Make The Image Map Call A Function Instead Of A Link For Searching Site

I want to use an image map for something unique. The image would have about 10 to 15 (religious) symbols. When the user clicks on a particular symbol it will search the site for a few strings relating to that symbol. For example: Symbol 1 would be a cross when clicked it search the site for "christ, crucifix, christianity". I am sure I can make the image map but how do I make the image map call a function instead of a link.

I have made a javascript image viewer where there are thumbnails at the top and when you click on them the bigger image below the row of thumbnail image changes accordingMy question is, how do i make the larger image become a hyperlink to the corresponding page it represents. Alternatively, it would not be a problem if a caption could be displayed below which i could make into a hyperlink.Here is my script .js file

On a project I got stuck on this "problem". When you make a json (ajax) call. You also need a callback function. Which means I have to call the next $.getJSON within that callback function to read the next portion of data. In my opinion this is not very readable code...What I want is a nice and readable piece of code. Where you could just write it like this:
var data1 = $.getJSON(..);
var data2 =$.getJSON(..);
I've found a solution here: [URL] (explains my problem perfectly). But it's not compatible with the getJSON story. Is there already a possibility to do this with the jquery library?

I can't get it to work. In firefox i get the error " $("ul#nav_prim a")[i].css" is not a function.

I would like to include drop-down navigation links on my home page that connect to other pages on my website. No problem there. The problem is that some of the other pages contain a series of div elements that are hidden (display:none) until activated by javascript enabled links on the page. Clicking those links changes some of the page's content (within a div) .. almost like a "new" page. [URL]. Here's my question: Is there any way to create menu links on my home page that will open the "concert.html" page AND display the appropriate div content at the same time?
For example: on the home page, a menu link under "Concert" that opens that page and automatically displays the "Rock Symphonies" section?

I'm new to jQuery, but learning fast, and loving the new functionality!I'm using a Flash upload component that all works fine, and once it's complete (file uploaded) it calls function.I'm running the Flash upload in a modal (nyroModal - very cool!). I am trying to create an image viewer with javascript and CSS. Unfortunately however, the onclick events in my image tags seem to work every once in a while for a few page loads then for some reason they just stop working completely and seemingly for no reason at all (i.e. I dont change any code). I've been messing around with this for at least a couple of weeks now and cant figure it out, so it is time to hit up the forums.

I am writing a Javascript to sort and write out some stuff. PHP is not an option so I need to get this script working.
The problem arises when I want to make a link to the next page. (i.e. Like the link in Google for the next 10 results)
I have <a href=# onclick=FUNCTION(VALUES)> written dynamically by the script.
It is written onto the document correctly, but the problem is, when the link is clicked, some seemingly random values are passed to the function.
When you run the code, the first alert will show all the values that a were passed to the function. The second and third will show what was written to the document.
If you try clicking the next button after the code loads, the values that result will be unusual.

I'm trying to build a menu with an animation color and my problem is that the funtion is apply to all the links in the menu but ideally I would like to apply to all elements less the one with the id current.
at the moment I just created two functions but still apply both of them to the current link.

In my website I have a slideshow that is working properly with this jQuery code:

The problem is that this last slideshow (that I call the images with the .load function) is not working properly as you can see here (too hard to explain, better just see, 1st thumbnail). I found it difficult trying to put a short and concise title for you all to understand.My problem: Basically, I have an image (its a + sign), when clicked I need this + to change to a -. When clicked again, it needs to return to being a +.Below is the current code I am using:

Can anyone assist me with what I am trying to do with the following
code (six different scenarios to try to make the functionality work
correctly)?
I want to always (and ONLY) display in the status bar 'Symantec
Corporation' whenever anyone mouses over (onMouseOver) my image or
link OR when one clicks while holding the left mouse down (onClick) on
the same image or link. Upon releasing the mouse (onMouseOut), the
status bar should be 'blank'. I need the link to open in a new window
via my function openWindow(URL) code.
What is happening in most of the six scenarios, is that when one
clicks the link, either the function doesn't engage, but rather the <a
href= takes effect instead OR that status bar shows
'javascript:openWindow('http://www.symantec.com/');' when one clicks
while holding the left mouse down (onClick) on the image or link.
Additionally, for only the link, I need the CSS/style to show 'red'
when one mouses over (onMouseOver) it and then change to 'blue' upon
releasing the mouse (onMouseOut).
How about integrating 'style="cursor:hand"' into the code or perhaps
setting some of the data via a <div> or <span> snippet? Code:
