Calculate Height Of Iframe Problem In Asp Page With External Link
Nov 7, 2005
I use an asp page to display pages, where the dynamic content is in an
iframe. To calculate the height of the iframe I use the calcheight function. However when trying to do this with external pages, I get an access denied error, and the iframe won't display correctly. Is there a way to solve this or another way to calculate the height for the iframe. The relevant code displayed below...
I have several hundred html links in a file "main.html" pointing to external websites. ie: "external.html"
When a user clicks an external link from within "main.html", I want to bring up "external.html" in all its glory, but with a banner / header across the top (I am guessing iframe is a good option) - so effectively the link will take us to "frame.html", with "banner.html" and "external.html" in an iframe (or alike).
The banner has to be populated with information specific for that "external.html" file. ie: when they click on the link to "external_1.html", the header might have the text "external_1".
So, I am happy with doing this as a one off, but can't see the method to have a single 'onclick' script to pass the required information from "main.html" to "frame.html", and then for "banner.html" to be updated with the text passed from the 'onclick', and to know to call in the correct "external" to populate the iframe.
I will further complicate it by asking if it is possible to have all the scripting required contained within "main.html"?
I am trying to get an iframe to have dynamic height - I want it to resize to fit the contents of the page. There is a four or five step process within the iframe. So for example, page 1 is rather short, and it'll have a link that sends you to page 2, which might be rather long.I have no control over the pages I am using in the iframe and they are on another domain.I have googled and and searched the forum and I've yet to find anything that works. A lot of them say they're not cross-browser compatible, but I haven't gotten anything to work how I'd like in any browser.I'd like to do it without jQuery.
I want to open All external link, in iframe with the help of javascript. For E.g, My site is www.domain.com and I have made few post where it contains few external link, so, rather than opening the link in new window or in new tab or in parent page, i want to open link in iframe.
I'm working on my personal website [URL] and I'm trying to use Javascript to edit some of the height and size attributes of elements on the page, based on the user's window size. I've got the code that gets the window size working, and calculates what I want to set as the "boxSize" but the part that goes into the external CSS to change the values is not working. "boxSize" is a variable that holds just a number. I'm not sure if it's really stored as a number or a string, but I don't think that's supposed to affect anything.
I'm just putting in the relevant part of the code right where it's failing. I figured out (using alert() statements) that the script is definitely working right up until before the two lines given, and failing to get through them.
Is it possible to have an iFrame set at 100% so that you will not need to scroll up or down inside the actual page? I have been searching for a while now and one thing to note is that the source file is from another web site (with permission) and is https on an http page. The code works fine but I cant seem to get the 100% height.
If I try to put a site into an iframe that has "escape frame" code in its source (posted below), it will reload the requested page into the parent instead of the iframe. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
One could use onunload to stop the redirection, but I would like to find a way to load a page into an iframe, even if it has this type of code.
I have considered server code loading the content and re-displaying it but I would like to find a pre javascript solution.
//this is not my code if (self != top) { if (document.images) { top.location.replace(window.location.href); } else { top.location.href = window.location.href; } }
how to adjust the iframe height by itself if my html height increases. My html code includes a facebook comment at the bottom of my page and the comment will show making it expand the height once users post comments. On the other hand, I'm using a CMS that have its own iframe. I've tried many solutions that can be found on the web but none works. It only can work if I don't put in CMS. Is it possible to adjust the iframe height using CMS or there is no way?
I have a some divs in a list which are shown or hidden using doslide. I would like to be able to make a link on another page or an email which will go to the page and reveal a specific div automatically without the user having to land on the page and then search through the list.
This is a weird one. I am new to jQuery so have been following a tute online. My script works, its just takes ages to load - up to a minute! Things were working fine before when the script was on the same page as the HTML but when I put it on its own file it just slows right down. All these files are just operating straight from my local. All I am doing is changing the color of a list (ul) with jQuery on an external .js file. This is the only code on that .js file (called script.js)
1. Load the first page of a series of pages into an iframe when you click a link 2. On each click load the next in order page 3. When last page has loaded if clicked again will start from the beginning.
