JQuery :: Using "window.location" For Link But Back Button Does Not Refresh Initial Page?
Nov 1, 2011
Here is the url:The issue, as you will see, is initially when my front page loads the "menu" animates into place. Then after a button is clicked:
$(".home_button").click(function() {
$('#content_menu').stop().fadeOut(1000,function() {
window.location = "http://jquery.com/";
[code]...
That all works fine. The issue is when I use the back button on the browser to return to the home page the animation never triggers and the page remains unusable until a refresh. How can I have this page refresh when the user uses the back button and/or is there a better way to do what I'm asking?

Basically, I have a link that should open the targeted link in a blank page, and upon the link being clicked, the original page's URL should be changed. The reason for this is that the user has to browse information on another website, and then pass the information on to me via a contact form, so rather than make them click back on my tab in the browser, and then find the "Contact" page link to fill in the form, I thought it would a good feature to simply go ahead and load the "Contact" page upon them clicking the link to the external page (which of course loads in a new tab). Here is the code I have in place:
Code JavaScript:
<a href="http://www.othersite.com/" target="_blank" onclick="window.location.href='http://www.mysite.com/contactus.php';">Other Site</a>
This all works fine on my computer, regardless of the browser that I use. One of my partners on this project called me this morning and said that the link was taking him directly to the "Contact" page without opening the "Other Site." This is strange because after I put this in place, I showed it to him and it worked fine. Now, a few days later, and it does not work. He said that he cleared his browser cache, history, cookies, etc. and the problem did not go away. He uses IE8. After he told me it was no longer working, I went to test it myself, and it works fine for me no matter which browser I use (IE8 or 9, Firefox 3 or 4 Beta).
why this might have worked one day and not the next? Is it simply a problem on his computer, or could it be an issue where based on what type of browser you are using, this won't work. Also, I know this is the JavaScript forum, but is there a way to do this in PHP without using the JavaScript onclick event? Obviously, I can't use the header() function since this functionality needs to be present on a link within text of a page.

I have a scripts which filters a list of data based on a users selection from dropdowns in a form. The script updates a counter while the user is making the selections and also colates a url string which I then use to query a php db when the user clicks view results.
I also have a reset button in the form so the user can quickly go back to the start. When this is clicked it does reset all the dropdowns and inputs to their defualt values but it doesn't reset my js functions back to their initial states.
Can anyone tell me how I can do this? Is there a js reset function I can use?

I have a page that is dynamically build through DOM manipulation. So, when I browse outside the page, and then click back, those dynamically created DOM objects are gone. I can rebuild the page easily. So the point is that if the user leaves the dynamic page, then clicks back on their browser, I need the page they are going back to to refresh. I thought it might be something about caching, so I've tried to use all following 3 META tags but it doesn't work.
Code:
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">

I have a large form that uses jquery's .change to rewrite html select forms, make some calculations, etc. It works great if I don't reload the page via a refresh or a back. If I click back or refresh it doesn't change some of my form's selections, but all of the jquery generated stuff doesn't recalculate. Is there a way I can trigger a re-evaluation? I tried
$(document).ready(function () {
...
(#id).trigger('change');
...
});

To make a long story short when I do a redirect like this...
Code:
if(window.location.hash.length > 0){
window.location = "http://" + "<?php echo $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']; ?>" + "/" + window.location.hash;
}
it goes there, but on the refresh php can't see what was appeneded with the window.location.hash, so its like I'm going to

I need some script to force the browser to reload/refresh when a page is reached from the back button.
EG You're on page A -> You click a link onto page B -> You Press Browser back to go onto Page A, it has old content that requires a reload.
Now, my page is currently php so I won't bother with my code here as I am looking for any solution (I have also posted in php forum).
Any JS solution that will trigger a reload on browser back is appreciated. I have tried a few ideas, most work in Chrome, IE always works, Firefox 4 and Opera 11 wont reload, simply fetching from cache I believe.

I've got links on a website that takes the user to different parts of the same page (i.e, no reloading of the page)
I would like 2 things to happen when a link is clicked:
1) the url changes eg. from mysite.com/home to mysite.com/about when the about link is clicked.
2) when refreshing the page that it stays where it's at and not go back to the top of the page.

I've got some popup windows with help screens in them. The screens are other pages of my site specially sized to fit. Those pages have links to other pages, so users can navigate them inside the popup.So I thought I'd do two things:
1. Put a back button in the popup to let the user go back one or more pages in the help screens. But a simple button saying history.back() or history.go(-1) just does nothing.
2. Let the user refresh the pop-up content so that the user can go back to the first page of the help screen without having to close the pop-up and reopen it from the main page.But a simple refresh button saying location.reload(true) or window.location.reload() also does nothing.There is a button in there that works OK, window.close().Am I missing something fundamental about the nature of popup windows?I don't really want to have my help screens open in new browser tabs because I know people won't bother to close them.

I am trying to write a script that uses the IF statement to see wether or not a user clicked the back button to come to a page, and then if it's true to not let the page load and kick them back X number of pages (say 4) This is what I have so far:
<script language="JavaScript"><!--
if javascript:window.history.back == 1
{
javascript:window.history.back(4);
return false;
}
//--></script>

Danged if I can find the thread, but I swear I saw a $.url() reference in here a day or two ago. It was beingutilized for parsing out the window.location or window.location.search parameters. I made a mental note because that was something I would be needing to do.
Now I can't find it, either because the search isn't finding it or I was dreaming about this function existing.
I rummaged about the API docs and didn't find it there either. Is it something provided by one of the plugins and not a function native to jQuery?

What i'm doing is that i've got a sign-up form. Since the signup form can be accessed from many pages, i'm trying to use javascript to go back to the page the person comes form. so what i'm using is this:
PHP Code:
This works perfectly.. BUT.. in some browsers i have to press refresh to have the changes made.
E.g. index.php says "hello guest" after signing in some browsers say "hello user" some like ie5 say "hello guest" (if i refresh, then it says "hello user")
So is there anyway to goback to the previous page in history and not to use the cache?

In Mac Safari 4.04 & Firefox 3.6, I am seeing page state being persisted on back button to page. I couldn't reproduce on jquery 1.3.2.
Here's a simple example:
<html>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.4.js"></script>
<a href='#content1'>tab 1</a> <a href='#content2'>tab 2</a>
[Code]....
1. Click on one of the anchors.
2. Goto another page
3. Click the browser back button
Result: One of the sections is still hidden. Is anyone else seeing this? How is jquery doing this?

I have a page where a user can progressively download more thumbnail images. New thumbnails are loaded using '$.get' followed by an 'append' to the main thumbnail container. If a user clicks on a thumbnail then they link to another page to see the full size image. If the user then presses the back button, the page of thumbnails has returned to its initial state. I was hoping that all the additionally downloaded thumbnails would remain in memory! Is there a way around this? Keeping track of any additional thumbnails that have been downloaded when navigating the to the full size image page and then re-loading them when the user returns to the thumbnails page is not really an option as I don't want the user having to wait for this. This is what facebook appears to do after one has loaded lots of additional items on their news feed - if one links to another page and hits the back button, my suspicion is that all the items are re-loaded - they're not just re-displayed from memory.
