Update A Hidden Form Value From A List Box
May 16, 2007
I have a page with 2 forms on, namely form1 and form2!!
In form1 there is a listbox with a drop down of IDs. Now if the user selects a different ID in that list, form2 hidden variable (qualstatus) needs to be updated with the new ID which was selected in form1. I have tried the following.
function changequal() {
document.form2.qualstatus.value = document.form1.qualstatus.value
}
with a
<select name="qualstatus" id="qualstatus" onChange="changequal()">
however this does not seem to update the value of
<input name="qualstatus" type="hidden" id="qualstatus" value="<%=(rsAction.Fields.Item("qualStatusID").Value)%>">

i am writing a script that will update a dropdown list based on the selection of a previous list. the script is run by a PHP script, so instead of posting the PHP, i will post an example client-side script. the hierachy is: category, sub category, brand (but sometimes there exists no sub category and the PHP script queries and adds brands instead) everything works correctly, except for one major issue: you can not change the selection of the third (brand) box this could be an easy fix for some coders, but i am not experienced in javascript and could really use some help. here is an example script, sorry it is so long

I've got a select box that, when you choose any option besides #5, it changes the value of a related input box from 0 to 1. This works great except when I hide() the div that wraps this input box. My overall goal is to have the input (and surrounding div) hidden via hide(), and then update this input box when a select is changed.
Here is my code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("div#edit-qty-56-wrapper").hide();
function enterQty() {
var attrValue = $( "select#edit-attributes-56-1" ).val();
if (attrValue !== '5') {
$("input#edit-qty-56").val('1');
} else {
$("input#edit-qty-56").val('0');
}}
$("select#edit-attributes-56-1" ).change(enterQty);
enterQty();
});

I have an idea for a little script.....I'm just stuck on one little part: When a user changes the value in a input or textarea box, I want it to change the value of a certain hidden input tag too.
Here's what I have so far:
function getNewValue(inputhidden, textinput) {
var data = document.getElementById(inputhidden);
var text = document.getElementById(textinput);
data.value = text.value;

I have a sql/recordset setup that returns an id number and description.
For example:
4test
7test44
9test123
I then have a drop down list that contains the id numbers. I'd like the recordset to return the matching record for whatever is selected in the drop down list. So if the drop down list equals "4". Then "test" would appear in the value of a hidden form field. If "9" was selected in the combo box then "test123" would be entered into the hidden form field. I'm not sure how to specify the value from the drop down list in my sql statement and also do not know how to update the value when the user changes the drop down list selection.

var a=x.insertCell(0);
var b=x.insertCell(1);
var c=x.insertCell(2);
var d=x.insertCell(3);
var e=x.insertCell(4);

I'm having a problem using javascript with a form. I'm using javascript to determine whether or not a person has selected "yes" or "no" from the select list. If "yes" is selected, the form is supposed to slide down and reveal two more fields. If "no" is selected, the form is supposed to slide back up hiding those two fields again.
When "yes" is selected, the form displays the two new fields properly. In Safari, it does the slideDown animation, yet in Firefox, the new form fields just suddenly display. If I select "no" again, nothing happens. The slideUp animation doesn't play. So currently I am having to use $("#parent1").hide(); to get the "no" to trigger.

I am trying to create a web page in which the contents of one selection list
depends upon which element in another selection list is chosen, but where
the information to populate the first selection list comves from an SQL
database on the web server.
There are a couple of these situations in my application but, for example,
the first list might be a list of counties, and the second list a list of
states/provinces. Obviously the names of counties depend upon which
state/province is chosen, but there are too many possibilities to be able to
embed them within the web page itself. So when the user selects a
state/province I need to go to the server to ask for the list of counties.
I have seen a number of posts that sort of address this issue. For example
it is suggested to use <script src="a URL"/> to ask the server side code to
send up data of type "text/javascript". However the examples do not seem to
address how the server side code would know which state/province the user
had selected.
If there is a web site that addresses this sort of thing, I would appreciate
any pointers.

