I have a form on a web page, with one field to enter a code, to search for a property.On clicking 'submit' I want to be able to run a script asynchronously in the background.The script will need to run a MYSQL statement which will have one of these results:
1. The property code does not exist, so display a Javascript Alert saying it does not exist.
2. The property is for sale, so call an existing javscript function 'saleSubmit(propertyCode)' to overwrite the exsiting web page with a new page sale.php for that property code
3. The property is for rent, so call an existing javscript function 'rentSubmit(propertyCode)' to overwrite the exsiting web page with a new page rent.php for that property code
My slills are in PHP and MySQL and I have no knowledge of tools like Ajax, jQuery and I am currently having problems getting my head around it. I have spent ages visiting lots of websites looking for examples on how to do this with little success.
*The Situation*
A traditional situation where HTML form inputs are checked...
(if simplified then it would look something like this)
<form onSubmit="return checkWholeForm(this)">
<!-- other inputs -->
<input type="text" name="anInput" onBlur="dataCheck(this, ...)" />
<span id="error_anInput"></span>
<!-- other inputs -->
<input type="submit" name="btnSubmit" />
</form>
dataCheck validates the inputs value and if something is wrong, then..
document.getElementById('error_anInput').innerHTML = 'Error!'
or if data is valid then the content of span is removed.
The checkWholeForm function iterates through all elements on the form
and triggers onblur() for each input... leading to executing function
dataCheck (and so changing innerHTML of some specific span elements if
needed).
*The Problem*
If I have entered incorrect data to an input and hit the submit button
with my mouse (causing the onBlur event to be triggered just right
before onSubmit) then *occasionally* for some fields the onSubmit event
is not triggered because the onClick event is not triggered. :S
As there are actually quite many complex functions (tested and these
seem OK afaik) that are doing the checks then dowes anyboudy have a clue
what type of code might break this. I thought at first that setting
innerHTML to some value during onBlur disables all waiting events but as
this is happening occasionally (on some machines) I'm in doubt...
any ideas what to check? double declaration of function/variable names?
Not deleting some object after usage? ... anything?
Waiting for any ideas...
PS. http://eix.lap.ee/test/portali_js.html in the example *occasionally*
third field generates the error - remove any content from the field
and stright hit the submit (*with mouse* - to create onBlur and onClick
at the same time).
We have a couple of textboxes in a form. All of which are validated onblur. The form is submitted onclick of an anchor tag.SubmitWindows platform browsers(Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE): When validateMyText() returns false, onclick is not triggered. This is the expected and existing behaviour.Mac platform browsers (Firefox, Safari): Even after validateMyText() returns false, onclick event is triggered, which submits the form.Background: This is a legacy application that was supported only on Windows platform and IE browser. Now it has to be enhanced to work on all the browsers(Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE) on Windows and Firefox, Safari on Mac.
View 3 Replies View Relatedneed urgent help with javascript arrays. I need to store the checked value of the radiobutton into an array and then display the result from that array.I have created an empty array to store the input from the textbox of the form using the JS insert() function and then used show() function to display the result... but I am unable to display which option the user has selected from the radiobutton.if you look at it in the browser, and type in a name in the name textbox and click submit....it displays the result (which was stored in the inputarray) but the radiobutton doesnt work...gives.."undefined" and should give either Male or Female, depending on what the user selects.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an editable div, when clicked displays two buttons - save and cancel. When either button is pressed the respective function takes place. The problem I'm having is with the onblur function. When a targetElement loses focus, I want to figure out which new element gained the focus - if it is the save button then I want the save function to fire. However, if it is any other element then I want the cancel function to fire.
I'm trying to figure out once an editable div is selected and the user clicks the save button, how do I determine that the save button was clicked and trigger the save function - because with the onblur method attached to the editable div any click outside the div is interpreted as a call to the onblur method, even if the save button is clicked.
document.getElementById("cancelEdit").onclick = function(){ cancelEdit(targetElement, initialContent ); };
document.getElementById("saveEdit").onclick = function(){ saveEdit(targetElement) };
targetElement.onblur = function(){
if (document.getElementById("saveEdit").onfocus){
saveEdit(targetElement);
} else { cancelEdit(targetElement, initialContent ); }
};
what happens when you have an onclick event and an error occurs in it:
In an <a> element:
onclick="zoomFullExtent(); return false;"
I know that there is an error happening in zoomFullExtent. I didn't
define my own error handler, so the default one is used.(My browser is
Firefox 1.0).
I notice that when this error happens, the browser makes a request to
the server.
I thought that if an error happened in zoomFullExtent, the default
error handler would catch it, and then zoomFullExtent would return
normally. But that doesn't seem to happen. Instead the whole onclick
script returns or is aborted? And it seems to return true so that the
request is made. Is there a page where this program flow is explained?
I just downloaded the new Adobe Edge program for creating HTML5 websites. I was trying out a proof of concept for something I wanted to do on a site with a simple circle shape (will eventually be a soccer ball) rolling across the screen when clicked. The animation looks great, but it happens when the page loads, not when the image is clicked.

