JQuery :: Stop Browser Window Jumping To Top Of Page?
Jul 4, 2009
I'm completely new to jquery and javascript and am just trying to get a simple script up and running. I've put this in the head of the document:
[Code]...
with a div with an id of "togglecontent" and a link with an id of "fadein" in the body about halfway down the page. The toggle works well, but when you click on the link, as well as "togglecontent" becoming visible, the browser window jumps to the top of the page, which obscures some of the toggled div. Is there any way I can stop this from happening?

I have a piece of javascript running about mid-section on a webpage. It's doing exactly what I want it to do, but when it runs it also "jumps" the page back to the top. That is, if I have my scroll bar half way down the page, when I click on the link and run this code it jumps me back to the top as if I'm visiting for the first time.
Any ideas on how to keep it on the same spot on the page while still executing the code?
Here is my code:
Code:
function changeOrderDetail(changeTo) {
if (changeTo == "guys") {
document.getElementById('orderDetail').style.backgroundImage = "url(images/subpage_odguysbg.jpg)";
} else {
document.getElementById('orderDetail').style.backgroundImage = "url(images/subpage_odgalsbg.jpg)";
}
}

If you go on my test site: [URL]... You will see a navigation menu at the top, with an animated ball. Every time you click on one of the links in the navigation menu, you will notice that after a new page is loaded there is a sudden jump from the balls original position to it's new position. (Not that obvious in Firefox but very obvious in IE and Safari) My question is how can I resolve this.
I assumed that wrapping the code in the $(document).ready function would elimate this issue as everything inside it will load before the page contents are loaded.

I've noticed that when I click the Stop button on the browser, or navigate to another page, jQuery.ajax calls the error event. You can see the problem live at: [URL]..

I am using a javascript gallery plugin, Galleriffic, to display an image gallery. I am having an issue with it as when the image is clicked it keeps jumping back to the top of the page. The problem with this is that the thumbnails which are underneath the main image on the page aren't visible and the user must then scroll to see them.
Is there any way that I can change this so that the link on the image doesn't make the page jump back to the top? I don't have my version online but the website will show you the code that is being used.

I know this is a Java Script fourum but since VB and Java are so closely related I thought I would look for some help here. Anyway I am running MSAccess Data Access Pages and need to know if I can open a new browser window from a page created by a parameter query? In breif here is my problem. I used the "Image Control" to bind 6 photos via a Parameter Query with the drive path to each photo stored in a table. So far this works great and the co-workers are impressed. However the photos (Thumbnails) are small and it would be great if I could use the "Image Control's" (on-click) event to open a new widow so as to see a larger image of the photo. As an interim solution I am using the Hyperlink control, however when you click on it the photo opens in the same window and when you click IE's Back arrow the Parameter query prompts the user for the value again. All this could be avoided if the Image control (or hyperlink) could open a new window (with the photo of course), and when finished merely close it. The script
<script language=vbscript for=Image0 event=onclick>
<!--
window.open.
-->
</script>
does nothing without the correct href which I don't know since that information is coming from the parameter query.

I have a little tabbed content window that uses jquery and I have an annoying little problem: whenever I click on one of the tabs, the page resets to the top, so if you click on the last tab, you have to scroll down to see it again.
Here's a link: [URL]
If you look at this page in IE, I know, it displays all screwed up. I'm too tired to tackle IE today.

so im working on a piece of jquery/JS which executes (drops down a new div) when you click a link. I have the links setup as
<a href="#" id="d0">Execute 1</a>
<a href="#" id="d1">Execute 2</a>
<a href="#" id="d2">Execute 3</a>
And the jscript detects when d0, d1 or d2 is clicked and executes my script. It all works perfectly, however when you click on a link it will jump to the top of the page as a side effect of the a href="#" I assume?

I'm not having this issue with Mozilla Firefox, but it seems that the results of the code below are being cached in EI 8. When the browser makes another asynchronous call to the server with different results from the database, those results are not being displaying on the wepage. How do I fix this problem. As I mentioned above the code works fine in Mozilla Firefox. The page displays data in EI 8 with no errors five seconds after the page has loaded, but as the information in the database changes, I'm not seeing those changes reflected on the page in 5 second intervals. I'm assuming this is a caching issue, if so how do I fix it.

jQuery - Scrolling browser Window. I have two demos of scrolling page content with jQuery.
This one - [url] is scrolling the contents inside a container and it works as I wanted on Mac/PC
Code:
I need the same effect as above but I need to scroll the whole browser window.
I have a demo here - [url]
Code:
Problem here is on the Mac the transition are jumpy and it seems to flash the first yellow div before sliding up or down. Testing on a PC it will slide down but won't slide up. How can I get the whole browser window to slide up and down with a smooth transition.

I've copied and customized a script to display a css popup in my little website. The script should display a popup in the middle of the browser window, graying out the background, Everything seems to work fine except that at the end of the script, the page is displayed from the top. This means that if you click on the popup link from a position down in the page, you'll miss it because you will be taken to the top of the page, where you can't see it.
This is the HTML and CSS code:
HTML Code:
And the js:
Code:
I've been debugging with alert boxes and everything seems to be fine until the script ends execution. Then the user is brought again at the top of the page...
In my final site the only thing I would like to show in the popup is a Flash movie.
Do you know any workaround? I would even implement a completely different solution if I knew which...
By the way: At this stage I am using Chrome but I would like my solution to work in any browser, that will the next issue.

Anyone know how to hook a browser's Stop button (event?) in JS? I've
looked through the Document and Window DOM events in my O'Reilly JS
book and don't see anything that stands out. About the closest thing
I've come across is onAbort() in the Image object... I just want to
know if Stop was clicked and if so redirect using parent.location.

I have two divs that are in the same parent div, only one is shown at once. When I toggle the one that is smaller (height-wise), the position of the scroll bar (and hence the user's current location on the page) remains the same. But when I toggle back to the taller div, the scroll bar launches you back up almost to the top of the page.Is there a way I can stop this from happening? I tried return false which i knew wouldn't work. I also looked into scrollTop() but that doesn't seem like it will be of any help since it only returns values and does not set any values?

Pretty simple. But when the page is loaded it is thrown in the upper left hand portion of my computer screen. then i pull the window to the middle of my screen and navigate away from this page. but if i hit the back button to come back to this page the window is moved again.

I am looking to have a link open a closeable window that is contained within a browser window. If you click on the "sizing charts" link on this website, this is exactly what I am looking to do:
[URL]
The window is contained within the current browser window, it can be dragged around, but not outside the parameters of the browser window.
