I want to detect when the window is moved, in order to trigger something. I have managed to get the current X and Y coordinates, but other than checking periodically for changed coordinates, is there a way to do this? I want to be able to trigger the code pretty instantly when the window is moved. Probably not possible without checking every half a second - this would be too cpu intensive right?

When the user closes the pop-up, I want my original page to redirect to another page. The difficulty I'm having is that I can't add any code to the page in the pop-up as it's not my site.

For this I am trying to detect the window.onload of the pop-up child window but so far I am unsuccessful. I believe my problem is that the URL of child window is on different domain, than the one of the opener(parent) so that the window.onload is not being called. Though this may change, at the moment I do not have access to the code for the page I'm opening up in the pop-up. Im pretty new to web development.

I have a little popup window I'm making. I'd like the window to just destroy itself if the user clicks on the original, calling page.
This is what I tried in the header section of the popup page but the code is not being triggered:

And the body tag thing actually DID close the window if the user clicked on the original calling page. BUT the window also closed if the user clicked on a combo box on the popup (because the body lost the focus), and that was not good..
I have a main page that opens a pop up window when the user clicks a
link. The pop up window is a menu and when the user clicks the item, it
populates a form input element on the 'parent' window.
My question is: this new populated form element is the value that I use
to change a style.
onchange does not watch this form element because of getelementbyid, so
it doesn't trigger the function needed to change the style. onchange
works fine if I just manually input a value into the text box.
Any other way to fire the function off when the user picks their
selection from the pop-up window? I was thinking I could use
window.opener.function()? But how do I pass the form from the parent
window? From the pop up window, I don't use this.form, what do I
use?something like window.opener.form[0] ?
I am doing some work, where I want to have a table heading that remains in a fixed position, when the window is scrolled (I will ultimately have a very long table). I have written the code below, which fixes the heading.
I am trying to make it so that each body row of the table gets hidden, when the window is scrolled such that the row passes above the heading row.
To do this I need to somehow detect the distance of each row from the top of the window as the window is scrolled so I can detect when it goes above the fixed heading row. I have tried to do this using offsetTop and scrollTop in the code below, but it doesn't seem to be working (in Safari at least, which I am using for my main testing).
Does anyone know a simple way of detecting the distance to the top of the window so I can use it in my code below, which will work in all browsers?
(I don't really want to use div, and overflow-y:auto to achieve the fixed heading scrollable table, because I don't want to have a sub-section with its own scrollbar. I just want to have the main page scrollbar when the list gets long enough to require it.)

Yes, there are examples of how to do this on the Web, but I have one more requirement and don't know how to code it. Not only do my pages break on 800x600, they also break if the browser widow is sized smaller on a 1024x768 screen. (I'm studying css that will dynamically respond to this but I'm not there yet.) Inside the popup window, there is a close icon to turn of the popup. Besides, if the user clicks outside of the popup, the popup will turn off as well. Ok so I have a site that I want to automatically close the window when the focus is lost from the page. For example, if the user clicks off the page to something else on there desktop I want the page to close. So far I have managed to do this but the grids on my page and the scroll bars all trigger the close function when clicked on. Is there anyway to make the scroll bars and drop down boxes not trigger the function?

Essentially, what I need to be able to do, is to reference a variable that is defined in a .resize() function ('width_page') in a seperate .each() function.

I now understand that variables can't cross boundaries like in the example above, which leaves me a little stuck. I also understand that this is specific to the context of the .resize() function, and that it can't be taken out of it without using an element selector. Is there some way I can call the .resize() function in my .each() function?
I'm relatively new to jQ and would like to determine if a named window is already open. If it is then I want to change focus to that window/tab. The scenario is this. I have a link in App1 that opens a new window to an already existing linked (related) web form in App2. If the user forgets they have that window open in App2 and clicks the same link in App1 as before (to open the related form in App2,) it opens a window that is not the same window as the original window. I need App1 to detect if a window already exists in the browser of the same name and if so, change the browser focus to it.
