Stop The Browsers Back Button From Working After A User Has Logged Out?
Jun 14, 2011
how to stop the browsers back button from working after a user has logged out. I tried the windows.history.forward(1); function but it either is not working for me, or I am not putting it int the right place.The logout button is on the menu.php page. The button calls the logout.php file which redirects the user to the index.php page after logout.

I'm looking to have a lightbox pop up when a user clicks the Back button in their browser rather than just navigating back. The purpose is to ask a question with a Yes/No answer, and if they click No, I allow them to go back. The only thing I've found anything like this is the onUnload event, but that doesn't prevent them from going back. How should this be handled?

Basically, I have a page that I load with 10 input fields. If users
have JS enabled I want to hide 5 of these fields so as to reduce
clutter. If the user needs these extra fields an "Add" button can be
used to display the hidden fields one by one.
Once the fields a filled in the user submits them for validation and
if there are any error They can "Go back" to make some changes. The
whole process works great in FF & Opera but IE lets me down because if
you use the Browser "Back" button the Javavscript gets executed even
though it should be loaded out of cache.

I got a small issue and don't know where to start. What I need: I need a user to browse a certain website, and retrieve its Windows username there. What I need it for: I want to build a form on the intranet, where I will automatically fill the user's data, like his Name, Email-Adresse, Phone-Number etc. What I got:
- IIS7 with anonymous access on the whole intranet.
- Active Directory
- Any webdevolpment tool except PHP, but especially JavaScript, ColdFusion, ASP..
I google'd like the whole morning, but couldn't come up with a solution. Just found stuff where it says that you cannot get the user with anonymous access and stuff. So I need either confirmation of this information, or any hint where to start looking..

I have a javascript animation built with animate(). Whenever the page is reloaded, it is playing correctly, the problem is when the user navigates away from that page and the presses the Back button to go back to the previous page with the animation. The animation does not play again, it just shows the last state (probably because it's cached/in history?). Is there any way to restart the animation after the user presses the Back button?

I have a number of pages that organize book data by category and then by unit, chapter, section, etc... Since there is a ton of data I display the headings and hide the rest of the content for the category. When a user clicks the heading then the content for the heading is shown underneath it. This works great and the users don't have to scroll (at least not much in comparison to if everything on the page was visible) unless for some reason they expand tons of stuff.
The problem:My company wants it so that if they expand a bunch of stuff and then browse to another page, that when they click the back button, everything should still be expanded as they left it. The issue is, this content is only available to logged in users and is based on their current location (which they can change at any point), so if their session expires or they logout, using the back button to get to these pages needs to redirect them to the login screen, if they change pages and change their location, going back to this page needs to display the correct content for their location. It is kind of a catch-22. Of course in the eyes of my company "shouldn't it just work that way?"

We've developed a web application with static & iframes, each time we interact with the links in the static frame gives results in the iframe.
it has a custom back button in the static menu frame. this back button working fine in IE7 IE8 but not properly working in IE9 it goes 3 sometimes 4
pages back.
we are using history.go(-1)
is there any other way to make it work in IE9, even pressing the Backspace key wont work. we've tried many ways but no use.

Let me start out by saying that this is for a small-time page with absolutely zero valuable information. PHP or server-side is way beyond the scope of my goals for the project.
Basically, I have a form on a page which I want to use to submit a password. However, I have realized that using the form submit always makes the browser return to the page with the form.
Well, that's not good when I want to redirect using javascript!
My javascript is:

My form HTML is:

How can I get this to stop going back to the page with the form after I submit it?

I use the jQuery scrollTo plugin to scroll my page on navigation link click. The problem is that if the user starts trying to scroll the page while the plugin is scrolling the page, they start to fight with each other.I'm looking for a way to either stop automatic page scrolling by scrollTo when the user starts scrolling the page or to disable user scrolling until the page finishes scrolling itself. I've found code that lets me detect scrolling and stop scrolling, but it includes scrolling by the plugin in a scroll() event. You can see that code here:
HTML Code:
$(".navigation a").click(function(){
var slow = 4500;

I am having trouble with a page that has a form on it. What I need to be able to do is to pop up a message on the page (alert or confirm function) that will tell the user that leaving this page is unwise as their information will not be sent. Here is the tricky part:
1. This page has a lot of links on it that can take the user to any number of different pages. I am not able to put any javascript additions to the html of the links.
2. I don't want the message to pop up when the user clicks the Finish button ( a submit or button form input, whichever works best ).
I have added and onunload() javascript to the body of my page so that when any link is pressed (including the finish button) it runs a script to verify the pressing of the finish button. It SHOULD be checking to see if Finish was pressed and if it was continue, if not issue the confirm or alert to warn the user that they should not leave before finishing.
I have already been through the javascript O'reilly guide and can't figure it out. In PHP (which is my primary language) I could say something like:
if (!isset($finishbutton)) { do what I want };
However, PHP won't work for this. I need to be able to have JS do something like this:
if ({formelement finishbutton} has NOT been clicked) { do what I want }

i have a form being filled. i don't want the user to be able to submit twice. how can i either prevent the user from going back or disable the submit button?
i am currently disabling the submit button but when the user clicks back(from the next page) it asks whether it should resend data. when the data is resent it loads the original version of the page(without submit disabled).
