I want to make HTML appear as text to maybe write some snippets on a site. I know that there is a way to make < and > by using < and > but I would like something that were a bit easier to remember and quicker like maybe using jQuery to take the content from a snippet and turn it into regular text.
I have this normal HTML page, starts with <!DOCTYPE ...... and end with </html>, nothing special, what I need is to get every character from the beginning to the end.I've tried $("html").html(), but this cannot get the <!DOCTYPE line and also the <html> line, but only the codes inside the <html> tag, how can I get all ?

Here is my code for looking up a city, and state by zip code. I am getting no errors and I believe it should work, but the code does not seem to want to function. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]"> <html xmlns="[URL]"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>City and State Lookup</title> <style type="text/css"> .....
I'm new to jQuery. The little project I am working on is setting up a web form such that when the user enters their zip code (US only), a call is made to a php function which returns the appropriate City and State data. The one spot I am having difficulty with is in retrieving this data from the php file. I have read and reread the pages in the jQuery manual about .get, .post, .ajax, etc. and I am somewhat at a loss as to how to go about picking up the data that the php script generates.
I saw this code at [URL] and wanted to expand on it by adding a Zip Code field. The problem is it doesn't want to work for me and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My source code is below.
I use sprites for rollover effects so the hover attribute just changes the background image position. Everything works cool with the rollovers. What I would like to do, is make a text link that when rolled over will change a separate background image to it's hover state. I should add, that the the rollover image has it's own div and is separate from where the text link is located. To get a visual you can check the website [URL] In the body section I would like to make each of the dark red section titles a link that when rolled over will change the hover state of the corresponding "more" button.
i have been tasked to create a web page that includes a fading background. (It must become semi transparent once the page has loaded, and remain until a new page is selected. I want to use a similar concept to: [URL]. However instead of fading out to black, i need it to fade out to white (between 10-15% image opacity). I would also need a similar central, transparent, scrollable frame/div (where each page will load up within and like the above link,i need a different background image to each page.

I am new to jquery and I need to make a form that allows a user to select a state and a city that they go to school in. I am using the cascade juqery plug-in [url].
Which I think is a great plugin) The problem is there is a lot of data and it takes a long time for it all to load (some 28,000 records).
What I want to do is split it up into different files and then load only the file that contains the data for that start/region.
I have an Accordion working. To advance from section to section, I want to use both click on the Accordion bar or click a button in the section. This works so long as it is a straight pass through. (section=section+1). If the user goes back, out of sequence, to change a field in a prior section, things 'get out of whack'. I need some way to have a variable in the HTML (that does not show to the user) that identifies the Accordion section and pass it to the Accordion activate method. I currently have this in the HTML of each Accordion section.
To say I'm new to JavaScript is a bit of an understatement so bear with me. I have a site set up with a variety of layers of toggles. When you enter the site all of the items are collapsed and you click the headings to expand. Each of the toggle-able items have ids. It works great for users who start at the homepage.
However, when I send people to any of the inner topics, all they see is the initial collapsed state of the site. I want to be able to provide a URL that will set the toggle to open, and show all of the content for that section on entry.
Here is my code and js, can anyone point me in the right direction?
I am trying to make a gui for clients to edit a php page that displays html and javascript.
I want the user to be able to move html elements around and even edit it like add effects like fade in and out etc.
Then after all the changes I want to overwrite the existing php file that does this for that user. how can you make such changes and then save it to a file?
It's an html / javascript editor but using a gui instead of allowing them to directly touch the code. It would be a security risk if I allow such a thing. So I need to program a interface that would make such changes and save them to file.
Like how can you delete and add new javascript code to the file?
