Call The Click Event Of The Link (anchor Tag) On The Click Of The Button?

Jan 24, 2011

I want to call the click event of the link (anchor tag) on the click of the button. I used this code below in the click event of button to call links click event and it works fine in IE.

document.getElementById('linktag').click();

But, this doesn't work in Firefox. I googled a bit and found that in firefox, you have to do something more to achieve this behaviour. So, I ended up doing this on button click to work in firefox:

var link=document.getElementById('linktag');
var e = document.createEvent('MouseEvents');
e.initEvent(

[code]....

The above code does the click on link when I click on the button. But my problem now is that I have defined a link as

<a href="mailto:abc@xyz.com?subject=abc&body=email body">email </a>

and when click is called and mailto links opens my email client, it somehow ignores the subject and body parameters of the link. It works properly when i actually click a link element. but it doesn't work when i simulate the click event by code written above. above dispatching event code somehow ignores the link parameters?

JQuery :: Link Click Event Stopped Working?

Aug 1, 2010

I had the following, which worked perfectly:

<a href="#" class="page">1</a><a href="#" class="page">2</a><a href="#" class="page">3</a>
and the jQuery:
$('.page').click(function() {
console.log("you clicked");
});

But now when I add the links within a div, it stops working.

<div id="newsPages" class="pageNumbers">
<a href="#" class="page">1</a><a href="#" class="page">2</a><a href="#" class="page">3</a>
</div>

This frustrates me so much, because shouldn't it still find the links? I tried the below just to make my selection more precise (even though I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter if there are no other links of that class on the page):

$('#newsPages .page').click(function() {
console.log("you clicked");
});
$('.pageNumbers .page').click(function() {
console.log("you clicked");
});

JQuery :: Select A Link Caused By A Click Event?

Mar 29, 2010

i have build a website with google maps. You can find it here: [URL]

Within this website you can search for farmers in Baden-W├╝rttemberg Germany. So if you try to use it for debugging just search for "Stuttgart" f.e.

My problem is that if i click on a marker displayed in the map the associated pagination tab should be opened. I tried to select the link matching the pagination tabs within the Google Gevent.addListener event like: $('a.'+linkid).html('klick mich');

Chaning the html code of the linkid was just for me, so i understand how jQuery works. But how do i implement the function i need?

JQuery :: Triggering A Click Event Via (event.button != 0)?

Apr 8, 2010

I have an object that has a click event I'm trying to trigger. However in the click event I have the following if statement:

if(event.button != 0){return true;}

This if statement allows right clicks to go through and activate but it also prevents me from triggering the event. Any ideas on how to prevent this? If I remove the if statement from the first click function everything works as intended.Here's my example code based off of the trigger event examples:

JQuery :: Stopping A Click Event With Another Click Event?

Nov 23, 2010

I would like to create a plugin that I can put before a click event on a button. The click event should occur if the user's time on the page hasn't expired. The plugin should check the user's time, and then stop the click event if the time has expired. With the plugin, I'm essentially putting two click events on the same button, as I need to check the expiration when the button is clicked. The plugin is working on my test page, but I'm afraid that this is contingent on an arbitrary ordering of the click events by jQuery. If I have my click event chained after my plugin, can I be assured that the plugin would always stop the click event if the time is expired? Or could jQuery execute the click event before the time gets checked?

(function( $ ){
$.fn.checkExpiration = function(
$this = $(this);
return this.each(function(){3

JQuery :: Dynamically Created Buttons Click Event Fires Last Bound Event For All Buttons?

Aug 24, 2011

I create buttons from an array of objects that such as:

buttons = [{ text: "button 1", action: 1}, {text: "button 2", action: 2}];

I then loop thru the array to assign the text and bind the click event after having created the buttons with IDs of "button_<index>".

for( var index in buttons ) {
$("#button_"+index).html ( buttons[index].text )
.click( function() { clickButton( buttons[index].action ) } );
}

The text appears correctly in the button, but every button defined only fires the list bound click, in this example the action equal to'2'whether I push "Button 1" or "Button 2".My actual case has four buttons, all firing the event for the fourth button.I've tried not chaining the .click(), going thru the loop twice once for the .html and once for the .click, neither of which made a difference. If I hard code each button .click, it works fine.

