Knocks Out CSS:hover - Make The Left Product Categories Background Position "rollover" Menu Work
Apr 22, 2010
im trying to make the left Product Categories background position "rollover" menu work on this page: [URL] at the moment the page loads and CSS hover works to set the background position so that the graphic behind makes a roll over effect. i put some javascript to set the background position permantly to the roll over on click (so the user can see which one they are on) but then this knocks out the roll over effect on all other categories - it knocks out the CSS hover: onclick="setStyle('c1','backgroundPosition','0px 0px');
it means that c1:hover no longer works.. i tried putting !important in the CSS c1:hover background position and this fixed it in Firefox but not IE. So how can i write something in Javascript to also say: onclick="setStyle('c1:hover','backgroundPosition','-276px 0px');
i know Javascript does not do hyphens and the way to get for example "background-position" in CSS is to ditch the hyphen and make "P"osition capitol. perhaps something can be done also to get to the CSS hover attribute?

What I am trying to do is randomize the position of a div that slides in from the left when you hover over an image.
Here is the script I am working with courtesy of Build Internet
Here is the css that goes with it
I would like to randomize the value of the top position in the css and the value of right:'30%' with values in a preset range.

Am working on a web template similar to this one: [URL] and would like to change the hover color for the menus (in blue with white text). What would be the best color to match if the menu background is left as it is when hovering on a menu item?

I tried to create a mouse over effect using jquery. When user hovers #box1_trigger link, the #service_box1 div should change it's background position. The code I created is the following it's not working for some reason.
html:
<div class="service_box box1" id="service_box1">
<a href="#" id="box1_trigger">
<h3> </h3>
<p> </p>
</a>
</div>
javascript:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#box1_trigger").hover(
function() {
$("#service_box1").stop().animate({backgroundPosition:"(0 -250px)"}, "slow");
},
function() {
$("#service_box1").stop().animate({backgroundPosition: "0 0"}, "slow");
}
);
});
</script>
css:
#service_box1{
width:318px; height:282px;
float:left;
background:url(images/services_panel.png) 0 0 no-repeat;
}
a#box1_trigger{
width:100%; height:100%;
float:left;
display:block;
}

there was any premade dropdown menu which opens based on what position you are on the page.
For example, when I'm on the top of the page and hover the mouse over the dropdown menu, the menu opens upward instead of downward because the navigation is mid-screen. But if I was to be more than halfway across the screen and still see the navigation as it was on top of the screen and hover the mouse over it, the dropdown menu opens downward as oppose to up.

I use sprites for rollover effects so the hover attribute just changes the background image position. Everything works cool with the rollovers. What I would like to do, is make a text link that when rolled over will change a separate background image to it's hover state. I should add, that the the rollover image has it's own div and is separate from where the text link is located. To get a visual you can check the website [URL] In the body section I would like to make each of the dark red section titles a link that when rolled over will change the hover state of the corresponding "more" button.

I installed a template on the following site and did not actually write the javascript dropdown menu seen at the top of [url]
The problem is that if parent list items Ministries and Parish Leadership have enough children, they expand out right off of the screen of low resolution setups.
I am totally new to javascipt programming so excuse my ignorance when I ask how to make the children items to expand out left instead of right if it's detected that the menu has hit the right side of the browser window.

I'm trying to make a gallery with quotes and I want to categorize them. The problem is that some of the quotes have to be in 2 or more categories. I can make one html page for each category and if a quote applies to more than one just duplicate it on the two categories. But that seems very inflexible.
I was wondering if it is possible to make a gallery with tags. Just like in a wordpress blog every blog post has a tag or a category assigned to it. When you click on the category all posts in the same category appear.
If I can tag every quote with a category and then set these categories as links on my home page that will save me a lot of time. It will also be much more flexible and easy to change a quote's categories without having to go through each html page to look for it.
Is it possible to make something like that with javascript?

