Get Current Logged In User (Windows)
Aug 3, 2010
I got a small issue and don't know where to start. What I need: I need a user to browse a certain website, and retrieve its Windows username there. What I need it for: I want to build a form on the intranet, where I will automatically fill the user's data, like his Name, Email-Adresse, Phone-Number etc. What I got:
- IIS7 with anonymous access on the whole intranet.
- Active Directory
- Any webdevolpment tool except PHP, but especially JavaScript, ColdFusion, ASP..
I google'd like the whole morning, but couldn't come up with a solution. Just found stuff where it says that you cannot get the user with anonymous access and stuff. So I need either confirmation of this information, or any hint where to start looking..

how to stop the browsers back button from working after a user has logged out. I tried the windows.history.forward(1); function but it either is not working for me, or I am not putting it int the right place.The logout button is on the menu.php page. The button calls the logout.php file which redirects the user to the index.php page after logout.

documents in new browser windows.
I got the new window open thing down but each time I open a new document it
opens it in the same popup window. I want to be able to select new documents
and open those selected documents one at a time in a new browser window as
the custormer selects a new document to open.

We need to find a way to pull a user's NT ID (Windows log on), and store it in a variable for use later on, and also to watermark the screen on HTML pages in an eLearning course. I have no idea how to do this and I can't seem to find anyone who has encountered a need for this.

Imagine a wife has signed on to a web site in a browser tab. She does not sign off and walks away to do something else. Her husband sits at the computer and seeing her signed on, opens a new tab and tries to sign on to the same site.
I am trying to write a script that will close other tabs/windows when the husband goes to the same site to sign on.
So, on the sign on page (or even better, the sign off page), when the sign on button is clicked, a piece of Javascript code is run first. The javascript simply goes through all tabs on the browser, and checks to see if any such tabs has an HTML document that came from the same domain as the sign on page. If such tabs exist, then before POSTing the user name and password to the server, the Javascript code will close those tabs that contain HTML documents came from the same domain.
So, I understand I need to set the window.name to a specific value. But does anyone know what the code on the sign on/sign off page to close the other tabs/windows would look like?

I have the following JS which puts a transparent blanket over the page and centralizes a <DIV> in the middle of the page. The problem I have is that sometimes the content of the page is quite long, and thus this popup <DIV> will get centralize against the content and not the current view port. The blanket only layers the transparent element on the viewable part of the screen/browser, so I am putting in a overflow: hidden style, so I need to ensure that the popup (and the transparency layer) is only on the current viewing window and not based on the content size (otherwise with the scrollbars taken away I will not be able to get to the popup.
So what I need is to display the transparency DIV and popup within the current viewing window, whether the user has scrolled half way down a page then it should show here - if that makes sense
My current JS is below...
Code JavaScript:

For example, I have commenting system where I want to use ajax to display and submit comments.
How do I check if user is logged in, if logged in then display the form, otherwise forward it to login page.
Once they submit the form, how do you update the page to reflect the changes?
Do you update the partial page or just reload the whole page with new comment?

I'm currently relying on logged-in users hitting "logout"
(logoff) before they leave, in order to terminate the session.
With PHP the session filename is in a cookie that lasts for the
current session. The problem is that the server does not know
when the current session expires. (I have quite long timeouts.)
Did anybody attempt a script to automatically call "logout"
when the session expires? It seems quite complicate, as there
are multiple urls that share the same session and the user is
not actually logging out until one of them is open in some
client window.

I've been having problems with web browsing that I think may be related to Javascript.I use forum sites like and there I get logged out every few minutes/seconds I've found that clearing my cache regularly seems to help a little, but it doesn't fix the problem. Other forum/avatar sites like Solia and Zaffcast don't work properly either, Solia was the site that first alerted me that my javascript may not be enabled. Since then, I have seen other sites that also require javascript that say that my Javascript is not enabled.I'm using Firefox, and my Javascript is certainly enabled in tools> options> content. I'm also having the same problems in IE, Opera and Safari (I haven't tried Chrome yet).I've done some javascript tests and it is working, but evidently not properly.There is another thing that confuses me, it's the fact that if I use my phone as a modem, I don't have this problem. So could it have something to do with my internet connection?

I have a parent window that pushes a new window object onto an Array
with the following code :
OpenChild()
{
//totalNumWindowsCreated is global
totalNumWindowsCreated = totalNumWindowsCreated + 1;
childWnds.push(window.open(link, "child" +
totalNumWindowsCreated,"dependent"));
..
..
..
}
This pops up a new window with every call. In the child window I call
a parent function onbeforeunload, appClose() :
function appClose(){
if (window.opener && !window.opener.closed){
window.opener.CloseChild(getQueryString("application"));
}}
This is in my frameset tag of the child code :
<frameset ... onbeforeUnload='appClose()'>
The window.opener.CloseChild() function is called perfectly when I have
one child window open, but as soon as I create another child window
both of the open child windows don't ever call it. They do both go
into the onbeforeunload appClose() function, but do not call the
window.opener.CloseChild() function inside of this routine.
Anyone have any ideas why when I have two child windows open I can't
access the window.opener functions?
I have tried taking each new window out of the array and used the
following code in CloseChild() :
CloseChild()
{
//win and totalNumWindowsCreated are both global
totalNumWindowsCreated = totalNumWindowsCreated + 1;
var win = window.open(link, "child" +
totalNumWindowsCreated,"dependent");
..
..
..
}

1. Take the current URL of the page and open a new window with a URL based on the current page. Some examples (I use "->" to mean "this URL turns into that URL"):I plan to use these bookmarklets in sequence, first pressing 1 to log into the CMS, then pressing 2 to edit the current page.

I'm creating an AJAX user validation so that when a user types in a username, it checks it in the database to see if it exists. I want it to execute after the user finishes typing. I've tried using:
$("#username_field").keyup(function(){
which works, but I don't want a query executed every time the users presses a key. I was wondering if there was a better way to do it. Meaning I what the check to be preformed after the user finishes typing.

I have attached the code and the access file and have got started on a few things.I first need to create a login page with the fields username and password have that check the access database and then proceed it to a page to do the following depending on the user access. I have read all posts about how to detect that url have changed to new
page and trigger the event handler then eg.
function aidLogout(evt) {
if(evt) {
/* maybe via analyse of evt object i can detect the close of the
browser window */
}
if(window.event) {
/* maybe via analyse of window.event object i can detect the close of
the browser window */
}
var i = new Image();
i.src = "aidlogout.asp?uid=1562&SessionID=ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP"
} /* assuming that aidlogout.asp will return nothing or empty image */
window.unload = aidLogout;
/* or via
if(window.addEventListener) {
window.addEventListener("unload", aidLogout, false);
} else
if(window.attachEvent) {
window.attachEvent("unload", aidLogout);
}
PS i know about super Gecko onclose event which fires when browser
window is closed, but i could not find such method in IE.
