Hooking Browser Stop Button?
Jul 20, 2005
Anyone know how to hook a browser's Stop button (event?) in JS? I've
looked through the Document and Window DOM events in my O'Reilly JS
book and don't see anything that stands out. About the closest thing
I've come across is onAbort() in the Image object... I just want to
know if Stop was clicked and if so redirect using parent.location.

I'm completely new to jquery and javascript and am just trying to get a simple script up and running. I've put this in the head of the document:
[Code]...
with a div with an id of "togglecontent" and a link with an id of "fadein" in the body about halfway down the page. The toggle works well, but when you click on the link, as well as "togglecontent" becoming visible, the browser window jumps to the top of the page, which obscures some of the toggled div. Is there any way I can stop this from happening?

I've noticed that when I click the Stop button on the browser, or navigate to another page, jQuery.ajax calls the error event. You can see the problem live at: [URL]..

I'm not having this issue with Mozilla Firefox, but it seems that the results of the code below are being cached in EI 8. When the browser makes another asynchronous call to the server with different results from the database, those results are not being displaying on the wepage. How do I fix this problem. As I mentioned above the code works fine in Mozilla Firefox. The page displays data in EI 8 with no errors five seconds after the page has loaded, but as the information in the database changes, I'm not seeing those changes reflected on the page in 5 second intervals.
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(
function() {
setInterval ( "reload1()", 5000 );
});
function reload2(){
$.get(
'vcci.php',
function($xml) {
// Make the XML query-able with jQuery
$xml = $($xml);
var $iso2 = $xml.find('data').text();
//alert($iso2);
$('#para').text($iso2);
},
'xml'
);}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<p id="para"></p>

Some background:I'm writing an iPhone web app that connects to a C# web server. When the user selects a particular button:- a post is made to the web server- the web server sends back html buttons.- the web app places the buttons in a #result <div> (using ("#result").html( content_received ); )The above works really well. The buttons are formated and displayed correctly. However, the buttons are not selectable. I have another JQuery command that will catch the button press and send a new query back to the web server.
I've looked at the html source, once the page has loaded, and even though the buttons are displayed, they are not reflected in the source. You only see <div id="result"></div> and no reference to the buttons. Now I'm guessing this why the buttons are not working.

I'm trying to determine if the user clicks the
stop button during a post send, basically. Specifically, if a user is
uploading a file to my server, and they click stop at some point, I
need to be able to tell the server that stop was clicked, so it doesn't
think that's the whole file. I've noticed that an error message is
written to the Apache log, but that seems like a strange way to keep
track of user-interrupted events. (Note: this is Apache/mod_perl
server-side)
I guess what I'm thinking now is that JavaScript detects the stop
(since it is client-side), then sends a message to the server that an
error occurred, or something. Like I said, the onstop event is not
doing what I'm expecting, and Firefox doesn't like it anyway, not to
metion the other browsers out there. So my question is what's the
"idiom" or "standard way" of detecting this sort of situation. I'm
quite certain I'm not the first one to need it.

I'm really new to Javascript, and really know basically nothing about it. What I want to do is press a skip button on a page, then wait for the next page to load completely before pressing the skip button. I want the script to stop after the first five skips, though. I plan on making this into a GreaseMonkey script for my own personal use, if that info is needed, too.

Basically, I have a page that I load with 10 input fields. If users
have JS enabled I want to hide 5 of these fields so as to reduce
clutter. If the user needs these extra fields an "Add" button can be
used to display the hidden fields one by one.
Once the fields a filled in the user submits them for validation and
if there are any error They can "Go back" to make some changes. The
whole process works great in FF & Opera but IE lets me down because if
you use the Browser "Back" button the Javavscript gets executed even
though it should be loaded out of cache.

I have a form with a bunch of selects and a single text input.Form data is sent via $.post whenever the inputs are changed, so a submit button isn't needed. The form does contain one regular button (using the button tag, not the input tag). The button shows a jQuery UI dialog when clicked.
If you press the enter key in the text field, the browser submits the form but it also acts like you clicked the button (the dialog appears). That makes no sense to me. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?I've already tried adding a few things to the form's submit handler, but they don't make a difference.
$('#filters').submit(function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
event.stopPropagation();
clearTimeout(window.refresh_timer);

how to stop the browsers back button from working after a user has logged out. I tried the windows.history.forward(1); function but it either is not working for me, or I am not putting it int the right place.The logout button is on the menu.php page. The button calls the logout.php file which redirects the user to the index.php page after logout.

I've got a script that reads a line of text from a file, and does a bit of parsing to that line into an array. Apparently, this can take some time, so I get the "Stop running this script?" message.From what I understand, I need to use the setTimeout call, but for the life of me can't understand it. When I do add it to some code, it seems to work, but doesn't "pause" the code as I expect it too...
function ReadFile(Fname)
{
var path = "y:\metrics\";

I want to run a PHP code being the scenes as soon as the user closes the browser using the browser kill button. Is there is a way we can detect the browser close button. One more thing that is - it shudnt be a code that runs on body unload as that code will also run when the use is navigating from one page to another within the same application as well.

I have a jquery-powered "start page" that checks your log in and if successfull it slides in a "menu" of new places to go. The problem is, if you click back from one of the new places, the original "start page" looks as if you never logged in. You have to reload the page. Not very intuitive and this website is for kids. Now I've tried setting form field values with server session variables, javascript variables, etc etc but they all get reset when you click back. I've tried the "onunload hack" which I don't fully understand, and then read a bit about the onhashchange event which is from what I gather only compatible with HTML5 browsers...is there no way to detect if the user is already logged in when they click the back button or am I not doing enough homework?