I wrote an application using jquery/sortables and ran into a problem that I just don't understand well enough to tackle and hoping a jquery expert can see the solution where I don't.
I have a db setup like so
My page is setup to display multiple 'sortable' lists that allow the user to re-position elements (divs) with the mouse. Each div contains the 'content' (Bananas, Apples, etc) for users to see and they're even editable-in-place which all functions great.
THE PROBLEM: Each list has a class of 'biglist' in which I use the connectWith to allow these elements to be dragged from say myList3 to myList7.
Visually this looks great on the page but there's no DB functionality behind it to "SAVE" the new position. The only save that works is the elements position in its CURRENT list.
All 'content' in the fifth list for example is being generated from a SELECT statement [WHERE boxid = 5].
Each list has a different php file to generate its content that is virtuallyidentical
The order of each element is saved via a simple method in sortable's update function
Sorting is done here:
This is done roughly 10 times because there are ten lists. So here's the big question:
How can I pass the list's number (or create an ID for each list) that'll save WHICH list the items been moved to so that it's saved. (IE how can I change boxid instead of just Order)

I want to get the code ( I cant write it Im still a newbie ) to check a form user/pass and trigger another hidden form.
Heres what going on:
Have created a form, Form 1 Login: it has a username and pass fields. It shares the page with a Members Login form.
I want javascript to check the user/pass on Form 1 Login against a user/pass I assign. I assume I can assign one in the Javascript code.
The script does not send the form to the server, it just checks to see that the user/pass agrees with what Ive assigned.
The script, if the user/pass is the same as I assigned, triggers a Registration form to pop up that Ive hidden with CSS left:-999em.
Now the script has fulfilled its function, its done. But heres what continues and Adobe BC does this part.
User fills out the pop up Registration form with any user/pass, their valid email and name.
Clicks Submit and the form sends the New user a new personal pass and new username via email.
User adds New user/pass to Members form and is allowed into the site.
This is a round about way but, I can not use php or server side in this process, BC does not allow server side only client side. So Im doing a work around. I know someone could find the Javascript even in a js folder. Tight security is not an issue. I researched this for weeks and BC tells me it will work with their system...I just dont know how to write it.

For instance, Box A has a blank entry and I enter in 5. Box B I enter in 6
so in Box C it should automatically give me 11 (if the code I put in is to
add box A and B). Then in Box D I put in 3 (say to subtract from A and B
combined) so then Box C adjusts to give me 8.
Don't worry about the math as that's all taken care of it, I just need to be
able to know how to update on the fly like this.

If he adds or change form data cookies are instantly updated. What I need is if the user goes back (back browser button) to pageA, the form here is updated from updated cookies. Only Firefox 3 does the job without extra code. Ive tried all sort of things I found on the web with Opera 10, Chrome and Safari 3.

I'm making a survey where every question has a numeric value assigned to it, and as the user clicks on a checkmark button to approve (or uncheck to disapprove) the values add or subtract to give a total at the bottom of the page.
Basically, it's a spreadsheet but with fixed values for each row instead of being able to type them in.
I can do this easily with php, but only if the user clicks the submit button. I was hoping to find a way to do this real-time.
I'm not looking for someone to do this for me, but can someone point me in the right direction of a tutorial or something that is similar so I can build this into my program?

Is there a way to change a javascript's output on a website without directly manipulating the source code? Just by entering some info in a form, then hitting submit. Then it automatically changes the content of a website.
What I want to happen is to change some text (specifically a news ticker) on my javascript, located in between the head tags, just by inputting new information on a form which automatically replaces the old one.

I'm doing an ajax call to a remote php file... it returns a value fine,
and even enters a value into a text field on my form. The problem is,
right after the function call to the ajax function, I do an alert of
what the field value is, and it doesn't recognize the field value has
been changed. Two caveats:
1 - It will recognize the last call's change
(if I run it a 2nd time, it'll see the 1st call changes)
onBlur="ajaxCall(document.form1);alert(document.form1.ajax Field.value);">
2 - It'll recognize the current call's change if I set a 2 second
timeout
onBlur="ajaxCall(document.form1);setTimeout('checkFields(d ocument.form1)',2000);">
It seems, although I can see the text field getting updated,
programmatically speaking, it isn't reflecting it until everything is
done... including any alerts and such.
It's weird seeing the empty alert popup, when I can see the value in
the text field underneath it.

I need to make a change to a web page that has lots of JQuery things in it, it appears. Not knowing anything about the actual use of JQuery, however, while I will start looking at the doc, can someone
help me with what to look for in a 4000+ line file to find out where the value is being set for the hidden field. I have been unable to identify this. There appears to be no onChange or onSubmit JavaScript call. I have been given this file with the need to figure this out right away, with a very tight timeline to make many changes, so this one item can't take the time required to start learning the whole of JQuery before I can make a change.
