Windows.location Only Seems To Refresh The Page?
Apr 6, 2010
I have been a happy lurker for some time now, soaking in the abundant knowledge that i have found here. But now I am at my wits end trying to find the solution to what is probably a novice’s oversight.I have a menu that animated with jquery. One of the link I have added js call a function that asks for a quick password then opens new page. Some reason it only seems to refresh the page. Here's the code involved.the js
function password(){
var password;
var pass1="cool";

need some javascript that when a page is refreshed, the page will appear in the browser in a certain location down the page. Trouble is a php text link is being clicked on which causes the page refresh. Anyone know a way to show a page location after a page refresh with javascript?

Here is the url:The issue, as you will see, is initially when my front page loads the "menu" animates into place. Then after a button is clicked:
$(".home_button").click(function() {
$('#content_menu').stop().fadeOut(1000,function() {
window.location = "http://jquery.com/";
[code]...
That all works fine. The issue is when I use the back button on the browser to return to the home page the animation never triggers and the page remains unusable until a refresh. How can I have this page refresh when the user uses the back button and/or is there a better way to do what I'm asking?

I have a website that when built has the additional directory /joomla after the domain name. That is no longer required. I am trying to get rid of it when people visit the site as it makes some pages not work Heaps of search engines have the url including the /joomla.I thought if I could detect for the string /joomla then remove it and then force the page to go to the new location I would be safe, and it should handle any trailing page info as well.I thought it would be easy Below is my sad attempt:
HTML Code:
<html>

I have opened a window in javascript with:
mywin = window.open(blahblah);
To keep myself from reopening the window everytime i do a click, i changed it to this:
if(typeof(mywin)=='undefined' || (more conditions here))
{
mywin = window.open(blahblah);
}
The problem is: variable "mywin" is lost after i REFRESH the current page. Since i'm doing a LONG, LONG inventory management (where the opened window is about 200K long), I want to know how I can access the opened window. I tried searching the web, but as far as I know there isn't any "list of windows previously opened by this one" method or property.
I've managed to do it with a setTimeout function on the child window that calls another function of the parent window every 1/2 a second. Code:

To make a long story short when I do a redirect like this...
Code:
if(window.location.hash.length > 0){
window.location = "http://" + "<?php echo $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']; ?>" + "/" + window.location.hash;
}
it goes there, but on the refresh php can't see what was appeneded with the window.location.hash, so its like I'm going to

If I type http://domain.com/product/5 into my browser I will see the
product details in the main div plus a side bar div containing links to
other products. This side bar is common to all product views. I click a
sidebar link to product 6 and an ajax request updates the main cell
with the product 6 information. My location bar will still say
/product/5. If I refresh the browser I will see product 5. If I
bookmark the page it will be for product 5. If I click the back button
I will go to the page I saw before product 5. I know none of these
problems with AJAX are new. Why is it that JavaScript can't tell the
browser "Now you are looking at http://domain.com/product/6"? Is there
a security risk? Is this just something not yet implemented?

I have been using this trick for some time on a home page. The idea is
to verify the user's browser has Javascript enabled before allowing the
user to access a logon page. The NoJavascript.html page has instructions
for turning on Javascript.
<a href="/NoJavascript.html"
onclick="window.location='/Logon'return false;">Logon </a>
A Windows/ME PC using IE 6 now consistently goes to the
NoJavaScript.html page when the button is clicked even though Javascript
is enabled.
This has been working for several months and continues to work with IE 6
on Windows/XP and other browsers such as Firefox, Opera, etc.
I think the problem is related to the W/ME PC installing the IE 6
Cumulative security Update SP1 (KB896727). Has anyone else encountered a
similar problem and found a solution?

Is there a difference between right clicking an iframe and reloading post reponse vs. using javascript to reload the frame? So far, the javascript route hasn't worked for me. [some context] I am writing a little bookmarklet to help me with the online registrations at my school. Here is the setup.
Load up a page on the domain. Remove all body elements. Insert an iframe. Set iframe to page for class roster search. (in iframe on school search page) Select class search options, POST the form data, and view results in frame. *This works perfectly, but I need to have it refresh results every minute or so. When I use frame.contentDocument.location.reload(true); the frame loses the post data or something and the page is broken. BUT when I just right click on the frame and select "reload frame" it works perfectly. What is the difference between rightclicking the frame and refreshing it like that vs. using javascript to reload the frame?

I have an webbpage, and in the middle of it there is an iframe to a php site. So i have used this code, so after some seconds the iframe will send the guest to another page. <meta http-equiv="refresh" traget="_top" content="5 url=http://mypage.com"/> But the thing is that i want the WHOLE page to reload, and go to that page after 5 seconds (we can say). With that code, only the iframe are going to another page. Is it possible to make the whole page send the user after some seconds, to another page and not only the iframe?

Basically, I have a link that should open the targeted link in a blank page, and upon the link being clicked, the original page's URL should be changed. The reason for this is that the user has to browse information on another website, and then pass the information on to me via a contact form, so rather than make them click back on my tab in the browser, and then find the "Contact" page link to fill in the form, I thought it would a good feature to simply go ahead and load the "Contact" page upon them clicking the link to the external page (which of course loads in a new tab). Here is the code I have in place:
Code JavaScript:
<a href="http://www.othersite.com/" target="_blank" onclick="window.location.href='http://www.mysite.com/contactus.php';">Other Site</a>
This all works fine on my computer, regardless of the browser that I use. One of my partners on this project called me this morning and said that the link was taking him directly to the "Contact" page without opening the "Other Site." This is strange because after I put this in place, I showed it to him and it worked fine. Now, a few days later, and it does not work. He said that he cleared his browser cache, history, cookies, etc. and the problem did not go away. He uses IE8. After he told me it was no longer working, I went to test it myself, and it works fine for me no matter which browser I use (IE8 or 9, Firefox 3 or 4 Beta).
why this might have worked one day and not the next? Is it simply a problem on his computer, or could it be an issue where based on what type of browser you are using, this won't work. Also, I know this is the JavaScript forum, but is there a way to do this in PHP without using the JavaScript onclick event? Obviously, I can't use the header() function since this functionality needs to be present on a link within text of a page.

Our company own a lot of domains and want to put a short page of copy on each address along with keywords before redirecting the user to our main site. I have been able to get the page to load the main site after the desired time using this code in the head...
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="40;URL=http://webaddress.com/">
That works perfectly, I am now trying to display a countdown timer from 40 seconds down to 0, and on 0 redirect the user. Saying something like "You will be redirected in XX seconds". Is there anyway of doing this? I've been searching google for the answers with no luck and can only seem to find timers that countdown to a set date.
