads
callback to 3rd party.
--> is third party connected = yes --> build iframe (in parent page)
---> is third party connected = no --> do nothing

I'm trying to make my body content scroll at the same time as an iframe located within the body. This has to do with the age old problem of mouse focus on iframes. When my mouse reaches the iframe and it takes over focus, I would like the body to keep scrolling until the iframe is right at the top of the screen. After that I want to relinquish focus to the iframe. I don't mind if the iframe starts scrolling as soon as the mouse reaches it, so long as the main body keeps scrolling for a while.

What I'm trying to do is execute a functions when the body loads. This function will make an XMLHttpRequest and then recals itself every 2 minutes for example. The good thing is it really recals itself every 2 minutes, but it doesn't make any changes. The XMLHttpRequest is a request to an XML file on the internet which changes often, and I want the data of it. When my function recals itself, it displays the data of the first call and never changes after that. So I guess it never makes a new XMLHttpRequest, or it doesn't update the returned data.

It seems like when I load javascript code into a page, that each item I add, such as an accordian vertical navbar, image slider, etc, that each time I add one, the page loads a second or so slower with each one added. I would like some of these features, but is this just a part of life, or are there tricks to avoid the slower load time? It is not major time but after the 2 items I mentioned, it added on about 2 seconds.
I read that $(document).ready(function() might slow me down but I do not see that statement in any of my .js files.