Mouseover Event For Row

Jul 20, 2005

I have a grey coloured table that displays certain columns in either
red, green or orange to give meaning and emphasis to certain data.

What I want to do now is setup some kind of javascript event so that
when the user mouse's over a row the row changes colour to highlight
it. I've discovered however that I can only change the row into one
specific colour, and then back again into one specific colour using a
mouseover and mouseout event in the row.

I tried moving my event from the row tag into the table cell tags
thinking I was being clever (see below), but had I thought about it
I'd have realised this wasn't going to work either.

Can this actually be done in Javascript as I've exhausted my limited
javascript knowledge and dont know what else to try Code:

Here's my problem. I have a list with items, it's a <ul> containing <li> elements. These are covered by a transparent <div> (used for mousetracking and speed calculations). Now how do I get jquery to catch the onmouseover event on the list elements? The div is catching all events, so none of them are fired by the li elements. Is there a way?

How To Script Two Arrays For Mouseover Event?

Sep 1, 2011

I know this maybe sounds "newbie", perhaps I am still one.I have 3 divs, all of them in a group "name", there are h1 tags inside them with names too. Well actually I have many many divs like this in several pages so I must use a JS sheet (.js).The idea is to create an event for the divs, a mouseover event to a div in order to change the color of the words inside the h1 tags. When the mouse is over one particular div the word inside it must change to red.

So the behaviour now is: When my mouse is over the menu item, it expands (width 220px), when I remove my mouse it shrinks back (width 95px). Now I want it to stay expanded when I click on it and shrink back and expand a new menu item when I click it.

Menu item are listed, using different css classes for designing their looks.

Change Mouse Icon On MouseOver() Event?

Jul 19, 2009

i have a simple div that has one line of text. the text is blue and underlined, so it looks like a link. i have an onclick() event for it to change element visibilities on my page. i would really like to change the mouse icon from an arrow to the hand pointer (the one you see when you hover over a hyperlink) when the mouse is over the div. i'm not sure if I need an API call for something like this or not. Hopefully there is a simpler way to do this than what i am doing. I tried experimenting with <a href> but i have no actual link to use, as i am not linking to anything.

Lightbox - Mouseover Event Not Triggered Correctly

Mar 31, 2010

I am using Lightbox+ and overall it's very good for my needs. However it has a small problem. If you goto [URL] and click on the image "Sample 2" then use the next arrow to go to "Sample 3" you have to hover off the image and then back on to get the previous and zoom icons to show again. I have been able to make the bug occur every time in both Firefox 3.6 and IE6. I am guessing the mouseover event isn't triggering correctly due to the image object moving underneath the mouse pointer but I just can't fix it.

JQuery :: Change Event So That It Animate On Mouseover?

May 12, 2009

I am trying to accomplish two things on this demonstration page.

1. Have a image slideshow

2. On mouseover the slideshow temporarily stops and a caption comes up and stays until mouseout. At which point the slideshow begins again.

Currently right now the slideshow cycles, but the caption part is erratic. It shows on document load and also continues to show on mouseout. Furthermore if you mouseover the image several times it and then move away it keeps firing.

JQuery :: Adding Short Delay Before Triggering Mouseover Event

Jul 11, 2010

I've been using this little bit of code to show a div when the user rolls over a link:
$('a#eventspopupbtn').mouseover(function() {$('#menu').hide('fast'); $('#eventspopup').show('fast');
return false;
});
I have been trying to extend this bit of code so that there is a short delay built inso that if the user rolls over the link by mistake or 'just passing through' the div is not displayed. I tried using setTimeout but couldn't get that working (unfortunately, I can't share that with you because I lost the code).
