I am simply trying to alert the left position of a css layer.

The problem is the alert is blank and I can't understand why.
I need some help on how to reposition a layer depending on the position of an image? I know this should be somewhere in the forum, but I searched without success.
I mean like this:

...And when the page is loaded the layer moves infront of the image.
I am trying to make a layer that mimics a particular cell in a table (please dont ask me why, its complicated). I have created the layer so that its dimensions exactly match the table cell in question. Now I want to create a function that sets the top and left position of the layer to exactly match the top and left position of the cell in question. I have already had a try myself, but for the life of me can't quite figure it out.
I tried giving the cell in question and 'id' tag (id="centerCol") and then referencing the left and top values of the object. See the following code:
document.getElementById('layerHeader').style.left = document.getElementById('centerCol').style.left;
Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?
I have a div with opacity 0.44 and a picture inside it. When i activate mouse events, this picture (with position absolute ) floats to top. This effect is seen only in Opera. Is there a workaround for this?

I want to use the .css of jquery to take lets say 5 buttons css position absolute left value. I want increase this value. So it will move the buttons to the right. I have a button that when clicked that it will run this jquery code. Where the 5 buttons moves to the right. I want to do this all at ones. In otherwords I want to put $("#1_button,#2_button,#3_button").css("left": function (value) { code to increase left position value}); I want to do something like that. Is it possible? and how would one do it. what I want it to do is grab all the buttons left position value and then add numbers to it to increase all buttons left position shifting all to the right. So if I add 10px I want all buttons to increase by 10px causing it to move 10px to the right.

Signing Scripts. In Chapter 11, I explained that JavaScript does not provide the ability to directly access files on the client computer. This can be a very large hurdle to overcome if you're trying to upload a file to a server from the client computer. Fortunately, file uploading is one of many functional enhancements that signed scripts provide. Signed scripts are specially packaged scripts that have been verified and signed to be correct and non-threatening. These scripts have additional rights on the client computer that allow a programmer to do many things that he wouldn't otherwise be able to.
With the introduction of Netscape 4.0, a new security model was put in place that would allow digitally signed scripts to bypass some of the restrictions that had previously been placed on them. A signed script can request expanded privileges from the visitor and, with the visitor's permission, gain access to restricted data. A script signer can be a person or an organization. By signing a script, you acknowledge yourself as the author and accept responsibility for the program's actions. A signed script contains a cryptographic checksum, which is just a special value that ensures the signed script has not been changed. When a digital signature is detected, you are assured that the code has not been tampered with since the programmer signed it.
Once you finish writing a script, you can use the Netscape Signing Tool to digitally sign it. Signing a script does the following:
Unambiguously assigns ownership of the script to a person or organization.
Allows an HTML page to use multiple signed scripts.
Places the signed script into a Java Archive (JAR) file.
Places the source of the script in the JAR file.
Once a user confirms the origin of the script and is assured that it has not been tampered with since its signing, he or she can then decide whether to grant the privileges requested by the script based on the validated identity of the certificate owner and validated integrity of the script.

At some point while scrolling,the div 'movable' flickers continuously,while at some other point,it is perfectly stable.
im trying to make the left Product Categories background position "rollover" menu work on this page: [URL] at the moment the page loads and CSS hover works to set the background position so that the graphic behind makes a roll over effect. i put some javascript to set the background position permantly to the roll over on click (so the user can see which one they are on) but then this knocks out the roll over effect on all other categories - it knocks out the CSS hover: onclick="setStyle('c1','backgroundPosition','0px 0px');
it means that c1:hover no longer works.. i tried putting !important in the CSS c1:hover background position and this fixed it in Firefox but not IE. So how can i write something in Javascript to also say: onclick="setStyle('c1:hover','backgroundPosition','-276px 0px');
i know Javascript does not do hyphens and the way to get for example "background-position" in CSS is to ditch the hyphen and make "P"osition capitol. perhaps something can be done also to get to the CSS hover attribute?
is there any feature to slide the images in accordion form left to right and right to left with minimum time frame(delay)?

i am facing a problem after using jquery jconfirm alert. Issue is that after receiving confirm alert, when user press tab to go on Cancel button and press Enter key there, despite of firing event of Cancel button, it fires the event of OK button. this issue is not produced when user press the cancel button by mouse. I am trying to throw an alert with the attributes of a submit button in the alert.
What am I doing wrong?
#navigation li is the parent element, which is positioned relative.The ul element above that is also position relative. I previously tested a click function and was able to confirm I was getting the correct position back, so now I just need to set the CSS property correctly for all of those links.The reason I want to do this is I have a set of links that appear over a photo of a city skyline. When you hover over those items, I want them to be given a background image that is a blurred and lightened version of the same photo so it needs to line up (sort of like the tabs are made of frosted glass).

I am trying to make a banner the size of the with of my screeen, in
a layer.
BUt I also want to fade it to a complete transperency to reveal the contents
of what's behind it (my page ofcourse) and possible close or hide the faded
layer.
I've seen stuff like that happen in a flash everonment. I was thinking about
using a transition at first to go from one page to another with an
introductory page.
But I rather have everything on one page and just fade the introdutory layer
into the page. Is that too much work for jscript?
I have a strange behaviour when applying onmouseout to a layer. it is
not trigged when the pointer goes out of the _layer_ but when it goes
off the _text within_ the layer.