i have registered a validation function as the onclick event handler. It runs for the first time but does not run when i click on the button the second time. ( this is because i have put an aert box in the validation function and it does not show up when i click on the submit button for the second time)
here is the code
Code:
<input type="submit" value="Submit" action="submit.php " onClick="return validate('add_item_form');">

Have spent over 40 hours trying to make something like this work. Any help will be received with profound gratitude. First, we reference a script whose purpose is to create a space for session variables similar to cookies. Works if it appears early in body of Drupal page, so this is not the issue (Drupal parses pages down for display so there is no user <head> tag).

Im a PHP developer and am quite new with javascript. I wanted some help on the hyperlink onclick event. Bascially I output a list of a href hyperlinks on a html page that goes all the way to the bottom of the screen. I wanted to add a onclick event to the a href tag that would pust the user right to the top of the page. I want to achieve this using javascript onclick event.

I would like to have an onClick function that when the object (image that submits a form) is clicked on, it runs a PHP script as well as submitting the form. I can get it to work by opening a new window, but I don't want this to happen as it looks fairly spammy even when you use javascript to immediately close that window after the PHP script has done its bit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new to this forum and am trying to find answers to a few issues I've been having. I'm building a website for my music (I'm a novice with web design so bear with me) and I'm having trouble with this page - [URL]...
As you can see, when you click on the "Filter By" buttons, the relevant gallery opens in the iFrame and the Titles (such as Latest Photos and Live Photos) are altered onclick by using the changeText function. The problem with this is that when I use the browser "Back" button, the iFrame goes back, but the "changeText" doesn't go with it.
So I've been trying to find solutions to this. Someone on another forum suggested hiding the album titles in a hidden element on each gallery page, and the title in when you click on the Filter By buttons. They suggested first putting some code such as: <input type="hidden" name="AlbumTitle" value="Live Photos">

Problem: I want to send an URL via button but i don't want to get the result.
At the moment i use this form to send the URL, which enables a control unit:
<form><input type=button value="switch on"
As result i see a new page with "0" or "1", which i'd like to hide.
What can i do to send the URL without getting the result to the browser ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSimply put, I need to take a variable (The number '20' in this case) that is displayed by an input box on my web page and plug it into a function so that whenever I click on a button, the number in the input box will decrease by 1.
Seems simple enough, though for hours I've been going at it with no luck. Skipping the rest of my code - I currently have:

The entire code is a slot machine project that's supposed to be extremely simple where you hit the button and it spins 3 wheels, 3 of the same image and you win. Every spin takes $1, every win gives $13.
The majority of the code is already working, however for some reason I appear to be failing badly at getting the read out to show a decrement of $1 every time you push the button.
I've tried so many different ideas that I've found across w3schools, webdevelopersnotes, dave-reed, ect - and so far I haven't been able to get any of them to work correctly.
I have an issue on the following page: [url]
If you look on the right panel, at the heading "What our clients / journalists say", you will notice that it fades into another set of text. However when the page first loads because it takes a few seconds loading in the twitter feed, you will see a big lump of text running down the page.
Only when the Twitter feed has loaded does the lump of text disappear. Can i overcome this somehow?
Anyone has code to program a back button for a page that uses html5 and AJAX?

But i can't get back to a resulting page after filters have been selected?
It was originally an imaged based menu, but they wanted it all changed to css/html. I used quickmenu and it used JS to produce the arrows at the top of each menu item.I'm trying to program the menu items to stay active when on the current page. At first, it looks correct, but if you hover back over the menu, it changes back to the inactive state.