What I am doing: I am creating a tutorial for a friend who cannot figure out how to use her new rental management program. I could use a manual slide show to have her click for the next image however, there are a LOT of tutorial images which show her what to do at that point. Her program contains a great number of setup screens, report screens etc. This means the slide show would be sitting there loading all these images before it will work. So, I figured, OK make a page with an iframe, and then I could put each image on it's own little page i.e. page1, page2 etc. Place a little button, or a next link, then have the link load the pages into the iframe in order.
I've set up a portfolio using the Cycle Plugin. It works great, but now I want to link directly to one of the slides from the home page, and I'm not sure how to make this work or where to even begin. Here is a page on my site with a slideshow using Cycle. (I'm actually transitioning divs, not just images) [URL].
What I want to do is go from page1 (which does not have an Iframe) to page2 (which does have an Iframe) and change the content of that Iframe based on the links clicked on page1.
So say I click link1 on page1, I want page2 to show up and for the Iframe to show link1 content.
If I click link2 on page1, I want page2 to show up and in the Iframe I want to see link2 content.
My site has a menu + iframe layout. Clicking on the menu link loads a page in the iframe. The iframe is set to a specified dimension.
I only have a single page that loads in the iframe. Clicking on the menu link loads a specific section on the page using the name anchor. The specified dimension of the iframe allows for the selected info to be visible.
I can create a new page for every link, but to the site's nature (its like a catalogue), I rather have it on a single page and have it called by the name anchor. I am trying to set it so that every time a menu link is clicked, the single page refreshes itself, and then goes to the anchored location. I need this for a reason.
I have tried many things but I have not got it working.
Is there a way to resize an iframe dynamically so that you never get the scroll bar and essentially hide that there is an iframe? Better integration really.Basically I want to iframe a forum into my site so that the design down the sides and top which my friend does using iweb are not messed with.We have a central area which can be longer or shorter depending on the forum.
I have PAGE1 with the link to PAGE2 with iframe. (iframe load several naked html). I want to add directive to the link to point sprcific content of iframe. to make it clear
link on PAGE1 -> load PAGE2 with iframe -> iframe content is specified on link = whole PAGE2 with iframe with desired content...
solving problem with creating several different PAGEs2 poining wanted iframe src is not the case.
I am trying to get the current height of an iframe in pixels. The code below will display the height as a percentage but thats not what I need. Is there a way to determined the iframe's current height in pixels even though I specify "height:52%"?
I want to integrate a forum (phpbb) inside my custom made website. The problem is that there is no way to dynamically adjust the iframe height..I thought javascript would be the best way to do that, the problem is that i know nothing about JS... Here is my idea,
-2 scripts, 1 in the parent page (the one with the iframe tag) and the second one in the main forum page
-The script inside the parent page, would dynamically set the "height" parameter inside the iframe tag based on a value passed by the second script.
-The second script, inside the forum page, would read the entire content of the (document.body.scrollHeight) current page and sends its result to the first script.I have found a script that was supposed to do that, but for some reasons it doesnt work very well. Here is the link where i explain de problem with it: http:[url]....
I have site A that has an iframe and site B shows up in this iframe. I need to increase the height of the iframe according to the content in it from inside site B. I need some pushing in the right direction to get to some documentation or online resources.
i want to increase the iframe height dynamically . Actually, parent window open light box using iframe. Now i click on iframe content area button then iframe will be automatically increase height (on scroll bar appears) .
I've set the page up with an iframe because I figured then I would only have to update menu links on that main page and then there'd be less chance of missing a link somewhere along the way as new updates are added. I know this could probably be accomplished with .css, but I don't know how to do that either!
My problem is that the iframe won't adjust height to allow for the longer pages without adding scroll bar. My neighbor doesn't want it to look like its a separate box at all, so no borders and no scrolling can be used. I've tried the various solutions I've found online and either they do nothing or they stretch the page that's loading in the frame to ridiculous proportions AND still adds a scroll bar.
As I said, I haven't designed in several years and I never learned JavaScript at all. I suspect my problem is probably due to not understanding which bits of code I need to change to my iframe name. The IFrame SSI IV totally confuses me, though I do think that's the one that would ultimately work if I just knew where I was supposed to plug in my iframe name and target info.
My iframe name is, quite simply, "content" and the first page I want loaded (when someone first visits the site) is "whatisreiki.html" (my neighbor does Reiki on animals). The site is www.lovingtheanimals.com but I am working on this particular issue on www.lovingtheanimals.com/iframetest.html so that I don't totally screw up the site where visitors might be affected.