I am using a drop down menu for a website I'm working on to display menu items under categories. I'm using the same code to do this on two different pages with the actual content of the menu's loading from a MySQL database using PHP scripts. [URL] On the menu.php page I left the code below in the mix which drops down the first category listed on the left. On the seasonal.php page I took the code below out and it no longer drops down any menu by default when the page is loaded. What I'd like to do is drop down nothing initially when the page is loaded but if someone opens up the "Cupcakes" category and clicks on an item it would keep that category open when it loads the item details in the center column. If you need to see more code let me know!
[Code]...

#navigation li is the parent element, which is positioned relative.The ul element above that is also position relative. I previously tested a click function and was able to confirm I was getting the correct position back, so now I just need to set the CSS property correctly for all of those links.The reason I want to do this is I have a set of links that appear over a photo of a city skyline. When you hover over those items, I want them to be given a background image that is a blurred and lightened version of the same photo so it needs to line up (sort of like the tabs are made of frosted glass).

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for some time now without using flash and I'm getting nowhere.
So, I have a rollover button with the 2 button images in the same image, using negative height in CSS to perform the rollover (just like the button here). I would love it if the rolled-over image would pulse while the mouse is hovered over it.
Any ideas on how to achieve this or a library that would support something like this? SO far I've just started researching jQuery UI effects and such, but I'm hitting a wall with progress.

I'm using superfish menu jquery plugin, and I'm wondering if someone know how to update plugin that you can decide if sub - sub menus wil be shown on the right (that is in the original) or on the left side of the parent menu.
The problem is, that if the last menu is near the end of the browser, than the sub - sub menu will go off side the browser.

How can I set the menu to automatically expand on mouse rollover instead of click? Here is the code as it stands right now:
$(document).ready(function () {
$('img.menu_class').click(function () {
$('ul.the_menu').slideToggle('medium');
});
});
Second Question: For some reason, the menu is appearing behind a table row when it expands, thus hiding a good portion of the menu. Here it is: [URL]
Try clicking on 'Products & Services', and then clicking on "Centerfire Rifle Suppressors" from the dropdown menu. When it takes you to that category page, click the menu again and you will see that the menu hides behind the <h1> table row.

I want to use the .css of jquery to take lets say 5 buttons css position absolute left value. I want increase this value. So it will move the buttons to the right. I have a button that when clicked that it will run this jquery code. Where the 5 buttons moves to the right. I want to do this all at ones. In otherwords I want to put $("#1_button,#2_button,#3_button").css("left": function (value) { code to increase left position value}); I want to do something like that. Is it possible? and how would one do it. what I want it to do is grab all the buttons left position value and then add numbers to it to increase all buttons left position shifting all to the right. So if I add 10px I want all buttons to increase by 10px causing it to move 10px to the right.

In the past I've done image rollovers and that's fine. I got scripts for those, and got them to switch fine. But what I want to do is edit the backgroudn color of a TD, which is code defined, and not an image. Anyways, the basic thing I'm doing is a table that hold lots of numbers. I'm creating a "times table" - which looks roughly something like this:
......1 2 3 //top row (multiples)
1.....1 2 3
2.....2 4 6
3.....3 6 9
Now, when you rollover, let's say, the '6' - the TD background color for the '6', left '2' and top '3' would change to a different color (bolded in this example). This would work the same way for every other number as well, which involves overlapping classes. I've search for an answer for hours, to no avail. And here's a more "code specific" example of the table:
Code:
<table>
<tr>
<td>1</td><td>2</td><td>3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>1</td><td>1</td><td>2</td><td>3</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>2</td><td>2</td><td>4</td><td>6</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>3</td><td>3</td><td>6</td><td>9</td>
</tr>
</table>
Also, the image rollover script I have goes like this:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function MM_swapImgRestore() { //v3.0
var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a[i])&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x.oSrc;
}function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0
var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new Array();
var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0; i<a.length; i++)
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
} .....

Was wondering if it's possible to find the left position of a table cell if
the cell is created dynamically.
I have a table with a single cell. When a button is clicked, I'd like to add
another cell to it, give the cell a class style and then find the cell's
left position. Right now I'm using doing this:
cell = document.createElement("td");
cell.appendChild("sometext");
cell.className = "cellStyle";
tableRow = document.getElementById(theTableRowId);
tableRow.appendChild(cell);
How would I get the left position of each cell added?
