Counting Characters Entered

Oct 7, 2005

This involves the use of an order form used to process a purchase via Paypal. The items are small rhinestone letters for names and such.

The form is very simple in that the purchaser enters into form field one: the letters they wish to purchase.
Form field two (this is where I rely on common sense by the purchaser): enter the number of letters entered in form field one.

Based on the number of letters entered in form field two, my form processes the correct cost for the purchase.

As you have already figured out, I am beginning to see people enter their letter orders w/out entering the number of letters ordered.

All that said: a way to count the letters entered in form field one and auto-populate form field two with that number. Code:

SetTimeout - Does It Reset When The Mouse Is Moved?

Oct 3, 2005

How does setTimeout work? If the user moves the mouse or types some text
into a form, does it reset the timer? Or does it start running when first
triggered and simply timeout after that amount of time?

For example, if the timeout is set to 5 minutes and after 4.5 mins, the user
moves the mouse over the screen, does the timer reset to 5 mins or will it
still timeout after another 30 seconds?

Detect When The Window Is Moved In Order To Trigger Something

May 9, 2009

I want to detect when the window is moved, in order to trigger something. I have managed to get the current X and Y coordinates, but other than checking periodically for changed coordinates, is there a way to do this? I want to be able to trigger the code pretty instantly when the window is moved. Probably not possible without checking every half a second - this would be too cpu intensive right?

URL Validation If Entered

I've got a url field on a form that is not required but if it's entered I want it to be correctly entered to keep errors down. This is for an admin screen so I'm not concerned about cross site scripting attacks or anything, I just want to make sure that the URL is properly formed.

So far I've come up with the following code snip but I wonder if anyone can comment on it or perhaps come up with some improvements. Code:

Check Numbers Entered

Jul 23, 2005

I am constructing an HTML questionnaire and one of the questions
requires people to rate some choices from 1 to 5, where 1 is their
favourite and 5 is their least favourite:

Car
Bus
Taxi cab
Train
Airplane

Each choice has an INPUT TYPE=TEXT tag to contain the response. I
also have a function that is called ONCHANGE in order to check that a
number is entered between 1 and 5:

function CheckNos(obj) {
if(obj.value.match(/[^d]/) || obj.value<1 || obj.value>5)
{alert("Please enter a number between 1 and 5");obj.value="";return
false}
}

This works fine, but ideally I would like a function that could check
ONCHANGE that someone has not filled in the same number twice, for
example answered "1" for all of them. They are only allowed to use
each rating number once, so rating their choice 1 to 5.

Can anyone suggest a short function that could accomplish this easily?
Could I use some kind of array with 5 elements and allocate a flag
value once that number had been chosen, then check that the value had
been set?

JQuery :: When An Element Contains Script Tags And The Element Gets Moved/modified The Script Is Fired Twice

Jan 27, 2010

When an element contains script tags, and the element gets moved/modified, the script is fired twice. Is there any way to fix this issue without modifying the contents of script tags? We have customers who may add script to their CRM and would be beyond my control. I have included an example of the issue. Note that this can occur in wrapAll, sortable, and anything else which directly modifies the dom.

Test Sample : Copy this into a htm and correct the paths to the js files. You will see that the alert() fires before the 2nd content div is drawn and then again after the div containing the script is moved. Afterwards the script doesn't fire again.
